I need to find a solution where I can monitor multiple sites at once and know when they go down. There are fraudulent sites (not mine I am in the infosec industry)
I have been playing with Nagios and Zabbix all day with not much luck. I have managed to get both installed and running and researched for hours. I just need to figure out how to add domain names to be monitored and I am stuck. I know you have to do it in the conf files but I cannot get a domain to show up?

I have Fedora Linux 13 64bit system. I use System Monitor to check which process is taking how much memory and cpu. Normally I have dozens of Chrome and Firefox windows open. The Processes tab shows which process is taking how much cpu/ram resources but I unfortunately there is no option like right click and make the window active that matches the PID (the one process that I have currently highlighted). Usually there is a chrome process taking up 30 or 40 percent of CPU while dozens other chrome processes taking much less cpu. I must determine which chrome window ( or any application which has multiple instances running) is taking that much CPU time.View 1 Replies View Related

I have a game server running using java, and it tends to crash sometimes, and only way to start it now is manually, so i thought i could create a script to check periodically if java is running, and if it isn't, run my startup script for the game server also, if it's possible it should log when it actually started the server startup script into a text file or something, so i can check why it crashed.View 6 Replies View Related

In short our required is that we are creating a share library which can be loaded by a process and that share library analysis the process which load it. Since share library is in address space of the process so I need to find out how many threads created by the process and what is status of their stack trace etc.
So I am looking for a way to get list of threads in running process.

I'd like to start a background job using the sudo command and route its output to a file. This presents a problem because the prompt for the password doesn't work properly. It looks something like this when I try it:
Mac:server user$ sudo php crossdomain_server.php > data/crosscomain_output.txt &
Mac:server user$ Password:
+ Stopped sudo php crossdomain_server.php > data/crosscomain_output.txt
Basically I'm not properly prompted for the password and as soon as I type anything in my background job fails because it didn't receive the password. Is there any way to execute a sudo command by supplying the password on the same line as the command?

Sometimes I connect to my Debian box from another computer (using SSH on Cygwin or Linux), and once ina while I want to run some console apps. And sometimes some of these apps might complain about "another intance, Error: an instance of newsbeuter is already running (PID: 2496)". Is there a work around for this issue at all(without killing the original instance") ? The reason I do not want to kill the app because there might be 2 users connected to the same machine that might be using the same app.View 1 Replies View Related

i have a red hat enterprise linux running in my server. my default login is init 3 (without GUI). However, everytime when i run #startx to start the gui the memory usage shoot up to almost 95%, and when i logout from the gui it will still remain high at 80%.
Previously i have checked, if reboot my pc in init 3 it only consume 10% of the memory usage.what's the command that i can use to check the memory usage for each of the running process/application so that i can kill the process.
I wonder how one can, if at all, run an X program in the background *in an emulator sub-shell process*. What I mean is to launch a program in an emulator, e.g, by xterm -e gedit
but with gedit (in this example) running in the background from inside the xterm sub-process, so that the xterm will accept other commands. In the above, gedit will run in the foreground, and of course, if you do
xterm -e gedit &
then xterm will run in the background, not gedit. In short, I would like to achieve the same thing as "gedit &" as you manually do in xterm, but from another shell. What I aim to do is write an X init script to achieve this result (to have the emulator open and a program or two running from it, in the background, at the X startup).

We have zabbix Network monitoring tool installed on two servers 172.17.11.6 ( Master ) and 172.17.11.3 ( Slave ) RHEL 5.4 Servers with 172.17.11.4 being Virtual Ipaddress. We are trying to implement High Availability with Red Hat Cluster Suite.OS level Clustering has been implemented with following cluster configuraiton.
But we need to implement Application level clustering for Zabbix_server process which inturn depends on httpd and mysqld deamons to be running. So I have to check the health of mysqld and httpd with a shell script along with the health of zabbix_server process.Any good tutorials for this ? Any guidlines that I have to follow ?Here I may need to take care of following things when any one of the process goes down
1. Shifhting Virtual IP
2. Shifting /dev/sdb1 ( Shared drive to slave )
3. stopping other services on master
4. starting all the services on slave

I am currently struggling with one of my tasks.I was asked to find a way how to determine how much time an _already running_ process is spending in user and kernel space.E.G. <some tool> <pid>[Control] + [c]<pid> spent 12.1 seconds in user and 1.52 seconds in kernel space.Does something like this exist? Basically I guess I am looking for something similar to time, except that the process is already running.So..a) Is there a tool which fulfills this task?b) Is there a way to write your own software which does the job? Is it even possible to code something I am looking for?I recently found strace -c -p <pid>, but well, this is not exactly what I was looking for.View 3 Replies View Related
