Ubuntu :: Open Documents In Openoffice 3.2.1 In Tabs Instead Of Multiple Windows
Jan 19, 2011
i have a macbook pro with snow leopard 1.6.6 (its Unix based don't look me like that ). my question is about an linux software so thats why i'm asking here (on mac forums nobody answered me) I wanna know that how i can open documents in openoffice 3.2.1 in tabs instead of multiple windows ... (like firefox ?
I have a problem with regards to opening the open office. every time I open a document, I cannot view it. It says the application cannot be started. The user interface language cannot be determined. What's the possible cause on this? How will i correct this error?
I am using ubuntu 10.10. I am practicing for my CCIE. I need to do the following just to speed up myself :-)In ubuntu, while i am in gui (gnome) i want to do the following1) open a terminal window2) open 13 tabs (the ones that we open using ctrl+shift+t)3) on tab1, execute -> telnet 127.0.0.1 20014) on tab2, execute -> telnet 127.0.0.1 20025) so on till telnet 127.0.0.1 2013
I can access my windows my documentsmusic by mounting my windows drive and browsing to it. I can then playwatch my movies and pics in Ubuntu. But what I really want to be able to do is re-map the Ubunbu docs folder like so:
Ubuntu Pics = Windows My Documents pics. Ubuntu Videos = Windows My Documents Videos.
I'm not very unix savy so I've been using Ubuntu tweak PersonalDefault Folder Locations setting and browsing to my Windows folders. But it doesn't work.I have managed to make a desktop 'short cut' and that works but I'd rather set the system wide default document folders.
When I tried to open a doc file using openoffice in windows and centos, the same got displayed differently, as attached. Does anyone know what the issue is related to and a fix for this ?
Thoroughly repeatably, OpenOffice locks up on me when scrolling inside documents. Here's the breakdown:
* Only happens when actively in the process of scrolling * Doesn't matter if you use keyboard, mouse wheel, drag the scroll bar, or click the scroll arrows * Always happens within 15 minutes of steady use * Happens in both writer and calc -- haven't tested the others * OOo freezes up and no longer repaints the window or responds to anything * gnome-session peaks out at 100% CPU and stays there * Currently running application continue to work fine * Most applications (gnome-terminal, firefox, koffice) can no longer be launched * Some applications (abiword) can still be launched * Launching from icons brings up the spinner, but nothing else happens * Launching a GUI app from a terminal, it looks like it runs on CLI, but nothing ever happens in the GUI proper * X starts leaking descriptors and thus chewing up drive space at ~1M/s
Killing X and bringing up a new session puts everything back to normal, including CPU usage and drive space. This happens every time on my 64-bit Intel laptop and has persisted through several X/OpenOffice/kernel updates. It never happens on my 32-bit Intel desktop.
Whenever, I successfully save a new document, the document's icon does not display in the KDE File Dialog until OpenOffice restarts. The document exists, because trying to do a "Save As" on it produces a dialog that states if one wants to overwrite the document. Also, trying to export a PDF twice has the same outcome.

Are any of you experiencing freeze ups on trying to close Mozilla when you have multiple tabs open? A window appears, saying 'Do you wish to save the open tabs' and that is the last thing the computer does.
I use Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-25-generic kernel After I did some automatic updates, in my Openoffice documets page numbers and other references are destroyed. Example, only "pagenumber" is written instead of page number.
In M$ Word, if you press Alt+X, the letter behind the cursor will become a Unicode hexadecimal string. Where is that functionality in OpenOffice.org Writer?
I'm still having trouble with the computer freezing if I try to close Mozilla-Firefox with multiple tabs open. (and I often forget to close them individually)Is there a solution to this?
