(This started after I upgraded from Ubuntu 8 ) Everytime I enable desktop effects (system -> preferences -> appearance) compiz replaces the pretty New Wave window border with the ugly Emerald glass window border (custom border) that I used on Ubuntu 8.

There are these little white flickers between the border between the window bar (w/ the window buttons) and the application every time I move the window.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been searching and have been unable to find a solution. My current theme is rather dark, for reading at night, etc. And with inactive windows on the screen, the border changes to white from black and makes it difficult on the eyes.
Is there a way to change this inactive color to another, such as black or dark gray?
I just have install Mac-theme on my Leny, and it make's my Window-border from right to Left, i want to have these on right(as by default in debian)...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use TCM (Toolkit for Conceptual Modeling) but the font used by the application for menus window headers & such is very hard to read. I can change the font used for fields within the application in the configuration file, but there doesn't seem to be a way to change the fonts for the other fonts.
Is there a way to do this through gnome or Ubuntu?
Way back from Windows 3.x days to the latest 64bit Windows 7 (classic/standard theme)there is a way to make the window edge border wider then 1 pixel.I often use 3 to 5 pixel to make it easy to grab on hi-resolutions displays and hi DPI monitors.There doesn't seem to be an easy or obvious way to do this with the Gnome X-Windowing system?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling to change the border color of the windows on Ubuntu without actually changing the theme (e.g., Keeping the "Human" theme, but having the frame borders be a different color than orange.) I have searched Google for some help, but found nothing that works. I have gone to System > Preferences > Appearance and set the 'Selected Items' color [URL] but to no avail. Only the controls changed color, not the window borders.

When I move the cursor to the edge of a window to resize it, i only get the resize arrow in a very small area and it takes me several tries to get it just right. Is there anyway to broaden the resize area threshold or something?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed KDE on my Ubuntu setup to try kubuntu by installing the kubuntu-desktop package.I decided I didn't enjoy KDE as much as GNOME, so I went back into GNOME and uninstalled the kubuntu-desktop package via Synaptic.That didn't remove ANY of the stuff that it brought in, so I searched for the keywords "kubuntu" and "kde" and uninstalled all packages but one (libdecoration0) to get rid of all the KDE-mess.Now, after logging back in...THERE IS NO WINDOW BORDER. AT ALL.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my system (Ubuntu 9.x -> 10.x) I have always had the problem of not being able to select the edges of a window in order to change the window size. It seems that the 'hot' zone, which defines the window border selection area, is only 1 pixel wide. I find it very difficult to position the mouse pointer over this zone. Even if I am successful (which usually takes more than 20 tries), as soon as I begin to depress the mouse button, the merest movement causes the pointer to move off the 'hot' zone - and selection fails. The only work-around I have found is to select a corner point of a window -which seems much less sensitive - and then drag the window border in either a vertical or horizontal direction, rather than diagonally. But this is counter-intuitive and unsatisfactory.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed 11.04 and was installing everything I wanted fine till I got to installing compiz. It installed fine and ran for a few minutes before my window borders disappeared entirely (see the attached screenshot). I've since tried running metacity --replace, but this makes unity disappear, so I'm left with my open windows only.
PS; I heard that there can be issues with ATI/AMD. Alas, that is my exact setup. I am urged to install proprietary drivers, but they fail to download.
i have ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition but im running the desktop edition and i was recently trying to use compiz but it didnt work so i uninstalled it.. then after rebooting, no apps have window borders and my cursor changed to an x.. when i press alt i can move the windows..

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have firefox 5 on my old box. But the border disappear regularly (in flwm). how to then minimize the window? (where firefox is). Perhaps there is a "ctrl something" for making appearing again the flwm border?
In the remaining time, I have to close firefox with "File Exit" when I want to start another programm or go into another window. I desinstalled/reinstalled firefox, then the border was again then and i could minimize/maximize the window..
I recently upgraded the motherboard/processor on my computer (as in quadrupled the processor and octupled the ram). The new board has a built in GPU (intel) and from searching the forums, I think this is part of the problem. Every time I boot up the computer, I need to open the Compiz icon and use it to reload the window manager before I see any title bars, borders, etc. 've tried the .bashrc hack (metacity --replace), but that doesn't do anything. In fact, whenever I open the terminal, I need to have two tabs open in order to use it, and when I close it all the borders go away again (even when I haven't done anything). Also, the onboard sound card (intel) doesn't work, but that's another task (I at least have a compatible card for that).

Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? This means that I get normal open window animation on these pull-down menus instead of the menu-theme. Inside the CompizConfig you can specify exactly which window types the different animations apply to, and you can use "grab" to probe your window for this info. My problem is that I can't "grab" the info for the pull-down, since it leaves "grab" mode once I try to open the menu (and grabs the info for the parent window instead of the menu). How do I get to know the window properties of the pull-downs, so that I can map them to the relevant window animation theme?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had issues with changing the pointer when compiz was active in ubuntu 10.10. it would not change when on the desktop, only when hovering over a window.I solved this issue by doing the following:
Hit alt f2 and enter-> gconf-editor
Then goto-> /->apps->compiz->general->allscreens->options
Then in "cursor_themes" type in the name of the pointer theme(Eg. DMZ-White)
This should resolve the issue with compiz.I am not going to go over that here.Oh yea don't forget to logout/login or press ALT F2 and enter compiz - -replace to refresh the pointer...
Has this feature been removed from the version of Compiz that comes with 10.04?I was running 9.10 for a few months and I configured a feature for zooming out windows into a kind of preview mode.I remember setting up a key combo and when I clicked on any window and pressed the combo, it would cycle between 2 preview sizes of around 25% and 10% and then back to it's normal size.I could drag a zoomed-out window around the desktop but obviously it would not be usable until it was restored to normal size.
The window contents would still update though and it was a great way of keeping an eye on many windows at once.I have looked at every single setting in CompizConfig Settings Manager but it's nowhere to be found and I really miss it!
I couldn't find a section for visual customization. Is it possible to make it so that windows not being used have a certain opacity, and windows being used have another? Also, how can you change the opacity of menus? I used to be able to do this, but it seems I've forgotten.

I was hoping someone could tell me how to turn off the basic windows effects in compiz but keep it turned on so I can use something like Docky.
The reason is because nautilus takes a few painful seconds to open up with the effects turned on and some times I end up clicking a folder etc a second time thinking it hasn't opened.
I have just upgraded from 10.04 -> 10.10 and my 'scale' plugin is not working properly in compiz (the rest works well).I do have the effect working with "super+a, super+w" , but "edge" does not work.I can modify values via gconf, I have: "initiate_all_edge" set to "BottomLeft" but this doesnt respond.The weirdest thing is that the compiz scale options part instead of giving me 4 tabs of options -> gives this.(image below) i tried reinstalling a few times & purge compiz + install back, but result remained the same.

Before, I could move windows between screens by pressen "Strg-Alt-Enter" (a shortcut I configured myself). Now that does not work anymore.
I remember configuring this shortcut somewhere in ccsm, but now I can not find it anymore.
I'm running Compiz with the Classic desktop in Ubuntu 11.04. I've noticed that doing the slightest thing will make the window decorations disappear...enabling desktop cube, clicking the menu icon in the titlebar, whatever. I'm running two GTX 570s (not in SLI), could this be an nvidia driver problem or something else?

(x86-64) What I did:installed my nvidia driver, enabled secondary screen (twinview) Installed some extra compiz plugins using aptitude. Tried to enable the desktop cube, and with that automatically disabling the desktop cube. And bang, no more window frames.. I tried with GTK window decorator and with emerald. It doesn't make any difference. Now I am running meta-city and emerald without any desktop effects.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe've all probably had this issue at one time or another.Window borders disappearing when Compiz is enabled. I'm on 10.04 with Intel GMA 4500M graphics. I would say about 30% of the time when I boot up the computer, I have no window borders. I use the Compiz Fusion icon just for this purpose, to reload the window manager and get back the window borders.Of course, the other 70% of the time the computer boots up with normal window borders. Is there a more permanent solution someone can provide than manually reloading the window manager on an as-needed basis?
