My wife was using cryptkeeper fine, then she right-clicked the keys on the panel and did something, I'm not sure what. Anyway, the keys you click on to open the encrypted folder are gone and I can't figure out how to get them back. System monitor shows cryptkeeper running. I can kill it and re-start it, but the keys don't show on the panel. I'm running ubuntu 9.10.

Fedora :: 11 With Monitor - System - Preferences - Display Shows Unknown Monitor

Oct 16, 2009

I am facing problem with the fresh installation of Fedora 11. (I have moved from Fedora 9). When I try to view videos on ..... or use the Cheese Webcam Booth, I get blurred lines on the screen and I am unable to see any video or pic.

Also I noticed that the when i go to System > Preferences>Display, it shows me UNKOWN MONIOR.

However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.

I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.

I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.

My Monitor is LG 700E and Graphics card is from intel. as I am not able watch any video.

Red Hat :: Running IPmonitor To Monitor The Disk Usage On Our Servers - Running Df -h

Mar 19, 2010

We are running IPmonitor to monitor the disk usage on our Linux servers. It does not seem to coincide with what is reported when running df -h. For example on a Red Hat 5.3 server - our IPmonitor shows that 85% is used on the /usr partition, however when I do a df -h on the server it shows that 91% is used. Why there would be a discrepancy? IPmonitor uses SNMP.

Ubuntu Installation :: 2ond Monitor Does Not Detect - Shows Out Or Range

Feb 15, 2011

My brother got a new 120hz monitor, but can only get the old one to work. If he boots up with both of them connected in windows xp they work fine, but in Ubuntu 10 only the old one works. If he tries to detect the monitor in Display Preferences, nothing happens. The old monitor is connected to vga output (lcd with vga only) the new monitor is connected to dvi with a dual-link dvi cable. We know the graphics cards cannot provide 120hz, for now we run the monitor at 60hz until he upgrades the rest of the pc (sandy bridge i guess). The 120hz monitor worked fine until he changed graphics card from a ATI radeon 9200 to a geforce 3 ti 500.

He has tried

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and detect monitor in Display Preferences but no dice. Could he try restricted drivers?

System specs:

Ubuntu 10.04 32bit
athlon xp 1700mhz
1GB ram
ati radeon 9200
geforce 3 ti 500
lg w2363d

Debian Hardware :: Monitor Shows Nonsensical Clutter After Install?

Mar 22, 2011

In the past few months I've tried to upgrade from an old version of debian-based AVLinux to straight debian, modern kubuntu, ubuntu, and the latest AVLinux. In each case I get a distorted display that renders the computer useless, and I have had no luck figuring this out since I can't even log in. I don't have the trouble with older (k)ubuntu or AVlinux, or debian (few years ago, not sure version tried last).

Monitor is ASUS MS246H (widescreen 1920x1080 LCD)

MB/Video is ABIT NF-M2 nView AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150

I've tried both VGA and HDMI cables with the same results.

At this point I have to upgrade, having messed up my old install too much when trying to recover from a power outage this AM.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 'Configure Display Settings' Icon Shows Monitor As 'Unknown'

Feb 16, 2010

I've just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on a new machine. Because I was still using another machine as my main box while building the new one, the monitor attached when it was installed has a resolution of 1280x1024 @ 77Hz. I've now moved it to be my main machine and the monitor is a widescreen 1680x1050 @ 60Hz model. When I boot it normally the screen fails to come up - even GDM doesn't show. If I boot in failsafe mode the system comes up fine, but in 1280x1024 mode. The 'Configure display settings' icon shows the monitor as 'Unknown'. Couple of things I tried:

1) Switched to runlevel 2 and logged in as root. Ran Xorg -configure and looked at the xorg.conf.new that was installed, but it just had generic info for the monitor:

[code]....

2) While still in runlevel 2 and logged in as root I did a startx. This brought up the X display in 1680x1050 ok, and clicking on the 'Configure display settings' icon showed it had correctly identified my monitor and had set the size and frequency correctly.

3) Given the results of (2), I then tried logging in as myself in runlevel 2, did startx again, but this time the display failed to come up again.

Fedora :: Running Update Shows Some Messages?

Dec 7, 2009

When I did update a few minutes back, it showed me the following messages

Quote:

/boot/initramfs-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE.img: contents have been changed
/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686.PAE/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko: No such file or directory

[code]...

I've not changed contents of any of these. Then why does it show me this messages? I did install akmod for my Nvidia graphics card for which I followed the steps mentioned for nouveau.