I am trying to change the current association for MS word documents from Kword to openoffice. I guess I'm following closely the indicated step in the manual, i.e.: ~ xdg-mime default openoffice.org-writer.desktop application/msword but when I check it I get this: ~ xdg-mime query default application/msword kword.desktop
I'm running Iceweasel (amd64 architecture) version 4.0.1 on Debian Wheezy/Sid/Experimental.My problem is getting Iceweasel to restore saved multilple tables when restarting it. I have done all the obvious things like setting the browser.tabs.warnOnClose, ...warnOnOpen, browser.warnOnRestart, ...warnOnQuit to TRUE. I get a dialogue box when I exit asking if I want to restore my tabs when I restart and I click "Save and Quit" but then when I do restart... no tabs
I sometimes have two similar files that one works and one doesn't. I would like to compare the differences. But TEXT EDITOR opens two files in two tabs making it impossible to compare the data side by side.
Is there a way to make Text editor open a separate window for each file? Browsers usually have such an option to choose multiple windows or tabs but I can't find away to do this with Text editor.
I want to edit a text file and have it open twice so I can edit different sections without scrolling back and forth. I can do this in Kwrite and Kate but have to have two windows open. Is there a way to do this but with tabs?
I have Ubuntu 10.10. I have installed VLC video player. When I go to places, and then hit Documents, or(music, pictures, downloads). It will open the VLC player with a pop up error.
Error Message when I hit Documents: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
Error Message when I hit pictures: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
No error message when I hit music: But it open's up the same song all the time.
No error message when I hit video: I just opens up like it's suppose to!
I was trying to make it my default player. All I did was right mouse click on my folders, but I remember selecting anything!
When I un-install VLC player everything works fine.
Is it possible to open text files in gvim in tabs not opening anothe rgvim window for every text file? Just like it is done in gedit: open a file the open another file and it opens in a tab.
Every time I boot up ubuntu I usually open 3 terminal windows and ssh into the same server. I would like to either click a shortcut, or run a single terminal command that will do the equivalent.
I came across the "gnome-terminal" command, but I was unable to get it to trigger an ssh command.
Ideally I would like to have a script that I pass in the number of windows I want to open and the server I would like to ssh into for each window.
I have recently dual booted an Old Toshiba laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) It was recommended to me by a friend after XP was becoming unstable. To the Problem : I have downloaded Chromium as the web browser as I am not a fan of Firefox, but every time I launch Chromium... It launches into a random work space and not the one I am working in.. So I cannot open multiple Chromium windows.. So to find where it has launched it, I have to click work space switcher and find it.. If I click Maximise, instead of maximizing it to the work space limits... it makes it go over 2 seperate work spaces..
I am trying to write a bash script to open 1 screen session with multiple windows... each one running a different service. Is this possible? I tried several things, and I can start up multiple sessions really easy.. but not 1 session with multiple windows...
I want this so I can attach to that session and quickly move between the different windows.
My needs require the ability to scan multiple documents each day. Ever since 10.04 my HP J4580 All-in-One scanner operation has progressively become worse. With 10.10 it completely quit working. As is so often the case, the HP J4580 All-in-One works flawlessly in Windows so I know it is strictly a Ubuntu related problem. Do a search of my threads and you will see that I have receive very little help with this issue. that is another problem I have been having.I have reverted back to 9.10 and all my scanning issues are resolved. I have followed several threads offering solutions with no success. I know the issue is with the removal of xsane from Ubuntu. Versions after xsane 0.996 is when the problem surfaced. On my system (desktop) I have been greatly disappointed with the last 2 releases. Firefox has even started having random crashes in 10.10. I tire of spending so much time trying to correct these issues.I will not quit using Ubuntu but I will not be using the latest two releases for a while. 9.10 worked great and I will keep it until support ends. You get what you pay for so I will not blast Canonical or the software developers. I would hope that prior working hardware would not lose functionality with the release of a new OS version.
I'm having sporadic issues with the openoffice.org program. Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.
I want to do search and replace in multiple files. I've seen that it possible to create a sed script but I haven't got the talent to do it myselfWhatd is to locate all instances of a word - lets say 'day' - and replace it with for example 'night' in all odm-documents in a specific folder. It would be great if the search only matched whole words and was case sensitive.
