View 1 RepliesI've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!
I don't know if I saw this minimize effect in ubuntu but definitely have seen it on other nix systems. It's basically a little button in the menu bar that when clicked, "minimizes" the window so that only the menubar shows.how to get it working on ubuntu.

Using Compiz's animation plugin, only the open and close effects work. When any entries are listed under the "Animation Selection" for Minimize, Focus, or Shade; the animations do not play; and I receive a libnotify error: "Animation settings mismatch in 'Animation Selection' list for __<Minimize or Focus or Shade>___ event."This happens even with the Animation Selection values reset and even the entire Animation configuration reset. I use the Gconf backend, but this also occurs with a file-based configuration. This has never worked for me.

I just updated my distribution to 11.3 from 11.2. But now this problem occurs when I try to play an mp3. There was no problem before with 11.2.
It also says
Code:
The following plugin is required : MPEG-4 AAC decoder
Only certain mp3s have this problem. All gstreamer packages have been installed. What package is missing anyway?
How to enable wooby effect (compiz desktop effect like ubuntu) in fedora 15.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNew 11.3 install and working the wiggles out one at a time. If I minimize a window on the desktop it just disappears. Any and all open windows. Can't figure out how to maximize it again. They still active somewhere because I have to kill it (crtl / esc / kill process) to close Firefox and any other windows regardless of the application. Where are they going and how I do I modify this behavior

View 2 Replies View Related1. The resolution change (from 1024*768 to 1680*1050)could not be saved to /etc/X11/xorg.conf2. After I manually changed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf, it could not take effect when I restart my suse. On restarting, it firstly 1680*1050, then jump back to 1024*768.How I resolved it: 1. When click "Save to X configuration", save the xorg.conf to user directory, then manually copy it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf using root privilege. (sudo cp ...) 2. change the resolution to 1680*1050 in nvdia-settings, then click "apply", after it takes effect, go to "control center" - "display", you will find the resolution here has been changed to 1680*1050, then press apply, restart suse, you get 1680*1050.Some details:(1) I have a nvdia GeForce 6150SE on board video card, and suse11.2(2) I installed nvdia driver through NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to turn off CPU throttling, and I notice how each time opensuse boots up, it imposes it.
I would like to know where it does this. I suspect - but actually I don't really know - if it's the HAL daemon that does this. Could be.
In any case, rather than have to key it in each time, I put the relevant commands (cpufreq-set) in boot.local. No effect.
I suspect boot.local might not be the best place for such a heavy duty command like this one.
Are there any there places I could put it so that it executes automatically?
i want to deactivate disk encryption. How can i do that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust installed openSUSE 11.4 which comes with KDE 4.5. It has taken a while for me to find my way around and I am still trying to change settings so that VLC is default multimedia app rather than Amarok or similar. how to turn off the jerky dimming effect which was being applied when I close a window. Out of interest does anybody know what memory and cpu overhead these effect costs and how many lines of code? More to the point does anybody know who needs them?
When using Dolphin with column view does anybody know how to have the left margin shown rather than the right. As it is now, with long files names, the right hand end of the filename is shown and to see the directories I have to use a slider to scroll back to the left. I do not recall this being the case before. It used to be that the long file name was cut off unless one scrolled. In that way you could see all the directories and when moving files life was simple. Now this is not the case and actions take longer.
When I first installed openSUSE 11.2, it has no xorg.conf of course, but it detected the subject card and loaded radeon instead of radeonhd. When I used Sax2 to create an xorg.conf for a problem, I noticed that it for the device it created:
[Code]....
When I rebooted with this xorg.conf, lsmod says that it's still radeon that is loaded:
[Code]...
I know that radeonhd does cause some issues with KDE desktop effects, but according to Radeon - openSUSE, the cards above X1900 should be using radeonhd. Instead of either of these, should I try to use the ATI driver fglrx? It seems from my gleaning of forum posts that these have some problems, but I am having some desktop effect issues that maybe would be addressed with that driver.
I've been searching the in User CP an option to deactivate/delete my account without any success.

View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing gnome I love the desktop effects, except the 'maximize window' effect. There is an annoying delay when I maximize a window. Is there a way to turn this particular effect off, while leaving all the others on. I looked in control center>desktop effects, but the option is not there. The only way I could turn off the maximize effect was unchecking the "enable desktop effects" checkbox. But this turns all effects off. All other effects run smooth and snappy.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe specs on my Pavilion DV6 says it has a 5650 Radeon HD card.lspci shows:01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200]02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon HD 5600 Series] (rev ff)TWO cards? Currently the first one shows up in the system information but, knowing it has a 5600 series card,I'm guessing the laptop has a cheaper model with a 4200 integrated card where mine has a 5650 added...thus both showing up. I need to figure out a way to ignore the 4200 card and use the second.
Both drivers are contained in the same package from Radeon. The system information shows VESA:M880G as the driver. How do I go about blacklisting the M880G driver so the other one ('Redwood', guessing from the content of the lspci output) can be loaded?Or am I completely wrong about what needs to happen here? I do not see anywhere in the bios where I can deactivate the 4200 chip.[edit] After checking the specs on the laptop (and it's other derivates), i twould seem that there is no 4200 series card on any of the cheaper machines....no sure hwat gives. I've downloaded some stuff on X and see if I can create a xorg.conf that will load the appropriate driver.
I'm likely going to remove the akmod proprietary drivers and go with the open source 'radeon' for a while to see how it goes.[/edit]EDIT 2:The thing thats going on here is 'hybrid graphics' which I had heard of in desktop but didn't realize that it was in laptops. There is currently work going on to get the configuration working properly. The 4200 card is supposed to run when on batteries and switching automatically to the 5650 when the power is plugged in.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to "Leave" the system (either via the small button on the lower right of the taskbar or by right clicking on the Desktop and selecting "Leave") the logout / shutdown / restart screen comes up. I have the "Logout" desktop effect activated, which is supposed to desaturated the background when the Leave screen appears. However, instead of simply greying out the background, the image on the desktop and the rest of the screen also gets slightly distorted, with seemingly random distortion effects cropping up all over the place (e.g. horizontal lines or large blurs).
These distortions are different every time the Leave screen comes up. The Leave screen itself is displayed fine, and apart from the dodgy background I have no other issues with the whole process (the system shuts down or restarts properly according to my choice). I am using the Radeon drivers, and all other desktop effects I have on (Magic lamb, cover switch, present windows, etc) work fine and without a hitch. It's only the Logout effect that seems to glitch. Are the distortions intentionally created by the effect in order to emphasize the focus on the Leave screen?
I'm setting up a server on a Cloud Server hosting service. When they installed Ubuntu 10.04, they set it up with "root" access. Meaning they created an account called "root" and gave us a password to log in.Of course, I immediately created the admin (sudo) accounts for myself and the other administrator. However, being that we are most familiar with installing 8.04 LTS server on our own hardware, and thus set it up without root, we don't quite know how to get rid of the 'root' login, yet preserve the ability for our scripts and software to still run with root permissions.