In between tries I downloaded some 600 MB .iso files (about 10 minutes each) so I know my internet is working properly. Fedora :: Printer Queue Shows Stopped Status For Job Running F14

Jun 15, 2011

My elderly HP Laserjet 4P has worked well for over 15 years. I have it connected to the home network via a Trendnet TE100-P21 Print Server, and setup has always been straightforward and easy. The whole setup has worked quite well with Fedora 9 or 10 thru 14, but then stopped working within the last couple of weeks. I'm assuming an update broke something, as I can find no other reason. When I send a print job or test page, I get a Print Error dialog. The print que shows a "stopped" status for the job. In the Error dialog I use the Diagnose button and step through until I get the Status Messages dialog, which informs me: "The printer's state message is: 'Data file sent successfully'".

Then I enable debugging and send a test page. Stepping through the dialogs it tells me it cannot detect a problem, and gives me an error log, which I've attached. The Trendnet server has a web admin interface. In that interface I can send a test page successfully. Also, I can open a VirtualBox (Windows XP) in Fedora 14, and successfully print from it. My print setup in Fedora is the same as it has been for several years now, and nothing has changed on that end. I have rebooted Fedora and the Trendnet server. All other computers/OS's on the network have no problem printing, only this Fedora 14, and only recently.

OpenSUSE :: Dual Monitor - Nvidia Driver With X Screen - Shows A Black Screen

Feb 5, 2011

I have openSUSE 11.3 with an nvidia card connected with two monitors. In the past I used xinerama which was ok, but now I need to have two separate desktops, one on each screen. I set the nvidia driver with x screen, and now one screen works perfect and the other only shows a black screen. When I move the mouse over the black screen, the mouse pointer turns into an X, but moves correctly, which seems to me that the problem is that I need to set the second desktop to that screen. I looked on forums on how to do so, and no luck.

Ubuntu :: 9.04 - Running Second Monitor In Own X Screen

May 8, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 (almost ready to upgrade to 10.04) with a geforce 8800 and as of a few days ago an additional monitor (of a different rez, natch). What I'm trying to do is run the second monitor in it's own X screen. It seems to function; I can run the mouse seamlessly off one screen to another and I can move files from one screen to another and back. The problem is that all I can see on the second monitor is the mouse cursor.

It appears that compiz is running cube fine, as far as watching the cursor disappear momentarily as I roll desktops. It flashes active several times while getting the desktop together on boot (this is particularly mean-spirited IMHO) then goes black. I can even see files I've dropped there when it's flashing me. It's there, I swear it, and X server is running screen 0 flawlessly. How can I turn the light on in X server screen 1?

Ubuntu :: Process Name Of Running Script Shows As Just "sh"

May 18, 2010

Under 9.10 I did the following: Added a custom application launcher to the panel which executes a script with the following command.

Code:

sh ~/Scripts/nvidia_freq.sh

The script contains the following code.

Code:

#!/bin/bash
while true; do
if on_ac_power; then

[code]...

This keeps my nvidia card at maximum speed. (this is pretty commonly known and used). Then to let the card go back to adaptive clocking I had another panel launcher which simply killed the associated process with the following command.

Code:

killall nvidia_freq.sh

and all worked as advertised. Under 10.04 it almost works except that I am unable to kill the process because its name is now listed as simply "sh" whether I use system-monitor, top, or ps to view it. And I can't "killall sh" because it is not the only process showing with that name. The only discernable difference between them is the PID # of the process, which my panel launcher icon has no way of knowing about.why the difference in behavior between Karmic and Lucid?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Connect An External Monitor To Laptop Running 10.04?

May 13, 2010

I've been unable to connect an external monitor to my laptop running 10.04, even though the resolution and framerate are right. The monitor says something like "unsupported video settings".

In other news, I put the live cd into another computer which relies on a monitor and after the very first screen with the two logos at the bottom, the monitor decides to go to sleep. I try with another monitor and it just seems to have to feed. This is the more important problem, but I wonder if there isn't some built-in problem with 10.04.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Laptop Monitor Running With 61hz Instead Of 60hz When Activating KMS?

Jul 4, 2010

today i was trying to activate KMS by adding:

Code:
radeon.modeset=1
to grub.

it worked fine, and fixed the black-box bug in cairo-dock, and i finally had a nice graphic bootscreen again.

but another bug occured: im running dual-screen setup, my notebook is connected via vga to a dell 22 inch widescreen TFT.

by default both screens running with 60hz and no problem.

now, after activating KMS it happend that, while the dell monitor still ran 60hz, the notebook screen was running with 61hz! it was shown in the monitor-options.
the notebook monitor was therefore flickering a bit for 5 seconds, than running fine for another few seconds. then flickering again. (obviously, as 61hz is too much when it should run with 60hz!)

so my question is: how can i activate KMS again and have both of my screens running with 60hz again? is there an option?
