I have a Dell Mini 10v running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 (with latest flash), and everything is fine with it, except for online videos. Whenever I try to watch one, CPU usage gets around 100% and the videos start lagging.

Last but not least, I was wondering if there were any workarounds for watching Netflix videos or shows on sites like ABC/NBC/Fox etc. I'm really trying to stick with Ubuntu but this is one of the really annoying things along with the growing list of applications i can't run I'm trying to get used to Ubuntu as a way to get out of buying a copy of Windows so I'm not really interested in solutions that involve dual booting because if I'm going to have to buy a copy of 7, I'm just going to format the laptop.
I recently got a Canon Powershot SD780 IS. It takes HD video at 780p. It's great, except that the videos won't display properly in Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Dell Mini 10v.I've tried using Gstreamer (Banshee), Xine (Totem-xine), and MPlayer (GNOME MPlayer). These all should have worked, which makes me think something may be wrong either with the files themselves or my computer. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?FYI, when I pull up the Properties dialogue for one of the videos and look in the Audio/Video tab, it says:

it usually happens when i use firefox (does not happen with other browsers like opera or chrome) to visit, for example, videos. where it should be pitch black, screwed up parts of the video or another multimedia program (such as second life) show up. it has happened on white colors as well. here are some shots. i did not take them using print screen since, strangely, print screen does not seem to capture this glitch. i am using ubuntu 10.10 on a 1 gb nvidia 9500gt.

And also my browser cannot open login page of yahoo site and some time it waits saying waiting for s7.addthis.com, or waiting for ad.yieldmanager.com like some thing when i am trying to open some sites
Online videos (..... for example) is not running ok. It doesn't run in a constant way. I pauses as if my PC was from the 1960s. It happens in Opera and Firefox as well.

View 9 Replies View Relatedrunning kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 i have flash player working for videos online,but having problem loading veetle TV, can someone text me though the best way to do this,i have file downloaded to desk top just trying to get it on Ubuntu to work!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can watch dvds and videos (avi, mpg, etc) with mplayer with no problem (indicating to me that the video drivers are working properly). However, any "online" videos (....., etc) are CRAZY choppy. Probably about 1 fps. It is like this with both chrome and firefox.

Well I couldnt find another torrent of it, so I went ahead and downloaded it. The audio is off by like .1-.3 seconds. How can I fix this in VLC? I have V 2.28.1.I went through the repositories and redownloaded VLC, but I cant even get the advanced options open. Ive been using Ubuntu for a few months now. I remember when I had windows I could go into the advanced options and manually change the timing for the audio, but like I said, I cant even get into the advanced options on this one.

When I connect my lcd monitor to the vga port the system lags. If I listen to music and browse web pages at the same time, the sound skip and when the page stop loading, music is ok. Also, the mouse skip. If I do circle with it on the desktop without doing anything else, it will skip.
The strange thing if I remove the external monitor and reboot the system everything comes back to normal.
I had Intrepid Ibex for 2 years without any problems. I remember a post saying that powernowd should be disable, but can't find the process from the startup list anymore.
since installing 11.04 on a computer that was running 10.04 perfectly, the system hangs for a split second every 10 seconds or so. If you make little circles with the mouse pointer you will see it jump position when the computer hangs briefly. If you are listening to audio or watching video then this also hangs for the same very short length of time.
I had the exact same problem when I tired going to 10.10 and so had to go back to 10.04. I was hoping it may just be an issue with that version but it seems not. The computer is: 1.6GHz Intel Core Solo, 1GB Memory, the motherboard is a Jetway Mini ITX board with integrated Intel graphics. It has no problem running the 3D stuff in Unity (or any of the old gnome desktops). Changing to 2D or turning off desktop effects in 10.10 does nothing to solve the problem. 10.04 seems to be the last time Ubuntu worked properly with the computer.
My internet keeps keeps lagging. Sometimes it's good but most of the other time it lags. I am using Broadcom BCM4306 wireless drivers. My signal is always atleast 80% or higher.

The mouse becomes unresponsive during this time, *everything* freezes for a moment.I've put 'top' on with an interval of .1, and there isn't a particular program hitting the top of this list when it happens.

When typing (such as now) the cursor will disappear and no letters will appear for a second or I get doubling letters. Example: the word "laptop" will come out as "laaptoppp". When I hover the cursor over a link it will sometimes not highlight it right away. When I scroll up or down in Fire Fox or in my folders the screen will move a little, freeze, and then shoot down (or up) very quickly. Often Ctrl-c simply won't work. Plus several other things that all add up to being very frustrating.
I have the system monitor applet on a panel and I've noticed my CPU spiking periodically to 100%. When it happens it's rythmic, like this: A....A....A....A....A.... and then stops after a while. I've watched the processes and I'm fairly sure it's xorg doing it. My wife complained to me about her desktop doing similar things about a day before I saw that my laptop is doing this. I am fairly computer literate (no expert but no novice either) and I am totally stumped. Back in my Windows days (long, long ago in a...etc. etc.) I'd have said virus but here? Not so sure.

For some platforms, the latest version 16.02 is available under jessie-backports, but for armhf, it is not: in the table at the bottom of <https://packages.debian.org/jessie-backports/ejabberd>, next to armhf is the version 16.01 listed in red, instead of 16.02 in green as for amd64 etc. What do these colours mean, and why the difference in versions? Will 16.02 become available for armhf as well in the (near) future, or is this an indication of a more serious problem?
Jessie's older version 14.07 does not offer the features I need, and 16.01 does not run at all; hence my hopes are pinned on 16.02.
I have 2 dedicated servers, one with RTL8111/8168B (rev 02) and one with RTL8111/8168B (rev 01) both running centos 5.3, the problem is like this, all things run great on the dedicated server with NIC RTL8111/8168B (rev 02) until we run backup (cpanel backup) after the backup is finish the server lags , no high load, just lags, the server is a 8 GB ram, i7 quad core, so there is no load problem or someting like this, the second server has also cpanel on it and it has no lag but it has RTL8111/8168B (rev 01) , we think that the problem is with the RTL8111/8168B (rev 02) should we update the driver ?

I'm a new netbook owner considering installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Is it possible for me to download it to a usb drive and test it out with out installing it (similar to what can be done through the CD drive on desktops/laptops)? I'm worried about not being able to fully get into swing with Ubuntu fast enough to get my schoolwork done, so I'm wondering if I can try it before I actually install it. If I do install it and don't like it, can I revert easily back to windows?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just coming back to Ubuntu after last seeing a GNOME desktop almost a year ago now. Just installed the new 10.04 version on my EEE 1000h with little to no problems. However, since then I've been kinda lost. Is it just me, or has Ubuntu been changed substantially over the last two distributions?
1) How do I change the netbook remix desktop mode? I like the left menu design, however I like the traditional desktop even more. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the desktop mode switcher anywhere.
2) Where is the grub menu.lst found? Looked in the /boot/grub/ folder and it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
3) Where's my multi touch? Do I have to install a package or configure a setting somewhere? With Jaunty it was a simple install and play. This time it doesn't seem that way at all.
I have this mac mini laying around. It runs leopard fairly okay. I was wondering if it would be able to run Ubuntu netbook remix. I figure it would run fine, I'm not exactly sure though. I just want to get it running so my brother has a computer to use.
