Mar 26, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 CLI with Openbox as the WM on my Dell laptop. I installed gnome-power-manager because I like to suspend my laptop when the lid is closed. When the close the lid and reopen it, the screen is black and the computer never suspends. This happens regardless of whether or not gnome-power-manger is running is the background.

May 23, 2011When my .xinitrc contains exec /usr/bin/openbox-session My displays will turn off like there is no video output. I cannot switch to a TTY (or at least there is still no video when I try). I can however ssh into the machine. Alt+SysRq+K does not seem to kill the X session, but Alt+SysRq+B will reboot the machine.When my .xinitrc contains exec /usr/bin/openbox and I manually run sh .config/openbox/autostart.sh everything seems to go smoothly. I really don't understand the discrepancy.

But some kind of KDE stuff overrides it and sets default again after few seconds. I can override it again with manual command. How can I set wallpaper then in openbox in proper way?

I've tried everything to have this key sequenced passed to Eclipse under Openbox, but it seems Openbox is taking itI've tried commenting out all the C-A-Up settings in rc.xml, but that doesn't seem to work. How to configure Openbox (or whomever) to pass the sequence on to the application?

Jun 16, 2011I'm fairly used to working with Fluxbox.There,if I want to let myself suspend the computer, all I have to do is add something like Code:[exec] (suspend) {sudo /usr/sbin/pm-suspend}to my .fluxbox/menu and it works like a charm, after having added me to the sudoers. I nstalled openbox earlier today because I was having some font rendering issues in flux and I've been trying to find a way to add something similar to my menu without success. Aug 4, 2011I have just installed Lubuntu (from Ubuntu). I would like to add a few items to the right-click menu. I tried doing it using ObMenu as well as directly by editing the configuration files in /home/{user}/.config/openbox, but the default remains unchanged (even after reloading the configurations from the right-click menu or rebooting). Could someone give detailed instructions (e.g. where should I add some apps so as to see on the right click applications list?). The default on my right-click are a file manager, a browser and a terminal.
Also, I dont see a way to edit the main menu (the one at the lower left corner of my screen) anymore, although I remember to have accessed it from the main menu somewhere.

Aug 7, 2011I've been trying to change some of the icons in my system. I first tried the GUI. This changed the icon in the start menu, on the panel, and on the desktop, but it doesn't change the icon in the left-hand corner of open windows or in the task bar in the panel. I then went in and did it manually by editing the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. Same thing...the icons in Openbox windows are the old ones. My guess is that Openbox is looking elsewhere for icons, but I dont really know.

When right clicking my screen I get an error stating that I am missing root-menu. I cannot open terminal while inside openbox.
