I was trying to install Kamosa (a KDE Webcam App) from
Code:
https://projects.kde.org/projects/pl...a/kamosoKamaso
but it requires QtGstreamer (bindings to Gstreamer with a more Qt-ish syntax) from
Code:
freedesktop.org]freedesktop.org git repository browser
I am stuck trying to build QtGstreamer and get this message:
Code:
CMake Error: The following variables are used in this project, but they are set to NOTFOUND.
Please set them or make sure they are set and tested correctly in the CMake files:

I have two hard drives in my laptop, they are NOT raid configured. I installed 32-bit Ubuntu on the second HD, third partition: Sdb3. I then installed 64-bit Windows 7 on the same hard drive, first partition: Sdb1 (Sdb2 is formatted NTFSd willusedasstorage).Windows installed fine. Then I installed Windows in 32-bit on the first hard drive, first partion: Sda1. Sda2 will again be used as storage. When I boot up, Windows boot manager gives me the option of the two windows OS's to install (but not Ubuntu of course).I wanted to boot into the Live CD, where I would reinstall grub, assuming it would recognize my two Windows, and I could boot into any of the three OS's upon start-up.The Ubuntu Live CD, will act as though it is going to boot, bringing me up to the loading screen, then it cuts out to "busy box" and I am not sure what to do. Buys box is almost like a command prompt, but I don't understand the commands.

Im sure that this issue is pretty old and you get some results from forums when you google it, but I cant seem to find the solution : When I boot my system ( its duel boot , win7 / Slackware 13.1 ) the message : L 99 99 99 pops up. I know this has to do with the MBR, When I looked online this is what people were told to do:

I switched over from Ubuntu because I realized Ubuntu sucks now (lol), but anyways... Now I'm trying to get Grub2 to boot up properly, but this "xputs" error pops up and drops me to the recovery prompt. I tried the grub-install dev/sda and all it did was recognize my Windows 7 OS (as Vista) and added it to the bootloader list and didn't fix the "xputs" issue.
I heard that doing a chroot is the most effective solution. Forgive me, but I don't know what "chroot" means or how effective it is. I can specify more information about where the OS is if needed. I have the boot flag set to the Debian OS at the hd(0,5) or sda5 I think, and Windows is at sda1 (I think). I just want to make sure I can fix this without damaging Windows, and I'll try to get more information.
Right now, I can only get into Windows or Debian with UBCD and Grub2 Super Disk and I know that sometimes Parted Magic could orderly mount the disks differently, so I don't know if it was sdaX or sdbX, but probably sdaX. I'll check again.

The following are the commands:

Then modify the first command I gave you to read:

All other commands should work:

At the end, you should also run the following commands:
Code:
And here is the terminal readout from the first few commands:

Am I right that at this point I should issue the " -f " command or should I issue the -f at the end of the last command?

I just started learning how to manipulate Linux (Debian Lenny) about a month ago with the intention of ditching Windows eventually and learning to configure serversn the process. But, I still need Windows for certain things. I downloaded and installed VirtualBox (I know, VMWare is better, but I didn't know that at the time and don't want to go through the process all over again) and got Windows XP working with a tap interface and bridge interface to get the guest OS to talk to the home OS and connect to the Internet.
My only problem is that the tap interface and bridge interface disappear when I reboot and then I have to issue the commands to set them up all over again. I know there is a way to write a script to run on boot to create them and bring them up, but my whole technical career has been with CLI-based stuff, not scripting. I'd like to eventually learn it, but I'm a learn-by-doing type. Basically I need the following commandsto be implemented at startup:
sudo tunctl -t tap1 -u allen
sudo brctl addbr br0
sudo ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 promisc
[code]...

I have a server in which I'm trying to install Debian into. There's no BIOS, only EFI boot. The vendor locked it down so there's no way to see it or get into it.
The Wheezy 7.8 netinst CD has EFI boot parameters and works on everything I throw it in, except this one server. Booting it up, the code doesn't see the EFI and boots into normal mode, negating every chance to install it (dozens upon dozens of failed installs).
During boot, I press the [TAB] at the Debian Linux installer menu and get the load parameters (/install.amd/vmlinuz vga=788 etc). What parameter can I add to this line to get it to run in UEFI mode so we can install it?

