I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?
I did something stupid and i don't know what i did or how to fix it. For some reason every time i click within the contents (not the title bar) of a window (for example; firefox, transmission, nautilus, terminal, basically any running application) and drag the mouse while holding the left mouse button down the entire window moves instead of the expected behavior (selecting text in firefox, moving a file in nautilus, selecting a torrent in transmission, clicking checkbox in system preferences, etc).
This is the expected behavior you would get from clicking on the title bar but not the contents of the window. Right before this happened, i had installed Xephyr and Sugar emulator (for XO OLPC). In the title bar of the Sugar emulator it said to push "ctrl + shift" in order to grab/release the mouse - I had issues getting the mouse successfully grabbed and released - this is around the time all of the problems started.
I have since removed Sugar and Xephyr yet this problem remains. It appears that i have somehow toggled a setting to make moving windows the default behavior when clicking.what i did to cause this to happen and what i can do to fix it? I don't want to have to reinstall. p.s. its not a stuck key - i have rebooted multiple times and the problem remains passed reboots.
p.p.s at the login screen the behavior is not present, you must hold ALT while clicking on the login window in order to exhibit the behavior. However. once Gnome is loaded you no longer need to hold ALT to window the move, it just defaults to that behavior.
I have a few folders I need to remove and when I right click delete or move to trash not available. I guess I don't have permission. I am the sole user of this machine and the Admin. How do I remove these folders. The folders were part of ClamAV which has been removed. They show up as a virus in my Avast Anti Virus.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using the Pandora One app. on my opensuse 13 installation and two things have come up.
1st, (almost certainly because it's an Adobe Air container) I can't right-click on the title bar and move the app. to another workspace like I can with every other app. Is there a workaround like a key press combination or something?
2nd, and I am not sure if this is specifically a Pandora issue some combination of apps. but sometimes (most noticeable when Pandora is running) all my apps. just "freeze" for many secs. (perhaps about 10-20 secs.) and then suddenly all my clicks and key presses catch up. I have a 2.6Ghz quad core duo CPU and it doesn't look anywhere near at 100% on any of the cores when this happens (more like 10%). It seems like there's some sort of a "lock" preventing all internal messaging in X for those seconds. If there was a way to lower the thread priority on the Pandora app. then that might be a good way to resolve this but I have no idea how to do that.

View 1 Replies View Relatedon desktop, my mouse works normal. i can open programs normally, BUT, when i try to click inside some window, pointer turns into closed hand, that symbols dragging. i can move the window that way, but can't click anything except when holding shift, alt or ctrl.it's probably my fault, but i don't remember pressing anything different than usually. oh, and, it started in the middle of the session, i tried to reboot several times, tried recovery too, after that updated but no help there.i was looking for solution on google but can't find anything for days, i cant think of anything but reinstallation

