Ubuntu :: Adding Locations Pointed To By Copy To And Move To On Right Click?
Dec 4, 2010
When we right click on files and folders..copy to and move options are there in my system. only home folder and desktop are shown under these options..i want to add some of my own directories too..how do i do that ?
1. Where do I post reports of minor bugs?2. I think I found a minor bug...When you first install Ubuntu and log in. If you of the applet thing on the top bar and click the edit button next to 'Locations' the clock preferences will pop-up.Now if you click on the general tab you will see by default that the clock applet thing should show you the time, temperature and weather...Yet if you look and the applet there is no notification of the of the temperature and weather.I tried to see if un-checking them and closing then opening them up again and re-checking would work but that has no effect.I think this is a minor bug in ubuntu and/or gnome and I would like and update and/or for Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat to correct this.
I tried setting up sftp for my users. Each of my user have their home directory at "/var/www/public_html/$USER". When my users are using sftp, they can only see their own directories and unable to move to other locations of the system. I followed through the following tutorials: [URL]
The users are able to sftp into the system successfully. However, they are able to see the whole system. Somehow, it appears that the users are not jailed in their home directory although in the tutorial it states otherwise. The difference of my system against the tutorial is that I am using Dropbear for SSH server while it is using Openssh server. Although dropbear does not support sftp, I am able to login through sftp through the use of sftp-server. For the internal mechanics, I am not sure how though.
Assuming that when I tried to SFTP, the sftp-server is ran with the sshd_config, then everything should be working fine right? Do i need to run chroot command at all? The following is the procedure I used to attempt the objective:
1) Add a new user to the group: SFTPonly 2) Chown user:SFTPonly user/home/directory 2) Modify the sshd_config to what is reflected in the tutorial and other paths.
I did something stupid and i don't know what i did or how to fix it. For some reason every time i click within the contents (not the title bar) of a window (for example; firefox, transmission, nautilus, terminal, basically any running application) and drag the mouse while holding the left mouse button down the entire window moves instead of the expected behavior (selecting text in firefox, moving a file in nautilus, selecting a torrent in transmission, clicking checkbox in system preferences, etc).
This is the expected behavior you would get from clicking on the title bar but not the contents of the window. Right before this happened, i had installed Xephyr and Sugar emulator (for XO OLPC). In the title bar of the Sugar emulator it said to push "ctrl + shift" in order to grab/release the mouse - I had issues getting the mouse successfully grabbed and released - this is around the time all of the problems started.
I have since removed Sugar and Xephyr yet this problem remains. It appears that i have somehow toggled a setting to make moving windows the default behavior when clicking.what i did to cause this to happen and what i can do to fix it? I don't want to have to reinstall. p.s. its not a stuck key - i have rebooted multiple times and the problem remains passed reboots.
p.p.s at the login screen the behavior is not present, you must hold ALT while clicking on the login window in order to exhibit the behavior. However. once Gnome is loaded you no longer need to hold ALT to window the move, it just defaults to that behavior.
I have a few folders I need to remove and when I right click delete or move to trash not available. I guess I don't have permission. I am the sole user of this machine and the Admin. How do I remove these folders. The folders were part of ClamAV which has been removed. They show up as a virus in my Avast Anti Virus.
I've been using the Pandora One app. on my opensuse 13 installation and two things have come up.
1st, (almost certainly because it's an Adobe Air container) I can't right-click on the title bar and move the app. to another workspace like I can with every other app. Is there a workaround like a key press combination or something?