I want to turn off CPU throttling, and I notice how each time opensuse boots up, it imposes it.
I would like to know where it does this. I suspect - but actually I don't really know - if it's the HAL daemon that does this. Could be.
In any case, rather than have to key it in each time, I put the relevant commands (cpufreq-set) in boot.local. No effect.
I suspect boot.local might not be the best place for such a heavy duty command like this one.
Are there any there places I could put it so that it executes automatically?

I downloaded rhel 5.5 CD 1 iso to my PC, and used it as a virtual CD-ROM to kickstart HP DL380 G4.Here is my questions:
1. how can I cut and paste boot commands (very long strings) from my PC to iLO remote console?
2. is there anyway I can get "boot prompt" by ssh to iLo's IP?
3. after kickstart, I want to eject the virtual CD-ROM / media, I have tried the following method in the kickstart profile, but all failed, after reboot, it still boot from the virtual CD-ROM. So how can I reject the virtual CD-ROM for rhel 5.5 kickstart?

Before this said screen pops up I have the ability to move the cursor around freely, and if I mash the life out of enter I can get it to select my username, but freezes before the password entry bar has the chance to come up under it.

I finally got it and windows 7 installed on separate hard drives. Windows installed first, then ubuntu 10.04.01. Had to use the alternate ubuntu install cd to make it work. During the install it said there were no other operating systems installed on the computer and asked if grub could overwrite the master boor record. I knew this was something I wanted to do and if it was wrong it could most likely be fixed later. So that being said, ubuntu has taken over the boot of my pc. No grub menu pops up. Not sure how to add windows to grub to make it give me a choice. I did try pressing shift during startup to get grub to load, and nothing happened.
Here is my fdisk.
Windows is on sda and ubuntu is on sdb.

I am running F12 on a lenovo X61. 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) If my machine is quiet for a while, then suddenly needs to make a noise (eg some sort of notification event), the audio "pops" when the first sound is made. It sounds like the noise you hear in the speakers when the audio cable is connected to a live jack while the speakers are on. A static POP.
Once that initial pop is over, the audio sounds exactly like I expect it to.Then, if there is no sound for a period of about 10 seconds, I can hear the audio pop again. If I then play a sound, I will hear the initial static pop again. It's as if pulseaudio is powering up my audio system when it needs it, then powers it down when it doesn't need it any more. And, in fact, I found that something is going in in the kernel. If I look at lsmod, I can see things changing.I did an lsmod with the sound "on", then waited for it to pop off, then did it again and noticed these diffs:
< snd_hda_intel 25080 3
---
> snd_hda_intel 25080 2
34c34
[code].....
Now I also have F12 running on a desktop machine that uses an nVidia chipset. I have no audio pops on that system. I noticed that there are similar changes in lsmod on that system, though.

I didn't change anything; it just stopped working on boot. I've changed permissions according to messages from log files. No good.I now get messages saying "unable to open display ' '." If I set the display (I've done this several ways, the messages say "unable to open display ':0'."
Systemd is taking control of everything basic, with almost no documentation and no configuration tools at all: rationalization by lunatics. You can make a script to run commands on boot using systemd on Jessie by creating two files: the script, in any location a file in /etc/systemd/system that runs that script..My script is called james-boot.service, placed in my /home/james/.bin directory.
#! /bin/sh
# this is run by /etc/systemd/system/james-boot.service
# Enable with sudo systemctl enable james-boot.service
# Check with sudo systemctl status james-boot.service
# If it says the service is loaded, it's OK -- inactive only means it's done running.
[code]....
This file must have ownership root.root, with (apparently) permissions 664 (rw-rw-r--).After creating, enable with sudo systemctl enable james-boot. service.Check with sudo systemctl status james-boot.service. If it says the service is loaded, it's OK -- "inactive" only means it's done running.

I am fairly used to Ubuntu, and i decided to try and change my login background (10.10) using the code:
sudo cp /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow,
and:
sudo unlink /usr/share/gdm/autostart/loginwindow/gdm-simple-greeter.desktop
i later realized what i did and i tried to unlink the gnome-appearance-properties.desktop but no luck.
is there any way to stop the appearance properties from popping up at login, and to reinstall the gdm-simple-greeter.desktop ?
