I'am using ubuntu lucid, after today's system updates, mysql stop working at all. Log file at /var/log/mysql/error.log does not say anything about today, and whe I try to start it the terminal hang also in verbose mode.

After this morning's Ubuntu update, the folder I was working in all day yesterday is missing. Also, all icons on the top were missing except the date until I restarted. Folder's still missing though. I was wondering if this is a bug or if it's something with my computer. Also, I didn't look that close at the update, but I thought it looked a lot like the previous update (had chrome in it again).
View 5 Replies View Relatedyesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.
So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.
Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.

I have installed the wifidrivers needed to use the wifi on the 1018 in Ubuntu Netbook Edition. It works until I get asked to install 5 (Sorry, don't remember their name) more updates, now I can not see Wireless networks under the networkmanager, It does not help installing the driver again, and I can not remove it either. It says the driver is activated but not in use. Also note that in desktop mode I lost my other workspaces, I can not change what window is on top and the quit, minimize and full window on windows is not there anymore.

The short version of why I didn't notice this immediately is that I have two simultaneous audio outputs from my system to my speakers and I hadn't realized the IEC958 output wasn't in use.After messing around with a few settings to no avail, I remembered that I'd recently run update manager (this had to be within the last two weeks) and thought this might be the cause.I have just booted to a 10.10 install disc and verified the IEC958 output works fine there.
Unfortunately I'm not sure which of the recent updates could have caused this problem. Before I submit a bug report on launchpad I was hoping anyone here might have a suggestion as to where to look to figure this out.I'd recently seen this thread and this thread which lead me to believe it may have been a recent kernel update.What's my best course of action to determine the problematic update?[edit]In case anyone needs the info, I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit on a system with an Intel DH57JG motherboard. None of these got the optical output working again.

I just updated my software, through a "setenforce 0" and root shell access since the last update before this left me with a bugged GUI updater, restarted and then logged back in to . . . no users visible in GDM at all. There was nothing but a huge "Other" box staring me in the face. I got the idea to check /var/log/messages and then the GDM greeter logs from there, and here is what I came up with.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. 32 bit. The install had not finished as it barked at tripwire config. I have had to stop it and continue from command prompt. More or less the install went OK. After the install, mysql 5.1 does not want to start or stop. Commands
/etc/init.d/mysql stop ( or 'stop mysql' , or service mysql stop' )
/etc/init.d/mysql start
Do not finish - do not return to command prompt. No log messages insyslog or mysql logs. Say, I do 'service mysql start', the command does not return, I click Ctrl+C, then repeat the command. This displays :
'start: Job is already running: mysql'.
Of course mysql is not running. I've tried to remove and reinstall the packages. No result. There is 'stop mysql' command in one of install scripts that hangs.

I'm trying to update the driver on my Nvidia 8800 GTS 512. Nvidia has a native linux driver for this. I've downloaded and attempted to run it, but it returns this error:

So I'm attempting to stop the X server, though I don't understand what that is. Whoever came up with that name should feel bad.
With a bit of poking around the internet, I found the "Booting to a different runlevel" section on this page: [URL]
But the init command in console does nothing, and the file /etc/inittab is not there.
So how am I supposed to install this driver?

View 5 Replies View Relatedrunning 11.3, installed k3b and a few other things from Packman. Now suse updates wants to replace k3b. I moved the suse update repo to priority 100, packman to 90. Still, it tries to apply the k3b update from the suse repo. I went to the updater in yast and told it to NEVER install the update, and also tried locking it (protected) and again, after a reboot, it checks for updates, and tries to replace my k3b. Then finally, the version in packman is NEWER than the one in the suse update repo