2nd, and I am not sure if this is specifically a Pandora issue some combination of apps. but sometimes (most noticeable when Pandora is running) all my apps. just "freeze" for many secs. (perhaps about 10-20 secs.) and then suddenly all my clicks and key presses catch up. I have a 2.6Ghz quad core duo CPU and it doesn't look anywhere near at 100% on any of the cores when this happens (more like 10%). It seems like there's some sort of a "lock" preventing all internal messaging in X for those seconds. If there was a way to lower the thread priority on the Pandora app. then that might be a good way to resolve this but I have no idea how to do that.
on desktop, my mouse works normal. i can open programs normally, BUT, when i try to click inside some window, pointer turns into closed hand, that symbols dragging. i can move the window that way, but can't click anything except when holding shift, alt or ctrl.it's probably my fault, but i don't remember pressing anything different than usually. oh, and, it started in the middle of the session, i tried to reboot several times, tried recovery too, after that updated but no help there.i was looking for solution on google but can't find anything for days, i cant think of anything but reinstallation
Anyone know how to add the capability to right-click on the desktop in Fedora 15 to get the terminal? I googled it and there was an article which said to install gnome-tweak-tool and use the file manager. So I did, but right click does exactly nothing.
In windows when I install gvim/vim, it automatically installs a context menu in explorer that lets me edit a file in gvim by simply right clicking and pressing v. For someone who edits a lot of files and is really used to vim, it is super-convenient. I want to do the same thing in nautilus. So I installed nautilus-actions and added to the context menu of editing with gvim. That wasn't hard. The hard part is getting that keyboard key to bind to that context menu item. Currently when I right click and press v, it sends the item to trash. I want it such that when I right click a file and press v, it edits the file in gvim. How can I do that? I want a good solution, and am willing to switch file managers/window managers if need be. This particular shortcut key is very important to my user experience.
I would like to remove OR move down the "create folder, launcher etc" so the first button can be Open Terminal. I have used both NACT and nautilus-actions to get the Open Terminal on the menu - but I would like it to be on the top (old habit).
im using ubuntu 10.04 sometimes i find more useful to use the terminal to copy or move folders or files to other directories (more important when they need admin permission)
today i tried to copy ALL files from a directory to another. and i realized that i dont know. i know that that "~ mv /ThisThing/ /ThisFolder/" "~ cp /ThisThing/ /ThisFolder/" but howould i be able to copy EVERYTHING from a folder into another. tis is diferent from copying the folder itself (which i also would like to know)i bet is a simple thing that i havent figured out!
Im usign photorec to recover some files that i lost during a format to my hard drive.
The program works like a charm but put all the files on differents folders. i use the find command to put on a list the jpg files but how i use the cp or the mv command to move that files in the list to another folder?
I have to copy and move files over two systems all the time. So when I am on system 1, I simply use the command
Code: $scp * system2:/some_directory
There are many files in PWD of system1 with different extensions. Of all the files in the PWD on system1, I don't need a file called *residual.dat as it it particularly big and wastes a lot of time copying. How can I make a shortcut so that every time I do scp, it copies everything but the *residual.dat file?
We have two folders: source folder and destination folder. In source folder we have many sub folders and many files of different type!Script that would copy or move defined number of files from source to destination folder. Files must be selected randomly and sub folder in source folders must be selected randomly and we don't copy or move defined number of files just form one sub folder in source folder. In destination folder sub directory structure of source folder should not be preserved. Solution should be robust and as simple as possible.
I wonder if it's normal that when:-I copy files; -I move files;-I download data (files, video, etc.) from the Internetthe CPU is completely loaded at 100%. In comparison, on Windows XP (SP2), on the same computer, the same situation makes the CPU consumes only half of the processor, oscillating near of 50%.N.B. RAM is not affected by the above problem. My computer is equipped with:-CPU AMD Athlon XP 2400 + (2.0 GHz)-685 MB of RAM-Motherboard: SiS-741
I am able to view my windows network from my UBUNTU desktop after being prompted for a username and password to the windows network. No problem. But how can I accomplish this from the command prompt?
Here is my windows directory; smb://corpserver/d$/Data
Basically taking a csv file and moving it from mysql directory on my Ubuntu machine to a network folder on my windows server. (Windows Server 2003)
When I try that command from the command prompt I recieve;
Code: mv: cannot move `/var/lib/mysql/RepoSecuredData.csv' to `smb://corpserver/d$/Data/Common/Secured%20Repo%20Reports/20100323_RepoSecuredData.csv': No such file or directory
I can't perform any of those.Except from the Terminal.I didn't edit any permission... nor installed anything.Don't know what to do.Also, "Move to Trash" appears grayed out, in the right-click menu (for all the files/folders).
