Ubuntu Multimedia :: Turn Black Border Areas Of Scanned Book To White One
Jul 22, 2011I just scanned a book recently and as what happens in these situations , the borders get dark I just looking for a simple way (prefer command line) to solve this problem maybe, crop pictures for cutting out the borders and then change the dimension (NOT MEAN STRETCH) to regain original size I am not sure , but any others ways that can turn black border areas to white one is fine with me.

Aug 24, 2011For the life of me I cant remember what this bar is called, but if you right click, it allows you to close the window, minimize or maximize it, etc.
I like black themes, and right now everything but that bar is black.
Is there any way to change that bar from white to black?

i have xterminus installed. i also have a white block over the first letter in my username and when i begin typing, the 'block-type cursor' just leaves full white spaces behind and i cannot read my text at all. even when i delete back over the white spaces, they stay whited out.

Ubuntu :: Get Rid Of Sidebar Border In Nautilus?
May 12, 2010I've seen a lot of screenshots on gnome-look.org of themes that have nautilus without the ugly sidebar border. However when I install these themes I still get that border.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?
Ubuntu :: Border Of Windows Disappearing In 10.04?
Jul 2, 2010I've been having a recurring problem with the borders of all my windows disappearing along with their associated buttons (minimize, maximize, close). The bar which would normally display the name of the current window appears grey, and all other windows have a thick grey border around them. I noticed some people on here having similar problems and tried applying the solutions in those threads to my problem, but none of them solved the problem permanently. The borders seem to disappear at random shortly after my computer boots. Sometimes it happens as soon as I open a window, other times it takes a few minutes. It always happens though. Here's a link to some screen captures of what I'm experiencing. The one is a shot of GIMP open with borders intact. The other, which I took a few minutes later, is Firefox with the no borders problem. This doesn't really hinder my ability to use my computer, but it certainly is annoying. I do have compiz installed, if that helps any.

Dec 6, 2010I've noticed that in linux, firefox is missing a bottom border. This makes it impossible to enable/disable tor (via torbutton addon) or 9enable/disable noscript addon). how to either move these two ''buttons'' on a toolbar or to re-enable the bottom border?

Feb 26, 2010Has anyone seen or heard of the following problem? I have a 1in black border surrounding my display. I've been running google searches all day without much luck. My current setup is as follows: Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit), 24in asus lcd, Radeon 5770, amd phenom 2 x4, ddr3 4gb, gigabyte mb. I noticed the border while running the live cd. I figured it had something to do with the video drivers. Last night I installed ATI's linux driver 10.2. I'm getting my preferred resolution of 1920x1080 over dvi. But i'm not able to use my full 24in. It's like using a 20in lcd.

Oct 30, 2010On my system (Ubuntu 9.x -> 10.x) I have always had the problem of not being able to select the edges of a window in order to change the window size. It seems that the 'hot' zone, which defines the window border selection area, is only 1 pixel wide. I find it very difficult to position the mouse pointer over this zone. Even if I am successful (which usually takes more than 20 tries), as soon as I begin to depress the mouse button, the merest movement causes the pointer to move off the 'hot' zone - and selection fails. The only work-around I have found is to select a corner point of a window -which seems much less sensitive - and then drag the window border in either a vertical or horizontal direction, rather than diagonally. But this is counter-intuitive and unsatisfactory.

Apr 28, 2011I just installed 11.04 and was installing everything I wanted fine till I got to installing compiz. It installed fine and ran for a few minutes before my window borders disappeared entirely (see the attached screenshot). I've since tried running metacity --replace, but this makes unity disappear, so I'm left with my open windows only.
PS; I heard that there can be issues with ATI/AMD. Alas, that is my exact setup. I am urged to install proprietary drivers, but they fail to download.

Jul 30, 2010Hi. I work with large image files. On my ubuntu laptop, the 20 MB files take forever to form the little preview thumbnail icons on the desktop, and everything freezes up until they generate.
I'm poking around my preferences and options, but I can't seem to find a way to tell Ubuntu that I don't want it to form preview icons. Is there some way to turn them off?

Nov 26, 2010Recently due to partitioning and a power failure Ive had to now copy all my backup movies etc. back onto ubuntu as they are corrupted. At the moment the thumbnails of the movies are the generic orange media image and when I replace it with the backup movie, across to ubuntu and refresh the browser, the thumbnail stays the same i.e. it doesn't show a small screen cap of the movie. Is there a way to 'refresh' them properly as it were? I am running Ubuntu 10.10.

The reason is every time the buffer is flushed to disk, Ubuntu starts making a new video thumbnail for the file.If I skip the first block that has the RIFF data, then Ubuntu doesn't realize it's a video, and the write speed is about doubled. Then I can write the RIFF data at the end of the transfer (in the appropriate place in the file).I have tried setting an exclusive flock on the file while writing; however, that does not prevent Ubuntu from reading the file while it's being written and generating thumbnails.
