I just scanned a book recently and as what happens in these situations , the borders get dark I just looking for a simple way (prefer command line) to solve this problem maybe, crop pictures for cutting out the borders and then change the dimension (NOT MEAN STRETCH) to regain original size I am not sure , but any others ways that can turn black border areas to white one is fine with me.

Today while watching a video on my PC I noticed some white sparkles or spots appearing at the dark/blackish areas of the video.
The first thing that came to my mind was that the video may be corrupted so I tried another one. But the same thing happened with it too.
Then I changed the video driver of Smplayer from vdpau to xv but the same thing.
Then I tried playing those videos with vlc but those white things appeared there as well.
Here is an example of the problem. I have circled the areas with green.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI know this is Ubuntu forums, but my other laptop has Ubuntu and I know this is a community full of very smart people (got Ubuntu help the other day).Anyway , this laptop's problem is, the screen goes teal i areas that were once white. Now, originally I thought something was broken, but now my theory is it's a loose connection. On the bottom left of the screen there is a thick black cable that leads up behind the screen and connects with that duct tape looking thing. If I simply lift up on the black cable, the screen goes back to normal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues with my screen resolution. I am not sure if it is a monitor or graphics card issue. I believe I have the ATI x300 card. I am gunning a dell dimension E510. My monitor is a MAG Innovision. The screen resolution keeps changing. I had this same issue with 11.3. Also, the screen looks fuzzy in certain places, especially white areas and bars at the tops and bottoms of pages. By fuzzy, I mean it will be a color that doesn't belong there and it will kind of look like static, in either a line, or a blob, or just the whole box. I recently had to disable all desktop effects because they would make the screen unusable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI insert my DVD into my machine. The little "waddya wanna do" window then opens, and I select "play in VLC." I then press the play option on the video menu (not the play button on the VLC controls). Then the VLC window turns black, or the part where the video is supposed to appear does, anyway. So double-clicking to get to fullscreen sometimes fixes the problem, but then I can only view it in fullscreen, not good. It didn't fix the problem this time, so I double-clicked again to get out of fullscreen. Then my whole display turns black and white. WTH? The display problem fixes on a reboot.
This happens on a regular basis when I try to play movies. My display is, right now, black and white. After I finish this post I'll restart my computer to fix the colors.Also, it should be helpful that when I move the VLC window or am going to/from fullscreen, I can see the movie for a split second, and in full color. The rest of the screen stays B & W, though.Also, for some reason, when I play a movie, VLC open two windows: one with the video, and the other with a visualization and a title bar saying "VLC (X11 output)"
New install of the latest Ubuntu. Put in Tvtime and it worked straight away, sound and video, (although does not seem to want to switch between svideo, television, and composite, at least nothing seems to happen.) But it is in black and white!? Tried right-click menus nothing obvious seems to change things.

I've been struggling a while with getting the iMON LCD/IR-receiver on my Antec Fusion Black case to shutdown together with the system (XBMC Live 10). But it won't. When it's turned off the LCD still lights up the whole room. Many have proposed the "solution" of setting the machine into hibernation instead but that however won't work for me, since I'm unable to suspend my system.
It is the LCD/IR-module that prevents me from suspending and I haven't found a solution to properly unload it on suspending (it's way above my linux knowledge). getting the display to turn off the backlight when the system is turned off.

Has anyone seen or heard of the following problem? I have a 1in black border surrounding my display. I've been running google searches all day without much luck. My current setup is as follows: Ubuntu 9.10 (64-bit), 24in asus lcd, Radeon 5770, amd phenom 2 x4, ddr3 4gb, gigabyte mb. I noticed the border while running the live cd. I figured it had something to do with the video drivers. Last night I installed ATI's linux driver 10.2. I'm getting my preferred resolution of 1920x1080 over dvi. But i'm not able to use my full 24in. It's like using a 20in lcd.

I'm setting up a Dell Inspiron One 2305 and I can't get the native monitor resolution to work without black borders. I'm also experiencing blurry text in Firefox (not sure if this is related). At most other resolutions it will expand to the edges of the monitor fully. Note that the desktop area doesn't extend into the border. I tried glxgears and noticed that it was only pulling 60fps -- figuring it needed drivers I installed the latest ATI drivers. On reboot I was given more options for resolutions however the native one still doesn't work properly. I looked around for troubleshooting tips and looked into xrandr output.