I would like to remove OR move down the "create folder, launcher etc" so the first button can be Open Terminal. I have used both NACT and nautilus-actions to get the Open Terminal on the menu - but I would like it to be on the top (old habit).
I installed a dual boot windows 7 and xubuntu and now decided that I would like to allocate more hard disk space to xubuntu. I've resized the windows partition (sda2 in the screenshot) and it is now the grey unallocated. I'm having trouble moving this unallocated space to the linux portion (sda5). I did my homework and found that this is done by booting off a live cd and using gparted from there, because you can't modify a partition that you're using. I also read that you had to turn swap off. I did both of these tasks, but as you can see from the attached screenshot, I am unable to resize the linux partition to fill the unallocated space.
Here's my "sudo fdisk -l" for reference:
Code:
Disk /dev/sda: 320.1 GB, 320072933376 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
[code]....
Also, the sda4 is a shared partition that I can access from both windows and linux.
somehow I got posted before I got my message written. I posted my complete question in the next post
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering whether there is an inbuilt logging system in UNIX?
I ran and installation and the program opened up automatically but I can't find the program executable.
If I could find a log then I could locate this file.
The good news is I was able to shrink one of my partitions to create some unallocated space. The bad news is the unallocated space is on my primary partition, so gparted is not allowing me to use that space to create another partition since I already have two primaries and an extended. Any tricks to do that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a server with the default VolGroup00 that contains logical volumes for the root file system and swap using logical volumes LogVol00 (root) and LogVol01 (swap.) I need to take space from LogVol00 and move it to LogVol01. I have found documentation for increasing the swap, and the resizing the logical volumes. However in the documentation and the man pages it says that I have to reduce the size of teh file system on the logical volume I am going to shrink. I have found documentation resizing the logical volumes but not the file systems.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've looked, but no luck. Coming from Debian, 5.02, is there a setting in Ubuntu 10.10 that will allow me to single click to open a folder/launch a program. I don't mean the one i am using now that is set up with the mouse setting where it seems to be an assistive technologies application where there is a slider to set the dwell time (when i use this one, i get a menu opening at the same time as the application launch), but the one where the pointer turns to a little hand when it moves over the icon, and opens/launches the program when the button is released.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided to persist with Unity having spent until today launching in an Ubuntu Classic session. The thing that bugs me the most is the fact that each program has its menu (ie File, Edit etc) in the top panel. This may be fine for netbooks but not my laptop.I just launched Tomboy, which startde with its window in the bottom right of the screen, however to get to the programs menu I have to move the cursor all the way to the top right of the screen - miles.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got a windows partition with a lot of free space followed by an extended partition. The extended partition has three sub-partitions: grub/boot&everything else, home, swap.
I'd like to take some of the free space out of the NTFS partition and move it down into the extended partition for Ubuntu to use.
I've successfully shrunken the NTFS partition. Now I've got 5gb of unallocated space between the end of NTFS an start of the extended partitions.
Now I want to extend the boot/everything else sub-partition within the extended sub-partition.
Using the gParted live CD I'm:Resizing the extended partition (growing it forward by 5gb)
Resizing the boot/everything sub-partition forward by 5b
When I try to apply the changes I get an error: Unable to satisfy all constraints on the partition.
Is it possible to move this space into my extended partitions so Ubuntu has more space?
This has been consistent with all 4 of my Ubuntu installs (1 wubi, 1 minimal, 2 full cd). Of note, it's on the same machine, but on 2 different hard drives and with various configurations of different hard drives being plugged/unplugged. I apologize for the terrible drawing but it should get the point across. That space about a third of the way up, clicking in it does nothing. The cursor doesn't change whether it's over a link or text or a file or anything. The spot hasn't moved over 4 installations. I don't even know what to google... (I'm just assuming it's a rectangle like that from moving my mouse around it, there's nothing actually on the screen to indicate that there's an actual thing in the area preventing me from clicking.) Weird! And incredibly annoying, I've never heard of anything like this. Has anyone had this problem, if so how was it solved?

So far the most common complaint I have gotten "missing arguments to execdir".
This is on Ubuntu 10.04
I have directory with sub directories in it. Inside I have bunch of pictures. I would like to find all pictures, and move them to one tmp directory. While moving there might be files with same names. The command I use:
--- find . -name '*JPG' -exec mv -i {} /home/xxx/xxx/xxx/Pictures/2004/tmp ; ---
now the problem comes with overwrite if there are two files with same name. Is there any simple way to copy all files into one directory and not to loose any, appending certain, even random char, to the 2nd file would do.
Apache is installed and working fine using localhost. Php already installed in ubuntu, however i cannot find the directory where apache is installed so as to save my web pages there. server cannot interpret php files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedStrange. After a recent update, I can no longer right click on a folder and open it as Administrator. I get this error message:
Unable to determine the program to run.
The item you selected cannot be open with administrator powers because the correct application cannot be determined.
I don't quite get this but why is it looking for a program to run? I only want to open a folder, not run a program. Anyway, I have done an uninstall and re-install of nautilus-gksu but that did not solve the problem. I have googled but no answers I could use.
Again, all I want to do is open a folder as Administrator so I can perform other operations that require root permission on files in that folder.
