I'm running Iceweasel (amd64 architecture) version 4.0.1 on Debian Wheezy/Sid/Experimental.My problem is getting Iceweasel to restore saved multilple tables when restarting it. I have done all the obvious things like setting the browser.tabs.warnOnClose, ...warnOnOpen, browser.warnOnRestart, ...warnOnQuit to TRUE. I get a dialogue box when I exit asking if I want to restore my tabs when I restart and I click "Save and Quit" but then when I do restart... no tabs

Are any of you experiencing freeze ups on trying to close Mozilla when you have multiple tabs open? A window appears, saying 'Do you wish to save the open tabs' and that is the last thing the computer does.

I would like to know how or if there is a how to guide on setting up konsole in KDE to display the server name you are logged into.
Also, how can I set up tabs to open using my ssh_key passphrase without having to enter it in everytime.
In Fedora there is a utility that caches your ssh_passphrase for a limited amount of time, is there a utility like that in Centos?

Firefox is sometimes slow opening new tabs/switching between tabs. If I click on the kickoff application launcher button, it takes a few seconds to open, and typing something in the search makes it hang up for about 20 seconds before it does the search. Clicking on an app takes 16 seconds before the menu window closes and the program begins to start. Then it takes another 30sec-1min before the app is usable. smplayer plays video with tearing.
Like right now I tried taking a screenshot, and it tells me
Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksnapshot.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application.
while the app worked fine.
I also tried running glxgears right now, and it runs but the gears don't move, and terminal states
15 frames in 19.0 seconds = 0.789 FPS
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 48 requests (48 known processed) with 15 events remaining.
If I'm on dolphin, and I click a video to start smplayer, it takes about 1 minute for it to start.
Memory is using 1.4GB out of 3.6GB, with 0.08GB/2GB swap
Top shows an average usage of less than 10% average. Xorg is always 25%, kwin is always 10% and then rest of the apps are less than that.
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor
Integrated VIdeo: HD4200 with fglrx driver
When I ssh into the computer with x tunneling, the programs start up faster than being on the desktop

I'm running Ubuntu Server 9.10. I have two external USB HDDs. I use them each for different backup reasons. So certain data gets stored on one HDD, and different information gets stored on the other HDD.
I want to make a script that can look at the external HDD can determine which HDD it is, so that it can copy the proper information to it. Is there a way for Linux to determine this? Like if I see one HDD as /dev/sdc1, then unplug it and plug in the other HDD, should Linux see it as /dev/sdd1 or will it be /dev/sdc1?
I don't quite understand how it determines the /dev/sdxx values that it assigns to drives.

I just moved to Fedora 11 from Ubuntu and I am very happy, not even thinking to go back to Ubuntu (because of gma500 driver support). How can I clean up Fedora? On Ubuntu I could go to Synaptics, remove Installed (not residetial) packages, I coud use terminal sudo autoremove, autoclean, clean. On Fedora I found out only one so far: yum clean all. Is there anything else I should now, can you share with me how you are cleaning up your Fedora? Second thing, which is not only related to Fedora, is there any chance to make Epiphany remeber tabs after I close the browser and open it again? Don't really want to use any other browser.

I have a netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Edition and I would like a USB flash drive to be automatically mounted whenever I plug it in. The drive is FAT formatted. It mounts when I plug it in but all files are only writable by my user, other users only have read access. I understand that I need to add a corresponding entry to the /etc/fstab file. I've added the following so far:/dev/sdb1 /mnt/USB_DRIVE vfat
Firstly, is that appropriate so far? I've created /mnt/USB_DRIVE as root. Next, I'm not sure what options I should be finishing the line with, especially to get all users to be able to write to the drive.

Normally when a program is open an entry is placed on the taskbar in order to easily find it, which is useful when a lot of programs are open. In Ubuntu 10.04, when I moved a program to the other monitor (I'm using 2 monitors) the taskbar entry also moves to the taskbar on that monitor.
Now I switched over to Ultimate Edition, which is Ubuntu 10.04 with a lot of stuff added to it. When I drag a program to the other monitor, the entry in the taskbar disappears, but it does not reappear in the taskbar of the other monitor. So now the only way for me to find a program on this monitor if its hidden behind other windows is to use alt-tab.

I've been tasked with setting up a wall board display monitor for our monitoring applications and it's got to look good! I was hoping to use opensuse 11.4 & the KDE desktop effect of the cube and I'm trying to find a way to make the screens rotate in a timed manner.
Is this possible and if not can anyone suggest a good way to switch between multiple displays automatically?

I have a laptop that I use in three environments with different monitor setups.
1) At work, I have a 1280x1024 second monitor.
2) At home, I have a 1920x1080 second monitor.
3) In meetings and other places I have no second monitor.
Whenever I switch between these setups, which is at least several times each day, I have to manually change the monitor configuration. I use the nvidia-settings tools.
Granted, it only takes a few seconds. Is there a way to make the system smart enough to automatically detect when a monitor is added or removed, know *which* monitor is attached, and reconfigure the resolution and monitor layouts the way I want them?

Newbie question here. I just realized that I can tell make to use multiple cores to compile by doing PHP Code:makewhich is just awesome on a quad core with hyperthreading (I just compiled 2.6.33-rc5 in under 5 minutes!) I know aliases are possible, though I've never had much need. What I would like to know now, is if it would be safe to alias make to mean PHP Code:so that by default I use 6 of the procesors when building or if there would be occasions that compiling on multiple processors would be a bad thing

Adobe Reader is the best, but it's so resource heavy. It takes almost 10% of my 8GB ram. Evince has trouble with highlighting text and does not support tabs. Foxit Reader for Linux does not support tabs. Any assistance in choosing an appropriate PDF viewer that supports these features on Linux and isn't too resource intensive?
