Ubuntu :: Gnome Panel Language Indicator

Aug 5, 2010

I changed the language on my 10.04 install to Canadian English, but now I have this icon in the Gnome panel that allows me to switch from USA to Can. I live in "Can" so have no need to see it displayed and have no interest in using American English so I have no desire to see that displayed. How can I have the system speak Canadian English and only that with no button on the panel letting me know what language I'm using?

Here is an image displaying what I mean:

I want rid of that and I want to remain using Canadian English.

Ubuntu :: Bug In Indicator Sector Of The Gnome Panel?

Sep 25, 2010

In the past one bug appereared to me several times (using 10.04 and 10.10, too) but I still cannot reproduce it in order to file it. After logging into Ubuntu or just while usnig Ubuntu a small gap appears at the indicator sector of the gnome panel. Did anyone else see this happening and can reproduce it? It's not a big thing but still it influences a smooth user expeience, in my opinion.

The problem is that, I am using two Indian languages and the flags for these two is the same.. (The Indian one!) I would like to use custom flags for these two languages.. I know that I have to place them in /usr/share/pixmaps/ ..... But, how do I ensure that these two languages target two different files? Presently both the languages are using the in.png file...

Ubuntu :: Wireless Indicator Missing From Panel

Nov 4, 2010

I accidentally removed the wireless internet indicator from my panel. I looked up the problem and the best I have come up with is how to get it back TEMPORARILY, using terminal. When I type in "nm-applet", in terminal, it brings it back, but if I close terminal, it disappears with it. So, I have to essentially keep the terminal window, or lose the internet. It blows my mind that such a simple thing is taking so much effort and inquiry.

Ubuntu :: After Adding 'killall Gnome-panel' To The Startup Applications Does The Panel Fail To Load Altogether

Dec 4, 2010

Regarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.

Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.

I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.

Desktop Environments :: Unity2D Panel Broken (mouse Over Reverts To Gnome-panel) / Sort It?

May 17, 2011

So I just updated my IdeaPad to Natty and played around with Unity. The performane was absolutely unbearable so I installed Unity2D from the software center. Now when I start the session everything seems to be fine at first. Whenever I move the mouse over the panel though it seems to switch to my old gnome-panel from the "Classic" session (with some missing icons). When I move the mouse over that panel again it switches back to the Unity panel style. What is going on? Can I fix this somehow? I will have to use the classic session until I get a working consistent behavior

Fedora :: Gnome Indicator-applet ?

Nov 16, 2009

Ubuntu has a pair of packages called indicator-applet and indicator-applet-session.

The latter (-session) applet is what shows your user name on the panel (like the switch users applet in Fedora), but it also shows an icon representing your current status in Pidgin, and clicking the applet lets you change your status in Pidgin as well as log out or switch users.

indicator-applet in Ubuntu 9.10 sits by default next to the notification area and shows an e-mail icon, and allegedly is supposed to tell you how many unread messages you have in your e-mail client. I've never configured my e-mail in Ubuntu as I rarely use that OS so I can't say for sure.

Is it feasible to get these applets ported over to Fedora? Would a deb-to-rpm converter work, or would there be a nightmare of dependency issues since these applets seem to be something Canonical made themselves and that's why only Ubuntu has them?

Or has anybody already created RPMs for them?