For anyone experiencing dolphin freeze ups after updating to KDE 4.5.00 For openSUSE 11.3 users experiencing Dolphin freezing up when cut and copying use the following link to update dbus-1:

I want to move my working copy of an SVN repository from /usr to /homeCan I just move the repository using mv or is there something else that needs to be done? The same goes for deleting a working copy of a repository, if I wanted to delete my working copy could I just go ahead and delete it or is there some administration that needs to be done first?
I'm probably missing something noobishly obvious here. I recently did a fresh Lucid install on my main desktop box, which had previously been running Karmic. With Lucid I can no longer use fstab in my laptops to automatically mount the desktop's shared media drive. Using the mount command works fine. One laptop is running Karmic, the other is running Hardy. This is the line in fstab on both laptops:
Code: //192.168.0.123/multimedia /media/multimedia cifs username=x,password=y 0 0 This is unchanged since the desktop was running Karmic, where auto-mounting from the lappys worked just
I've been using Ubuntu for about 6 months now, but haven't had a need to start scripting until just recently. I know programming basics, but that's about it.Anyway, I have a program that I would normally run in this manner (note that I didn't create a permanent alias because I've been moving the program around a lot):alias dx='python /path/to/dxProgram.py' dx A_input.dx B_input.dxSo, you see, program dx takes two input files, and 'A' must come before 'B'. I have a folder full of these types of files that I'd like to loop through with this program. They're named as follows:
I am runnig WinXP and OpenSUSE 11.4 on dual boot.Generaly i am using SUSE, XP only for UpNP Media Center(server) to watch movies stored on my computer on TV via STB.For this i am using TVersity for wich i not found yet Linux alternative - or better say - i found it but is too heavy for my PC(P4 1.6 Mhz, 768 MB RAM, an dinosaur from Nvidia Vanta with 64 MB RAM)But this is not a part of my question. My question is how to transfer(copy, move...?) files from SUSE to WinXP?A large files like avi, mkv, mostly movies.I solved this to copy them on USB and then from USB to Win.This is a very slow proces because my PC have only USB 1.0And before asked me - all files are legaly downloaded from paysites. From SUSE, partitions(disks), folders and files under WinXP are visible but is not possible to copy files on them - acces is denied. Is there any way to do this?Suse is insatlled on LVM - /root/home/swapI am interesting ONLY to copy files from SUSE to Win, not at al from Win to SUSE.Code:

I try to configure mouse click interval since a single click is recognized as double click by doing it from KDE mouse configuration in system settings; but my attempt doesn't work even (I set the click interval to 2 sec, but doesn't change anything). What is the best way to do this in slackware?
I am having some troubles using iptable rules on two Servers that act as Gateways pointed to one backend server with only one interface.
To be more exact, i have 3 Servers, 2 of those have a public and a private interface, with different public ips but common private interface ( they connect to the same switch ), the last one only has 1 private interface and is connected to that same switch.
Those 2 servers also act as a gateway and a firewall for the private network.
My problem is that i cannot seem able to route traffic from both of those to the third one and back to the same public ip that the request came from ( effectivly using two gateways on the machine with only one interface ).
As a testing scenario i am using ferm for applying iptable rules that forward ssh traffic ( for example ) to the backend server, and it works well when i do it with one gateway.
When i apply something like this in /etc/network/interfaces on the backend server though:
Even though forcing selection of an interface from the backend server ( like curl --interface ) seems to work well, meaning that the request to the curl appear to happen from the correct public ip, i can still only use one of the public ips to access the server with the ferm rules. Ideally i should be able to ssh to the backend server from both public ips using their ferm rules for forwarding traffic to the backend server.
I feel like i am missing some details on routing that should happen on the firewalls as the backend server seems to be able to use both gateways to access the internet and receive replies from it.
