View 2 RepliesI don't know if I saw this minimize effect in ubuntu but definitely have seen it on other nix systems. It's basically a little button in the menu bar that when clicked, "minimizes" the window so that only the menubar shows.how to get it working on ubuntu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!
i am trying to deactivate the minimize plugin/effect of compiz. ccsm would not let me (the checkmark disappears a moment, then appears again).

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter having tried to fix the plymouth without any successfully result (i am meanning the thread i began few weeks ago and sited here: [URL]. I decided to keep nvidia's privates drives on giving up any hope to fix the plymouth bug and, right now, i would like to optimize or configurate the drivers properly like it is on Mandriva One 2010.
Perhaps someone is not exactly understand what i want to say. Well, i was using Mandriva One 2010 before installing Ubuntu Maverick and i have noticed there was no a low latency, lag effect, low performance or a lack of initial smooth and clean windows moves in Mandriva One 2010 but on Ubuntu there is.
This is very hard to explain for me, for example, If i use the "flip windows selector" (i mean, pressing "<Super>+Tab" keys) show me this effect too slow initially but if i forced the GPU for a while (repeating and pressing the keys), the lag effects vanished and then, the flip windows selector works nicely fast, clean and smooth. Now if i stop to use that effects, let the Nvidia GPU repose a while and use again the flip windows selector again, the lag effects come up again.
This fact does not just happen using the "flip windows selectos", any effects which minimize, resize or maxime the windows generate that annoying initial lag effects, for example, a simple minimize windows:
I am in despair with this, i do not if i have to do some change in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, what i have to configurate in the "Nvidia X server Settings" or in the "compiz manager settings" application.
Anyone knows a tutorial about how to optimize the Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu? or the Compiz effects to reduce the lag effets?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Lubuntu (from Ubuntu). I would like to add a few items to the right-click menu. I tried doing it using ObMenu as well as directly by editing the configuration files in /home/{user}/.config/openbox, but the default remains unchanged (even after reloading the configurations from the right-click menu or rebooting). Could someone give detailed instructions (e.g. where should I add some apps so as to see on the right click applications list?). The default on my right-click are a file manager, a browser and a terminal.
Also, I dont see a way to edit the main menu (the one at the lower left corner of my screen) anymore, although I remember to have accessed it from the main menu somewhere.
I've been trying to change some of the icons in my system. I first tried the GUI. This changed the icon in the start menu, on the panel, and on the desktop, but it doesn't change the icon in the left-hand corner of open windows or in the task bar in the panel. I then went in and did it manually by editing the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. Same thing...the icons in Openbox windows are the old ones. My guess is that Openbox is looking elsewhere for icons, but I dont really know.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want my Terminal to look transparent, just like this: [URL]
I tried to use xcompmgr with transset but
1) after doing "transset 0.35" and clicking on the Terminal-window, it only stays transparent for as long as I don't close it or reboot => its not permanent. Next time it's non-transparent again
2) the WHOLE window is transparent, even the title- and menubar! But I just want to have the black textarea be transparent (like in the pasted screenshot)
But it somehow seems to be possible, since the screenshot is also taken from an openbox environment.
After installing UNR, I found the unity interface to be lacking advanced features, support on forums and tweaks. So I installed the ubuntu desktop, but I kept maximus (and tweaked the list of apps which shouldn't be maximized, so I am pretty happy with maximus). Since netbooks aren't as fast, I wanted to get a more lightweight desktop environment. I started with replacing Metacity with Openbox (since it seems to be quite popular). I noticed that after logging in my memory usage was 186 MB and 189 MB after running ubuntu tweak, for both window managers. If Openbox would be as lightweight as it claims to be I find it rather strange that I don't notice any difference in memory usage. (about my "test": I changed the default window manager using ubuntu tweak, logged out and logged back in to start a new session, opened system monitor to measure memory usage)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI ran ubuntu 10.04 for about half a year now-but rarely logged into it. Recently, I wiped ubuntu 10.04 and installed lubuntu 11.04 with the intentions of ditching open box/lxde and just installing fluxbox. However, I like openbox/lxde combo a LOT so I'mma gonna keep it. My question is: I would like to be able to do one of two things: Either ctrl+alt+del to lock the workstation when I leave it OR have a window popup up with lock desktop/log-out/restart/shutdown options listed. I am familair with installing applications on linux and can use google fairly well so if someone knows a way to do the second option(preferable) and can get me off in the right direction about what pckgs I'd need that would be great! Thanks. John PS: there is a button like this by default on lubuntu 11.04 but it has NO lock desktop option on it.
