I can watch dvds and videos (avi, mpg, etc) with mplayer with no problem (indicating to me that the video drivers are working properly). However, any "online" videos (....., etc) are CRAZY choppy. Probably about 1 fps. It is like this with both chrome and firefox.

When my machine ran Windows XP, I was able to watch full screen videos on Hulu, etc. with no problem. Now my machine is running Ubuntu (Koala). I'm using Firefox with the most recent Adobe Plugin (and I've made sure there are no other flash players installed). Streaming video (at low to medium resolution) is pretty choppy but still watchable most of the time. It is not watchable when played full screen or with high resolution. When I download the .flv file and play it through VLC, everything is smooth. Are there any tricks I can try to get the video running more smoothly, like it did before? (Disabling desktop effects made no difference.) Should I just get some more RAM? (I realize my RAM is low, but it didn't seem to effect my video watching before.)
I have a ton of .avi files. Ever since my last ubuntu online update, they can't play at full screen even though they played fine last week. I tried reinstalling mplayer. No difference. Same problem with xine.
They freeze for about 1/2 second at at time and chop their way along. Not even viewable. But, they look fine in mini-mode.
I have 4 gb ddr3, a quad core, 2.83 gzh intel and an ati 4850 / 512 mb video card. CPU on gkrellm shows < 10%. I think I still have the proprietary ati drivers because I can still move my applications around the screen instantaneously. I have tried xv, gl and gl2 under mplayer -> prefs -> video. All are the same.
Everything works perfectly if I reboot to xp. Where does one begin to debug this?
Running ubuntu 9.10 on an hp pavilion 2000 laptop, with 2.5GB of ram and a dual core (i think). Works at perfect speed with everything, except when I'm tyring to watch a flash video which slows everything down and gets choppy, especially when in full screen. From looking around online I see some people blaming adobe and some people blaming NVidia drivers. Get the impression the problem is a bit of both.
Funny thing is it worked a lot better with the drivers that installed automatically with the ubuntu install, soon as I put the updated nvidia drivers on it started screwing up. how I go back to those default drivers? Tried unchecking the drivers listed in Hardware Drivers, but when I restarted was stuck in very low resolution, so I'm guessing that's not the same as the drivers used after installing the OS.
I am running ubuntu on my netbook and use vlc media player, for some reason when I play 720p videos they get choppy and freeze constantly, is there a way around this or the videocard that comes with the netbook is having problems supporting it ?

I have a Dell Mini 10v running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 (with latest flash), and everything is fine with it, except for online videos. Whenever I try to watch one, CPU usage gets around 100% and the videos start lagging.

a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.
how to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.

I just installed Fedora 11 on my PC and can't seem to get the Win key to work at all I tried putting entries in xmodmap, tried modifying xorg.conf, and also tried setting altwin:super_win in the config settings. But nothing seems to work. Somehow, my Win key seems to be working as Meta instead of Super. From emacs, if I press Win+x, it works like Meta+x.

I restarted the laptop since, I had a big Red buton that asked for it. After reboot tried listening to my music and the same result choppy audio. Tried rebooting again, same thing. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just wiped my hp 6730b laptop after having done something that killed my previous fedora 14 install but now the graphics are all choppy. The previous install was a 12 to 14 upgrade that ran fine after only minor tinkering to straighten out some leftover stuff. The new one is a net-install of the 64bit version. But now X is all choppy and 2 processes seem to be using some cpu when X starts up: 'kondemand' and 'migration'. Eventually the screen will start to flicker but it'll keep running 'normally'. I am guessing that it is somehow related to the intel driver seeing how 3d (compiz) is not working either. So far all I changed is the default runlevel to 3 but it makes no difference if its in 5. I tried making a new config with X -config but then X does not start at all. system-config-display has been removed so I cant try fiddling with that either.
Hopefully all the required / useful info:

i've tried flash in chrome, firefox, and opera and every video site i try is so chopppy its unwatchable. videos and vimeo work if i run it in html5 but many sites don't offer that.

I have a very stupid case, I have to use a domain user to install one software in RHL4.8, but this software need a super-user permission but not root.
So I need a domain user who has super-user permission.
Not use su, sudo.
If I use su or sudo ,the software will be installed under root. The requirement is the software must be installed under a domain user.
How can I do?
I installed VLC on F11 and it worked but after i updated F11, the video was smooth but the audio from VLC seems to have screwed up. I went to ..... and tried some vids, nothing's wrong and F11 still plays the usual system sounds. I have deleted and reinstalled VLC but to no avail. Unforunately, i did not know what i updated as there were just too many updates and i just acepted them all, maybe i shld not do that next time
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing sound problems after an upgrade to kernel 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.PAE from kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i686.PAE in several games like Neverwinter Nights (linux binaries) and Warcraft III (PlayOnLinux). The sound stops and changes into a very choppy annoying sound. When I boot into the old kernel the problems are gone.

However, I don't want a program that automatically changes performnce modes each time I go to AC or battery power (Jupiter). Jupiter also causes lag when I suspend the EEEPC pr when I plug in the AC adapter. I pretty often work on battery when I'm at home and I don't need powersavings then. I want a way to be able to turn on the power saving mode (I've heart it does more then just undercloaking the processor) whenever I want, but I don't want those modes to be changed automatically.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI cloned F14 with Clonezilla from 80GB to 320GB hdd(both sata disks), and then resized the partitions with GParted.But I can not boot into fedora on the new/bigger disk, it stops and the display writes "Loading stage 1.5" if I remember corectly,I tried to fix it with the live cd but with no efect.
Then i found Super Grub Disk live CD, and with that i tried to use their fix, which was the same as with the Fedora live cd i tried before, again no efect.Then i played around with Super Grub, and found the option to boot GNU/Linux indirectly, and with that metod i got results, found my menu.lst file and chose the kernel i wanted and it boots into desktop.
But i would need a more permanent solution, because now i allways have to use the same procedure with Super Grub Disk CD to boot into my Fedora 14.
I have installed a new TV Tuner Card. AverTV Super 009 TV Tuner Card from Avermedia. I am using Fedora 14. How can I make the above card work for me? (I am not proficient in Linux.)
