I've noticed that in linux, firefox is missing a bottom border. This makes it impossible to enable/disable tor (via torbutton addon) or 9enable/disable noscript addon). how to either move these two ''buttons'' on a toolbar or to re-enable the bottom border?
View 5 RepliesI just installed 11.04 and was installing everything I wanted fine till I got to installing compiz. It installed fine and ran for a few minutes before my window borders disappeared entirely (see the attached screenshot). I've since tried running metacity --replace, but this makes unity disappear, so I'm left with my open windows only.
PS; I heard that there can be issues with ATI/AMD. Alas, that is my exact setup. I am urged to install proprietary drivers, but they fail to download.
After installing some Fedora software updates, I can no longer see the header frame in every window. Furthermore, I can't access any window frame after I open a new window frame.
How can I fix this? Can I remove all the updates I recently installed?
Note : After installing these update, when I reboot the system, I can see there are two version of Fedora.
I have firefox 5 on my old box. But the border disappear regularly (in flwm). how to then minimize the window? (where firefox is). Perhaps there is a "ctrl something" for making appearing again the flwm border?
In the remaining time, I have to close firefox with "File Exit" when I want to start another programm or go into another window. I desinstalled/reinstalled firefox, then the border was again then and i could minimize/maximize the window..

open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them.
e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)
these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.
I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.
I recently lost my Min Max and close buttons on pretty much every window. This seemed to start when I upgraded to 10.10. I did what was told in another thread on missing task bars. I managed to get them all back except on Firefox. I tried the preferences, double clicking up there, right clicking.

I am using firefox 5.0 under ubuntu 11.04. I have attached the screenshot of my firefox window. There is no menubar, no title bar, no close, minimize, maximize buttons. I am sure I am not in fullscreen mode.Moving the mouse to the top left corner does not bring out the launcher. Pressing Alt+Tab does not bring out window selection dialog (to switch to another application). I killed firefox from tty1 and restarted firefox. The problem persists.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOn one of my computers, I installed Lenny with Gnome and installed Firefox without a hitch. Now, on another computer I installed Lenny minimally, no desktop, just the jwm window manager and dual monitors. After installing Firefox, I have a problem.
When I try to run Firefox, it aborts with an error:
"Error while loading shared libraries: libasound.so.2: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory. " I tried to install libasound.so.2 with apt-get, but no luck.
I think I'm being attacked by a hacker: The mouse changes its position on the desktop, some windows fire and come to the front without a call, the address bar of the FireFox is hidden. Is there anything that can be done? I think the hacker works at a distro that i used some time ago.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Sabayon Linux, and recently when through a major upgrade where a lot of packages were upgraded.
After the upgrade, when launching firefox, the back and forward icons are missing. The buttons are actually there, as I can still select an empty grey rectangle. I also checked and it's happening for all users on the system.
I was using the persona's theme, but I stopped using that (for performance reasons). I just disabled it, I haven't actually removed it.
I tried re-installing gnome-icon-theme package from a suggestion on another linuxquestions.org thread, but that didn't help.
It's not a big deal as I can still use the buttons, but curious if anyone has any insight into what I can do to get the icons back.
I've seen a lot of screenshots on gnome-look.org of themes that have nautilus without the ugly sidebar border. However when I install these themes I still get that border.

I've been having a recurring problem with the borders of all my windows disappearing along with their associated buttons (minimize, maximize, close). The bar which would normally display the name of the current window appears grey, and all other windows have a thick grey border around them. I noticed some people on here having similar problems and tried applying the solutions in those threads to my problem, but none of them solved the problem permanently. The borders seem to disappear at random shortly after my computer boots. Sometimes it happens as soon as I open a window, other times it takes a few minutes. It always happens though. Here's a link to some screen captures of what I'm experiencing. The one is a shot of GIMP open with borders intact. The other, which I took a few minutes later, is Firefox with the no borders problem. This doesn't really hinder my ability to use my computer, but it certainly is annoying. I do have compiz installed, if that helps any.

I tried the "rpm", the "yum", and the "tar.gz" from the adobe site. Both rpms installed fine but I still can't view flash content in Firefox (missing plugin). The .tar.gz contained a .so file, but the installation instructions for the flash player said I should see an installer file in the .tar.gz, but I do not. I can't believe I can't even get flash player working. Their instructions said to check under "Help > About Plugins" but obviously Firefox does not and has never had such an option. I hate Adobe.

My current setup is as follows: Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit), 24in asus lcd, Radeon 5770, amd phenom 2 x4, ddr3 4gb, gigabyte mb. I noticed the border while running the live cd. I figured it had something to do with the video drivers. Last night I installed ATI's linux driver 10.2. I'm getting my preferred resolution of 1920x1080 over dvi. But i'm not able to use my full 24in. It's like using a 20in lcd.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed KDE on my Ubuntu setup to try kubuntu by installing the kubuntu-desktop package.I decided I didn't enjoy KDE as much as GNOME, so I went back into GNOME and uninstalled the kubuntu-desktop package via Synaptic.That didn't remove ANY of the stuff that it brought in, so I searched for the keywords "kubuntu" and "kde" and uninstalled all packages but one (libdecoration0) to get rid of all the KDE-mess.Now, after logging back in...THERE IS NO WINDOW BORDER. AT ALL.

View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my system (Ubuntu 9.x -> 10.x) I have always had the problem of not being able to select the edges of a window in order to change the window size. It seems that the 'hot' zone, which defines the window border selection area, is only 1 pixel wide. I find it very difficult to position the mouse pointer over this zone. Even if I am successful (which usually takes more than 20 tries), as soon as I begin to depress the mouse button, the merest movement causes the pointer to move off the 'hot' zone - and selection fails. The only work-around I have found is to select a corner point of a window -which seems much less sensitive - and then drag the window border in either a vertical or horizontal direction, rather than diagonally. But this is counter-intuitive and unsatisfactory.
