Red Hat :: Running IPmonitor To Monitor The Disk Usage On Our Servers - Running Df -h
Mar 19, 2010
We are running IPmonitor to monitor the disk usage on our Linux servers. It does not seem to coincide with what is reported when running df -h. For example on a Red Hat 5.3 server - our IPmonitor shows that 85% is used on the /usr partition, however when I do a df -h on the server it shows that 91% is used. Why there would be a discrepancy? IPmonitor uses SNMP.
im looking for a program that lets me monitor server remote a check if apache is running and if its not send out a mail pretty much something like the Big Brother projeckt was before they went comercial i found a few projekts but most havent been updated for years anyone got a clue on any active projekt that does this?
As the thread states, I wonder why my RAM usage is about 56% without any application running. It turns to 58% while opening Firefox (with only one Tab/Page opened) and typing this post. Is there something wrong?
I am facing an issue with 100% CPU usage under my system when running VirtualBox. Here are some further details:
My System Information:
CPU 1 name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz CPU 1 level 1 cache size: 32K Data cache. 32K Instruction cache. CPU 1 level 2 cache size: 1024K Unified cache. CPU 1 Mips: 2926.20
[Code].....
Well, each time I run Windows XP from my VirtualBox, I see the CPU usage at almost 100%. I experience a slow system even if no programs were running on my hosted Windows XP version.
I was wondering if there is a way for me to play with the settings so I can slightly enhance the performance. My PC is relatively fast under my Linux operating system. I need to know if there are some tips that I may follow when configuring the settings of my VirtualBox so i can achieve better results.
For some reason after I close firefox , firefox-bin keeps running and it eats more cpu than when firefox was open, a lot more. Same thing with seamonkey, seamonkey-bin keeps running after it is closed. Attached are two pictures , 1) While firefox is running: notice the low CPU usage 2) Firefox closed, CPU is almost 50%
I am running Apache 2.2.3 on a CentOS release 5.3 (Final) with 100 Sites. I've notice that Apache is making my server Swap around 200 MBs. "http://www.xxx.yyy.zzz/server-status" doesn't show me too much to, so I am looking the behavior of specific httpd process. ProcessID "18753" is the one for "http://www.xxx.yyy.zzz/server-status" in my browser.
This command show me (In KBs) how much virtual memory is that specific process using: # /etc/init.d/httpd start # grep Private_Dirty /proc/18753/smaps | awk '{ print $2 }' | xargs ruby -e 'puts ARGV.inject { |i, j| i.to_i + j.to_i }' 3012 ... Running this command a lot of times it gives me the same output, but suddenly... # grep Private_Dirty /proc/18753/smaps | awk '{ print $2 }' | xargs ruby -e 'puts ARGV.inject { |i, j| i.to_i + j.to_i }' 21708
Something make that process (and all the others httpd process too) to use a lot more memory!
Part of my httpd.conf: # Timeout 120 KeepAlive On MaxKeepAliveRequests 100 KeepAliveTimeout 3
My server is running Mysql 5.1.34, vsftpd 2.0.5, BIND 9.3.4-P1 (as slave). I couldn't found anything running in the specific time that httpd processes start to use that much memory.
I have a java program that runs on Debian as a background processor. Yesterday the Java program stopped running. I looked at the memory usage, the system only had 5MB memory left, so my guess is that the java program ran out of memory to use.
However, after we restarted the java program, we could see that the free memory count started to go up. It kept going up from 5MB to over 400MB. The increase of memory happened slowly, when I measured it, I could see that with each minute passing by, there were a bit more memory added into the free memory pool, and meanwhile, the java background process was running.
I wonder why this would ever happen. It's as if our java program first brought the machine done because it consumed all the memories, then after restart, it starts to give back memories.
Is there something which can act as a fully fledged proxy (exactly like squid) but which can also monitor data usage?
At the moment what I do is I log data usage of IP addresses (allocated by DHCP) by using IPFM. Obviously getting a new IP address from a DHCP server isn't hard and this could be abused.
So I was thinking if I require proxy authentication and log usage that way, there is no way for anyone to abuse the system.
Does anyone know of a proxy server capable of logging data usage?
I'm monitoring all kind of things like ( Mem, network, cpu, IOPS,..) But still not found a command where i can see the CPU usage but in MHZ ( or Hz). Using top or looking into /proc/cpuinfo doesn't give me the info i want.
I was trying to have a go at installing MAC on my dell alongside Ub and W7. I copied the grub2 to the first part of my sda5 so as to put the mac loader in MBR.I have since repaired grub2 back to MBR.But now my beloved Ubuntu starts up then continuosly increases RAM usage till 90% then SWAP 90% even when no application is running!!
I have run into a problem with my desktop using roughly 50% RAM (w/o buffers or cache) while running a limited set of applications (fbterm, tmux, weechat, ncmpc, rtorrent) on the command line. This usage only increases roughly 5-10% when starting X (an addition of xcompmgr, awesome wm, zim, parcellite, 2x conky (one replacing root-tails functionality), plus firefox and other apps that may or may not be running from time to time). (h)top is reporting programs only using roughly .1-.2% per proccess and roughly 100 processes (current look at top shows 120 processes, only 32 of which are registering any usage over 0.0%) The RAM usage when in the console (which I will add is about 150MB after boot) is totally unreasonable and I need some direction on trying to find out what is using all of this RAM.
