Fedora :: Move OR Delete The First 3 Entries In Desktop Right Click In Gnome
Apr 15, 2010
OS: fed 12
WM: gnome
I would like to remove OR move down the "create folder, launcher etc" so the first button can be Open Terminal. I have used both NACT and nautilus-actions to get the Open Terminal on the menu - but I would like it to be on the top (old habit).

I have a few folders I need to remove and when I right click delete or move to trash not available. I guess I don't have permission. I am the sole user of this machine and the Admin. How do I remove these folders. The folders were part of ClamAV which has been removed. They show up as a virus in my Avast Anti Virus.

I am working on Red Hat Linux since last six months and learning it steps by steps. like configurating ftp server,NSF ,DNS and then email server. I want to learn squid server but technically before going into it what you suggest me that may I first learn to configure Linux as a router,Firewall machine or do IP masquerading on a server. Because all these things are directly or indirectly involve in squid. So guide me because going to start squid i may understand Linux IP table ,how to add entries in it,how to delete entries ,I think you understand my point which i want to ask for guidence.

For Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / Gnome 2.30.2.
I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?

Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?

So I have some entries like the ones below. I have a system setup to do all the routing/dhcp/dns. This is a private network for education purposes only, and I have no idea how half of these addresses got in the arp table.
shell>arp -n
192.58.128.30 (incomplete) eth0
192.228.79.201 (incomplete) eth0
192.36.148.17 (incomplete) eth0
[Code].....
how to just clear the table. That's all I want. Is that too much to ask? I also noticed in Wireshark that packets are constantly being sent to find the MAC address that these IPs belong too. I really want that to stop happening.
EDIT: I have also tried using ip neighbor. I ran "ip neighbor del 192.58.128.30 dev eth0", and it gave no errors but didn't remove the entry. All the ones without a MAC are also listed as FAILED in ip neighbor.

Before Ubuntu I used m8, and the boot options for m8 still shows up in the grub startup screen. I want to get rid of those m8 entries. I have edited grub in the past, and it was just a regular text file, where you could just remove lines or even change listing order.Edit the menu using the command "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst.No good, there is no such file on my system. After password, That command displays a blank Gedit screen.

In Dolphin, when right clicking for context menu, my "Open with" list is trashed with multiple entries, that also contain old applications that I no longer have (or even had?). Just for example: for pdfs I have 3 Acrobat Readers, 2 FoxitReaders, 2 okulars, 2 GIMPs (?) etc. Same for other file types. How to clean it? I absolutely don't mind wiping it completely, so that it all goes back to default values. Configuring it anew is much better than having this list bother me every time I use a right click. I'm on 10.10 now, upgraded from 10.04. I've been using my home folder for like ever, without cleaning it, which is probably the source of the issue.

After I adjust my slackware and rebooted I saw a strange "rectangle" on my desktop. Please, look at the screenshots below and tell me how I should solve this problem.
I can't move it. Right-click menu on a rectangle coincides with a right-click on desktop. It does not prevent, but very annoying.

My laptop is set to dual boot, either Ubuntu 9.10 or Windows Vista. The GRUB loader has multiple entries, starting with Ubuntu, then several instances of Ubuntu recovery mode, before memory test and two entries for Vista, the first of which does not work. How do I delete the unwanted entries? I can press "e" to edit them, but if I do so how do I actually delete them, assuming it is safe to do so.

This seems like it should be simple to do. I have a fresh F13 install running Gnome, and the gnome panel is on the left-hand side of the monitor. I want it on the righthand side. So far I have been unable to achieve this. I can't drag the panel (even with ALT held down), and if I try to set orientation to "Right" it changes back the "Left" again

Alright, on my last Linux installation I know I did not get graphics lag this bad.
So I go to move a window around, Nautilus, Firefox, a Terminal, and when I move it it takes a second to reach the location and refresh on my screen, and if I move my mouse within that time period then it will move the window somewhere I did not want it.
I disabled Smooth Scrolling in Preferences => Advanced => General for Firefox but I do not think it helped. It takes ages to scroll to where I want it and by the time it gets there it keeps going because I scrolled too many times. I receive scrolling lag on seemly any document of text, this includes gedit as well.
I'm working on finding out what graphics card I have so I can see if it has Linux drivers. I know it is an ATI, but I have no idea how to get its name using Linux commands.

I've been using the Pandora One app. on my opensuse 13 installation and two things have come up.
1st, (almost certainly because it's an Adobe Air container) I can't right-click on the title bar and move the app. to another workspace like I can with every other app. Is there a workaround like a key press combination or something?
2nd, and I am not sure if this is specifically a Pandora issue some combination of apps. but sometimes (most noticeable when Pandora is running) all my apps. just "freeze" for many secs. (perhaps about 10-20 secs.) and then suddenly all my clicks and key presses catch up. I have a 2.6Ghz quad core duo CPU and it doesn't look anywhere near at 100% on any of the cores when this happens (more like 10%). It seems like there's some sort of a "lock" preventing all internal messaging in X for those seconds. If there was a way to lower the thread priority on the Pandora app. then that might be a good way to resolve this but I have no idea how to do that.

I did something stupid and i don't know what i did or how to fix it. For some reason every time i click within the contents (not the title bar) of a window (for example; firefox, transmission, nautilus, terminal, basically any running application) and drag the mouse while holding the left mouse button down the entire window moves instead of the expected behavior (selecting text in firefox, moving a file in nautilus, selecting a torrent in transmission, clicking checkbox in system preferences, etc).
This is the expected behavior you would get from clicking on the title bar but not the contents of the window. Right before this happened, i had installed Xephyr and Sugar emulator (for XO OLPC). In the title bar of the Sugar emulator it said to push "ctrl + shift" in order to grab/release the mouse - I had issues getting the mouse successfully grabbed and released - this is around the time all of the problems started.
I have since removed Sugar and Xephyr yet this problem remains. It appears that i have somehow toggled a setting to make moving windows the default behavior when clicking.what i did to cause this to happen and what i can do to fix it? I don't want to have to reinstall. p.s. its not a stuck key - i have rebooted multiple times and the problem remains passed reboots.
p.p.s at the login screen the behavior is not present, you must hold ALT while clicking on the login window in order to exhibit the behavior. However. once Gnome is loaded you no longer need to hold ALT to window the move, it just defaults to that behavior.

I'm running Fedora 15 with Gnome 3. I installed Gnome-Do using 'yum install gnome-do'. I opened it from the Terminal by typing 'gnome-do' but I keep getting an error message that says
Could not load desktop item: libgnome-desktop-2.so.17
Gnome-Do opens but it doesn't display any application I search for and when I try opening the Gnome-Do preferences, it quits.
I installed gnome-desktop-2.32.0-8.fc16.i686.rpm from here: [url] and then installed Gnome-Do. Everything works fine now.
