Apr 13, 2011
I usually have a system indicator and desktop switcher (to see which desktop I am working on) in my panel (in previous ubuntu releases). I really like the unity interface of the 11.04 betta but I want to have these applet in my panel is there a way to have it? since there is no option which says add to panel in 11.04.

I changed the language on my 10.04 install to Canadian English, but now I have this icon in the Gnome panel that allows me to switch from USA to Can. I live in "Can" so have no need to see it displayed and have no interest in using American English so I have no desire to see that displayed. How can I have the system speak Canadian English and only that with no button on the panel letting me know what language I'm using?
Here is an image displaying what I mean:

I want rid of that and I want to remain using Canadian English.

In the past one bug appereared to me several times (using 10.04 and 10.10, too) but I still cannot reproduce it in order to file it. After logging into Ubuntu or just while usnig Ubuntu a small gap appears at the indicator sector of the gnome panel. Did anyone else see this happening and can reproduce it? It's not a big thing but still it influences a smooth user expeience, in my opinion.

I accidentally removed the wireless internet indicator from my panel. I looked up the problem and the best I have come up with is how to get it back TEMPORARILY, using terminal. When I type in "nm-applet", in terminal, it brings it back, but if I close terminal, it disappears with it. So, I have to essentially keep the terminal window, or lose the internet. It blows my mind that such a simple thing is taking so much effort and inquiry.

I'm frequently running out of disk space and would like to add a notification as to how much disk space I have to the panel. All I need is basically a little area, stating 1.5GB or 375.5MB on one of the panels.

I feel little silly asking this, I accidently removed from my gnome panel my internet connection, volume control and battery indicator on F11. how can I add this back. It does not show up in the add to panel menu and the applications do not give you back the default feel.

i've just installed openSUSE 11.3 on my dell studio xps 1640. but i have problem with my WLAN . it's a WLAN 1640 mini-card and i think there is no problem with driver. because it seems that it's installed correctly but i can't see any wireless networks (it says "Device is not ready"). is there any suggestions?by the way, when i turn my wireless to on (it's a touch key not a switch) only my bluetooth indicator is enabled not my wifi indicator.

My problem is that in the System Tray, my Wifi indicator won't move. It is stuck to the upper-right hand corner. When I right-click on it, there is no "Move" option. I provided a picture to show where it's stuck.
I am using Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit with a GNOME Environment.

About Unity on 11.041. How do i change the size of the icons in the left panel (Laucher)? I only get 9 button-icones on my little screen.2. Is it possible to see system load and so on, as 'System monitor'-applet in gnome?3. Is it possible to hide the upper panel to save space? Let it show when hovering with the mouse cursor, when you already should be in the upper area?

After a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10 I uninstalled empathy (im using skype). The empathy menu in the evolution indicator was gone after that.I also uninstalled gwibber. But the gwibber status indicator remains within the about-me panel... Uninstalling the gwibber package also removes the me-menu which I want to keep actually. Especially the shutdown/restart... part of it. See attachment.I know there is a shutdown panel-app...but its butt-ugly and it doesnt allow to logon/off.
In another thread I read that the gwibber status shouldnt be there if no account for it is configured... which it is not... I do use ubuntu-one though which is in the same menu... I saw that this issue was addressed at some bug report before, but not fixed yet...
Does anybody know a good workaround to get rid of the gwibber status in the panel while keeping the about me and the shutdown button?

In my top right corner I got all my Ubuntu appindicators that come with Ubuntu 11.04. I also have Dropbox, caffeine and screenlets. Problem is that I cant click on dropbox, caffeine, battery indicator, wlan or sound indicator until I first click on messages menu and slide over to appindicator that I need. When screenlets appindicator is not present there is no problem. Its the same when I had Jupiter installed.

I thought I was removing the chat status piece of the indicator applet (I know what it is now, didn't then), but I accidentally removed the whole thing. Now when I figured out how to put it back on the panel, I can't get it back to where it was (which was to the RIGHT of the system date/time applet). How can I do this as well as move the indicator applet that has the volume control in it?

I've just installed the xubuntu GUI on my ubuntu server and by default I only see Applications and Places on my top panel. There is no option to add the system menu under "Add new items", so I'm curious as to how to go about it.
On a side note, is there a way I can have the system boot into the original command prompt by default, and how can I enable and disable the GUI at my convenience?

I removed my main panel this morning, which meant I lost all the launcher icons like the Terminal, places, system, etc. I right-clicked and selected New Panel, but when I select Add to Panel, it doesn't offer me the ability to put these items back on. The list included Clock, Weather, Garbage and Desktop, but doesn't include the others. I can't relaunch the Terminal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as without terminal or application access, obviously the my system functionality is pretty limited.

I don't know if this is the result of an upgrade, software conflict or I did something I shouldn't have without even noticing. I was able to "Add" the main GNOME menu back by right clicking on the menu, etc. Now, Places and System are sub-menus of the main system menu.

I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 for some time but as its no longer supported, I need to consider my options. One of the things I really liked was the panel shortcuts to Applications, Places and System.
I am considering installing latest Debian but see that "System" is not included in the panel. So my question is can this be added?

I followed some badly-spelled online instructions to get rid of the last panel (because I'm using Avant Window Navigator instead), which had me do this: Ok some people realize that the gnome panel in ubuntu is very annoying and if your like me you dont want it there anymore, so you wnat to get rid of it (only suggested if you have something like AWN ), ok first push alt+f2, then in that type gconf-editor inside of it. Now in that a box should apear. Click on apps, thenGnome, then session, then required sessions. Then there should be a file called gnome -panel right click it then choose edit, then make it empty. then save it press ctrl+alt+delete, then it should not be there but if it is run killallgnome-panel, and to run it again type in gnome-panel. I did it, and now I cannot startup. ( I just get a 'busy' cursor on a blank screen.)

A couple of months ago I (naively) installed Python 2.6.2 to my system without using an RPM. Then recently I tried to run the Display panel (/usr/bin/system-config-display) and it never opened.I then used it from the command line and after realizing it was a Python problem I spent some time trying to eliminate the python conflict by removing 2.6 and reinstalling all the python related RPMs from URL..Searching online one of the things I have found is to recompile python with UCS4 support though that seems to go against the idea of using an rpm as I understand it and I would assume it has been compiled as needed for CentOS.

Whether it is just made unconfigurable or difficult to configure I don't like it. Can't move the panel from top to bottom, Firefox did not have pull down menus for bookmarks etc. Where the did the Application ,Places and System panel menus go? In 10.10 and before I could right click on the desk top and add to the panel but, 11.04 does not even respond to right click. If this is a bug that has a fix please help but if this is normal for 11.04.please let me know how I can make 10.10 the default partition to boot.