System: Distro: Arch Linux RAM: 2G CPU: AMD 64 x2 4800+ HDD: 3x WD Black 750G (RAID 5 on partition 2 (swap) and 3 (root), RAID 1 on partition 1 (boot). LVM over root partition) GPU: Nvidia 8400 GS
I have just started to have a problem with Xorg it is always using at least 30% of my CPU, and the whole system does not run smooth so if I play a video it does not run smooth, it judders, also even if I drag an icon it judders across the screen. Im running Ubuntu 10.10 2.6.35-25-generic x86_64 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98M [GeForce G105M] (rev a2)
I have a desktop PC that I built back when I was a teenager, running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and nothing else. I love it, but for one thing: the dang CPU usage hits at least 99% whenever any application besides Xorg is open and running. This doesn't affect performance too much, but if Windows XP Home Edition never gets close to 100% usage, then I figure there's something going on.
I am running latest apache2 available in the lucid repos on my desktop. All packages are updated as of this moment. Now in the root of my web server I have placed several soft links that point to folders on another ext3/ntfs partitions on the same disk. When I try to download any large file (say above 500M)on this server using firefox, when the 'save' window appears, my desktop freezes, I notice very high cpu-ram-disk usage, even though I have not yet clicked on 'ok' to save the file. This issue is not present when the file size is small. Note that firefox and the webserver are running on the same computer.
Also I have tried nginx and lighttpd and the issue is present there as well. When I tried downloading the same files using Internet Explorer 6.0 using a XP VM the issue is not present. However on Windows as well using Firefox the issue recurs.
I've just installed ubuntu 10.04 and the message text that shows when you ssh in shows the disk usage of /home.How do I get it to show the disk usage of the entire root / instead? (like it used to on some older version of ubuntu)
how to Check the disk usage of different linux servers using df -h linux command. My host server is 66.50.100.1, I can check its disk usage by using df -h command. I got my disk usage. Now using my host server Im going to check the server 66.50.100.3 disk usage. Is its possible to check the disk usage of 66.50.100.3 using my host server?
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 (almost ready to upgrade to 10.04) with a geforce 8800 and as of a few days ago an additional monitor (of a different rez, natch). What I'm trying to do is run the second monitor in it's own X screen. It seems to function; I can run the mouse seamlessly off one screen to another and I can move files from one screen to another and back. The problem is that all I can see on the second monitor is the mouse cursor.
It appears that compiz is running cube fine, as far as watching the cursor disappear momentarily as I roll desktops. It flashes active several times while getting the desktop together on boot (this is particularly mean-spirited IMHO) then goes black. I can even see files I've dropped there when it's flashing me. It's there, I swear it, and X server is running screen 0 flawlessly. How can I turn the light on in X server screen 1?
i have an old laptop running as a server it has no video output so i remote desktop to it when making changes using teamviewer. just went into the system monitor and processes to find that teamviewer.exe was running...this has kinda confused me as i thought .exe couldnt run unless using wine. which has to be configured in most cases too. i mean the program is working perfectly but why the .exe?
Good day, installed ubuntu 10.04 64bit yesterday on my laptop just to test everything before the release at the end of the month. However I took a look at my System Monitor and my second CPU(2) is constantly running at 100%, however theirs no apparent processes to cause this.
How do I do this in 10.4? I need to be able to Remote Desktop into my server over SSH but can't because I don't have a spare monitor on hand... and Ubuntu won't start a desktop if it doesn't detect a monitor.
I am running Ubuntu 8.04LTS x64 on a Dell Poweredge 1900 with a Perc 5i RAID Controller. There are 3 500Gb SAS drives in a RAID 5 configuration. The Kernel is Linux dtpfs 2.6.24-27-server #1 SMP Wed Jan 27 23:39:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Approximately once every 1 - 2 months I have a problem where the disk usage starts to rise for no apparent reason. When I run df the usage grows steadily over 2-3 days from 26% to 100%. At this point Samba reports that the disks are full. Baobab does not report the additional usage and the tape backup ignores the 'extra' usage and just backs up what was previously there. When I reboot the machine the usage is set back to normal and we can continue.
Recently the power went when i was using ubuntu and my system shut down since the ups took too long to supply power. So i started my system and choose to boot linux, but it said display drivers not detected, linux running in low graphic mode, and it said 1. run windows in low graphic mode for now...2. reset to previous graphic mode- i chose this and it restarted, since then the ubuntu loading page appears and then my monitor goes blank although my processor is running.....why is this happening?.....i have a ati 5770 graphic card through which it should display.
Is there any way to monitor one process' CPU usage and RAM usage over time on Linux? I am trying to change to a cheaper VPS and need to work out what level of CPU and RAM I need!
My wife was using cryptkeeper fine, then she right-clicked the keys on the panel and did something, I'm not sure what. Anyway, the keys you click on to open the encrypted folder are gone and I can't figure out how to get them back. System monitor shows cryptkeeper running. I can kill it and re-start it, but the keys don't show on the panel. I'm running ubuntu 9.10.
