View 2 RepliesI've just read this thread: [URL] and the information it seems is a bit out of date and a risk to use. I felt more comfortable with the .gtkrc-2.0 file suggested a few posts in, but it doesn't work, in that it turns the panel to the Raleigh-themed one which we always get when there's some kind of error in a gtkrc file, as those of us that have dabbled in theming will know.
It's comical that this minor but unnecessary eyesore goes back so far and hasn't been dealt with, but is there any new info about this, a new method, for 10.10? I don't want to be doing compiling or to risk messing things up, as has been caused by the directions in the other thread, because I've been experimenting with different distros for two years, just bought a new hard drive, and have settled now.
Maybe someone here knows why the .gtkrc-2.0 file hasn't worked for me? I twigged that the panel (though not the rest of the theme, i.e. in program windows) had turned to Raleigh because of those ugly handles pertaining to the Window List panel applet and the one to the left of the notification area. I used the exact file in that other thread, I tried logging out and in and then rebooting, and I even tried pasting the file's contents into the gtkrc file of the theme I use. If you need to know, I'm using the 'Lush' Metacity window border and the 'Redmond' engine.

The Panel gets broken many times. Sometimes the Switch Button vanishes, battery indicator shows up twice.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWas wondering if there is a simple way to make the kickoff menu slightly larger than the panel similar to the way Windows 7 can have their (formerly-known-as) "Start" button larger?I have KDE on my laptop and am trying to make the best use of the small screen space. The Plasma Netbook Workspaces is alright, but I ended up returning to base KDE instead.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10 I uninstalled empathy (im using skype). The empathy menu in the evolution indicator was gone after that.I also uninstalled gwibber. But the gwibber status indicator remains within the about-me panel... Uninstalling the gwibber package also removes the me-menu which I want to keep actually. Especially the shutdown/restart... part of it. See attachment.I know there is a shutdown panel-app...but its butt-ugly and it doesnt allow to logon/off.
In another thread I read that the gwibber status shouldnt be there if no account for it is configured... which it is not... I do use ubuntu-one though which is in the same menu... I saw that this issue was addressed at some bug report before, but not fixed yet...
Does anybody know a good workaround to get rid of the gwibber status in the panel while keeping the about me and the shutdown button?
I don't know how this happened, been using Ubuntu for a few years now (but I still consider myself a newbie): Using 10.10. In the "places" drop down menu, when I click on locations such as Home, Documents, Downloads, etc, the Totem Movie Players runs, and tries to "open" the files in the respective folders --- instead of a Nautilus file manager window opening up.
How could this have happened? I looked in both Nautilus and Movie Player "Preferences", but was unable to find any customizable options that could be related.
In my top right corner I got all my Ubuntu appindicators that come with Ubuntu 11.04. I also have Dropbox, caffeine and screenlets. Problem is that I cant click on dropbox, caffeine, battery indicator, wlan or sound indicator until I first click on messages menu and slide over to appindicator that I need. When screenlets appindicator is not present there is no problem. Its the same when I had Jupiter installed.

I'm currently tweaking ubuntu to my liking. I got rid of the "menu bar" and replaced it with the "Main Menu". I don't like the black arrow on the Main Menu so I followed the instructions to get rid of it posted hereI got to the part where I type "sudo make" However, I get the exact error posted hereI tried to follow the solution, I installed libpanel-applet2-dev using synaptic. I tried to edit the "Makefile" in the directory /var/cache/apt-build/build/gnome-panel-2.30.2. However, when I opened this make file I did not find any line calledpanel-compatibility.$(OBJEXT) panel.$(OBJEXT) applet.$(OBJEXT)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI saw a similar thrad, but can't find it anymore. Anyhow it was not resolved. So I take the liberty to post this in a new thread: I have installed ubuntu 9.10 on a laptop in dual boot configuration (other OS is WinXP). grub starts and I can hit enter to boot Ubuntu. However as soon as I use an arrow key to move downwards in the menu, grub hangs. In this condition I cannot boot any other OS, not even the "safe" version of Ubuntu.
Any idea what is the cause of this? It is a fresh installation and I read in the other thread that reinstalling grub or re-running grub-update had no positive effect. Does anone know how I can install grub 0.97 ? Where do I find it?
I usually have a system indicator and desktop switcher (to see which desktop I am working on) in my panel (in previous ubuntu releases). I really like the unity interface of the 11.04 betta but I want to have these applet in my panel is there a way to have it? since there is no option which says add to panel in 11.04.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI changed the language on my 10.04 install to Canadian English, but now I have this icon in the Gnome panel that allows me to switch from USA to Can. I live in "Can" so have no need to see it displayed and have no interest in using American English so I have no desire to see that displayed. How can I have the system speak Canadian English and only that with no button on the panel letting me know what language I'm using?
Here is an image displaying what I mean:

I want rid of that and I want to remain using Canadian English.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the past one bug appereared to me several times (using 10.04 and 10.10, too) but I still cannot reproduce it in order to file it. After logging into Ubuntu or just while usnig Ubuntu a small gap appears at the indicator sector of the gnome panel. Did anyone else see this happening and can reproduce it? It's not a big thing but still it influences a smooth user expeience, in my opinion.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI accidentally removed the wireless internet indicator from my panel. I looked up the problem and the best I have come up with is how to get it back TEMPORARILY, using terminal. When I type in "nm-applet", in terminal, it brings it back, but if I close terminal, it disappears with it. So, I have to essentially keep the terminal window, or lose the internet. It blows my mind that such a simple thing is taking so much effort and inquiry.

When rebooting and in Boot Selection Menu , the Arrow keys won't go down through kernel selections. They just won't move.
Is this a Linux or CMOS problem ?
I've been searching and searching, trying to find a way to remove the little arrow next to the gnome main menu icon.Found a way by editing gnome-panel/panel-menu-button.c <--- however I cannot locate this in Fedora 12... help me out here, this has been nagging me for quite some time now.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIt was there until I just now added skype to the messaging menu. I did this by typing "gksu gedit /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/skype" in terminal and adding /usr/share/applications/skype.desktop to the file. After i done that i checked the applet and evolution was gone. It now shows "chat" on top, then "broadcast", then skype. The evolution file is still there containing "/usr/share/applications/evolution.desktop" I did notice there being two the same evolution icons in "/usr/share/applications" + the evolution mail and email settings icons.
This probably isn't of importance but the only other thing i ever changed earlier in the application applet was adding emesene. I deleted emesene and since i diddnt quite know how do delete text file made for it so I just removed the "/usr/share/applications/emesene.desktop" text from the file. Also when i had emesene installed and the icon in the indicator applet it showed on top is it possible for me to get the skype icon on top as well?
