General :: Get Alternative Minimize Effect In Ubuntu?
Apr 19, 2011
I don't know if I saw this minimize effect in ubuntu but definitely have seen it on other nix systems. It's basically a little button in the menu bar that when clicked, "minimizes" the window so that only the menubar shows.how to get it working on ubuntu.
I've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!
I have upgraded to 10.4 and and after try to install mac look in ubuntu. My screen start flickering, I found it this due to in system => preference => appearance => effect become no effect automatically (as each and every time I select extra effect)After some time.for changing this setting i need to turn off the computer and restart then after i can do it i.e. change effect to extra effect. Its done after following installation
i got driver and when i install driver and reboot computer I got just terminal and when I type startx I get error FLGRX and sam log file or something like that.
instruction i found here but some comands didn't worked openSUSE Lizards
I have Ubuntu Server 10.04 TLS installed on a Virtual Machine in a VirtualBox. The size of the Hard Drive is dynamic growing hard drive and the maximum is 32GB. At the beginning I had 4GB on the Hard Drive and the size of the .vdi was 4GB. Lately the size of data on the disk is 15GB but the size of the .vdi is almost 32GB. Why is that? How can I pack / optimize / defrag the HD so it will be the same size of the data on the disk?
In Ubuntu some applications can be set to minimize instead of exit on close. For example, Empathy minimizes to the system tray (mail icon) when the close button is pressed in the application window. How do I make Evolution do this as well?
Essentially I would like to have Evolution hidden in the system tray instead of having to re-launch it every ten minutes to check for new messages (or leave it open and clutter the taskbar).
I have Solaris at my workplace. Currently Esm was configured. It's listing conflicting configurations against policy standards. Few of them are like usrid's/guid's of users are below 100 so I am planning to change it above 100. For eg. I have ops id for an operations team.If I change uid and group id of this particular user/group, do I have to just find files of that particular users/groups ownership and change it accordingly.Or else something elese I have to do. Will it affect any running applications owned by user/group whose ID I am going to change. Also there are few ids owned by applications whose secondary gid is 0, how do I proceed with those, as its very risky to change in prod environment.
I'm having problem in Ubuntu 10.04 in applying extra graphics effect.I thing I have done some wrong setting in compiz setting manager and now I'm not able to set to default.Whenever now I'm trying to apply extra effects from appearance window it shows Desktop effects could not be enabled.
Window is full-screen and grabs everything.New windows are appearing behind it.I cannot just kill that application.I'm logged in as root remotely through the SSH.Expecting something like that:
Currently the terminal prompt looks like this:[karlis@karlis-desktop current_folder]$How can I minimize the prompt, so that it only shows $ or # without extra info in square brackets?I checked the preferences for the default Gnome-Terminal and Terminator - there are no settings for this. It is pretty hard to use terminal when working in directories with long names.
I have 2 Oracle users that generate .tmp files under /var/tmp. By default, the files have the permissions 644. Now, a need has arisen whereby the files created by these users have to have the permission bits as 664. Obviously, I changed the UMASK value for these users from 022 to 02. But the files are still getting created with 644 as the permission.
I tried restarting the application as I read that a relogin is required for the UMASK change to take effect. Even that hasn't helped.
drw-rw-rw- 2 owner developers 4096 Jun 24 15:13 models
these were set with
sudo chmod -R 0666 *
My user has developers as the primary group (the same group as the file), but I cannot access the directory via the terminal or ftp.
[myUser@machine]$ id myUser uid=503(myUser) gid=505(developers) groups=505(developers) $ cd models -bash: cd: models: Permission denied
I had the same problem before the directory belonged to my group, and I even went so far as to restart the server, without any luck. How do I set permissions to this directory so that I and other members of the group developers can access it?
My system (CentOs5.3) became erratic after i tried to change wholesale the ownership of the /FS. is it possible to change ownership or rwx permissions of files in linux? what is the safeguard available to preserve the consistency of the program files in linux against such an attempt by su?
desktop effect is disabled after reboot after reboot and go to : system->prefer->desktop effect , the box show the enable desktop effect button already clicked ! but no effect .i use F11 ,and the lspci shows:
How to switch the close, maximize, minimize to right side the window in Ubuntu10.04. I found a way in www.makeuseof.com but that does not work.Run Applic.->gconf-editor->apps/metacity/general->menu:maximize,minimize,close.
I have pc/os linux 2009 installed and I recently got the following message while trying to boot up my system:
*checking root file system...fsck 1.41.4 (27-Jan-2009) dev/sda1 contains a file system with errors, check forced. /dev/sda1:Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found. /dev/sda1:Unexpected inconsistency;run fsck manually. (i.e., without -a or -p options) fsck died with exit status 4
*An automatic file system check (fsck) of the root filesystem failed. A manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted. The fsck should be performed in maintenance mode with the root filesystem mounted in read-only mode.
*The root filesystem is currently mounted in read-only mode. A maintenance shell will now be started. after performing system maintenance press Control-D to terminate the maintenance shell and restart the system.
Give root password for maintenance:
The problem is, when I enter my password I get an incorrect password prompt. How can I change my password so that a manual fsck can start? Why did this message error message appear in the first place?
Looking to get some input on finding a distribution to move to from Ubuntu.Overall, there's some changes--mostly unimportant overall, but stick in my craw--on the horizon, and I'm looking for alternatives. I'm a casual user, only one using my machine, don't need anything extra-special...something that isn't extremely utilitarian from the get-go, and doesn't come loaded with a boatload of things I'll never use. I enjoy putzing around in a CLI, and I'm not opposed to having to get used to slightly different commands when using it (though I expect that, on the whole, most things will be the same).I know, a little vague on what I'm looking for...best put, a stable system that doesn't require me to do TOO much, but lets me do what I want even if it means breaking things every once in a while.
Can anyone recommend a good alternative to uTorrent to run on Ubuntu 11.04? I've tried running two versions of uTorrent in wine and the result were less than impressive to say the least. I also downloaded uTorrent for linux from there site but can't get either package manager to see or access the .tar.gz archive or any extracted files?
Windows close and minimize buttons have disappeared in Genome. In other desktops like KDE and cfxe they are present BUT I am using Gnome. My distro is Ubuntu ultimate 2.7 64bit.
I want to set my editor's font as Monaco-11, but it has no anti-aliasing effect. And when I set it to Monaco-12, anti-aliasing effect works. How can I make it also work for Monaco-11? I'm using Ubuntu 9.10
I want to look into disabling things like chargen, chargen-udp, daytime, daytime-udp, echo etc...I have found a manual at:which points me towards the xinetd.conf file. I cant seem to find it, im using ubuntu 8.10 LTS. Should I be looking else where?