Using 'configure display settings' in Gnome, any time I picked a resolution that was 50, it would cause the borders. Any time I picked a resolution that was 60 AND xrandr listed a 60 and 59.9 and said 60 was the selected one, the borders would come back for those too.
So I tried
xrandr --output DFP1 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 59.9
Seeing as every resolution with 59.9 worked. However... This still resulted in borders.
I am new to ubuntu and i'm loving it. I just cant figure out how the lights on my external hd lit up. in windows,if i install the smartware software, the lights will start to lit up to indicate the drive's capacity. now that i've switched to ubuntu. i can never make it to work

before i had ubuntu 10.04 which could only run in x's safe graphics mode - allowing for full screen resolution but with handicapped graphics - for example videos fullscreen would be quirky and run with cpu at 100%, something which was no problem before 10.04.
then i tried ubuntu 10.10 and later lubuntu 10.10 (which had exactly the same problem); the monitor is running 1440x900 while the computer is rendering to only 1024x768 - leaving a huge black border on right and bottom of screen. the gfx is still crippled; videos fullscreen is quirky as before.

This resolution was detected, at the initial install and later with sax2. It shows the desktop with a 1 inch wide black area along the right border of the screen and that is exactly what is missing at the left border (i.e. invisible). It is like the desktop is shifted to the left of the screen. As far as it is visible the image is crisp and clean. Lowering the resolution to 1280x960 works ok, but the aspect ratio is no longer correct. I have checked the archives and found Intel integrated graphics - openSUSE Forums but trying different hints from the thread did not help.

I can't get mythtv to play television with my Hauppauge HVR-850 tv card. I was able to view tv in mplayer, so I know that the card is working. The tv signal is broadcast only (no cable). I had to set the card type to DVB DTV capture card (v3.x) to get mythtv-setup to successfully scan. I was able to successfully scan both with a "full scan" and with a channels.conf file that I had generated earlier when tinkering tv in mplayer. Unfortunately, the mythtv frontend failed to play any live tv. It said "Error: MythTV is using all inputs, but there are no active recordings?"

I'm a (very) recent Ubuntu convert. Today I burned the Ubuntu 9.10 ISO to a CD with DiskUtility (Mac) and installed it on an old dell laying around (I installed it on the whole disk--no partition, no trace of Windows left behind). Anyway, it was really awesome and running really fast, until I opened up F-Spot picture manager. It was working well until I went into a slideshow. It started lagging and eventually froze up. I tried pressing f5 to get out of full screen then trying to hit esc and then Alt+4 in an effort to close it.
In the end I had to hold down the power button to make it shut down. When I turned it on again, it started normally and went to the black and white Ubuntu logo, then just went to a black screen. I tried again, and this time got a GNU thing (called Grub, I think?) asking if I wanted to do recovery mode. I entered my username and password and it had an error and went to a black screen. Should I just put my LiveCD back in and install it over my previous installation..?
Since I upgraded to 10.04, too many of the roll-over and popup notifications show as black background with white (or yellow) text. I find this unreadable.What controls this? How can I change it to normal black text on white background?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 10.04 installed in a dual boot system with windows 7 pro on 1 desktops and one laptop. Also dual boot on a desktop with windows xp and Ubuntu 10.04. The two desktops run AMD processors and the laptop uses an Intel processor. On the two desktops after booting the screen will fade to black and white and then back to color. While in the black and white the computer is frozen. This happens using Firefox mainly and other programs. It never happens using my laptop with the intel processor. Does Ubuntu 10.04 have a problem with AMD processors? It does it so much it is hard to do anything with the and desktop computers, but I have never seen it happen on my intel laptop.

Chipset Intel 845GV w/ Intel Extreme Graphics (shared memory up to 64 / 256 MB -I don't really get which one-).
Nevertheless, when I start the Pc, Ubuntu loads and, when it's about to load the desktop, the screen turns black with white stripes and "turns itself on and off" (like when it receives no image). I don't really know if this is or not a graphic bug / problem, but it's quite strange, as I've used Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.10 before in that same Pc.
By the way, I get the same error with the normal Ubuntu Lucid. AND, I have a Win XP Professional SP2 installed (I've installed the Ubuntu afterwards, so I have the Grub as default bootloader).
Also, I get the same error when loading Ubuntu in LiveCD mode.
