after yesterday's routine ubuntu update - allowing both security and recommended updates - i turned off my pc. turning it on today, it seems like my USB modem support is gone. i am using the "eciadsl-usermode_0.12-1_i386" package, and i get the message "/proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory".i tried re-installing my eciadsl package, but got the same result.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04. When I try to connect t-mobile(USA) modem dongle to my computer, I get this error in dmesg.
My comuter is Lenovo Y460p Core i7 2630M, 8 GB Ram, AMD Graphics.
When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
I'am using ubuntu lucid, after today's system updates, mysql stop working at all. Log file at /var/log/mysql/error.log does not say anything about today, and whe I try to start it the terminal hang also in verbose mode.

Several weeks ago, after an automatic update via the update manager, my wired network stopped working. I did not notice it directly, since my wireless connection took it over. I only noticed it when I had to work in an office where I didn't know the wireless password.Since then, I have been trying several things and searched several forums. It is hard to find any troubleshooting information about wired networking, as most of the problems seem to occur with wireless.
I did verify that there is no hardware problem. My laptop is dual boot and when I boot the other operating system, the wired network works without problems (as does the wireless.)My Ubuntu version is Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS. My kernel version is 2.6.32-25-generic i686. I hope anybody can help me getting my wired network working again.

Imagine this scenario at my home: I'm working on my laptop using WLAN receiver as I have a router installed at my home. Suddenly the electricity fails (it's a regular incident here in Bangladesh called Load-shedding) and the power source to modem and router dies.As a result, my internet connection drops. To connect to the internet without power, I use this QUBEE UH-235 WiMAX USB Modem. Now I know QUBEE may not be there in your country. But after a bit of research I figured that this UH-235 modem is commont every country. QUBEE just branded its logo on the device and the software within.This one is not my device, mine is here.
In my windows, the software is installed as soon as I plug in the USB. That software then detects the modem, scans for network, and then connects to the internet. No extra CD is required for this. However, on an Ubuntu machine, I can't get it working. I guess there are ways to get this UH-235 modem working on my Ubuntu machine. This is keeping me from using Ubuntu as you know I'll have to restart and log in to WIndows whenever electricity is off as Ubuntu works with Wi-Fi, not this UH-235 modem when the Wi-Fi is out of power
I have received a new huawei k3770 usb modem but ubuntu 11.04 (32 bit) picks it up as a cd rom but not as a modem. Modeswitch is installed and I have reinstalled it as well. I have googled it but I found nothing.

View 2 Replies View Relatedpulled the wireless USB adapter out of the back of my laptop when I was using it. I plugged it back in and it can see my wireless network, but it can't connect. Everytime it tries, it just shows the connecting icon on the top bar for a few minutes and then says that the network has been disconnected.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB adaptor, but nothing I've done seems able to fix the issue. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have had ubuntu about a month now and everything has worked great up until now, I was surfing the web and all the sudden I lost connection. I tried to connect to the signal but got nothing so I did a reboot. After the reboot my wireless signal didn't show up. i right clicked the connection icon on the top taskbar and the enable wireless is blacked out to where i cant click it.

However 2 days ago, the wireless in ubuntu stopped working. I think this may be a result of trying to set up a static eth0 connection between my laptop and an embedded board, but I dont see how messing with eth0 would stop the wlan from working.
Symptoms: When I left click on the network connections icon in the tray, all it lists under "Wireless networks" is "device not ready". Needless to say, there are no networks available to connect to. Also the wireless is working fine under windows.

Last night I was trying to get my printer working, and when I rebooted, I lost networking and sound.I am currently booting on a live CD, and sound and networking are fine-- so it can't be a hardware issue (obviously). I must have inadvertently broken something, but I can't figure it out.I have tried restarting networking, but it doesn't respond-- it says stop/waiting or something like that.I can't access the sound preferences-- it says waiting for sound to respond (or something like that).
When I reboot, sometimes I see a terminal window with the same line scrolling very, very quickly-- something about waiting for USB. Additionally, the system is very slow to respond-- clicking a menu item can take a long time for it to appear, etc.What could have occurred, and how might I troubleshoot it?
Just recently the wireless stopped working on Ubuntu 10.04. The machine is AcerOne AOA-150. I did notice recently the wireless would stop working, and I would need to either 1) reboot 2) switch the wireless off by moving the switch from left to right in front of the laptop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedBeen searching for hours and looked at several other threads but still can't figure this out. We have 4 folders being shared from a Ubuntu 10.4.2 LTS Server using Samba. A couple days ago two computers in the office lost access to these shares. The other computers in the office are fine. So far as I know nothing has changed on the server. I can putty into the server still but I can't map a drive or open a window through run (\server_nameetc).
I've also tried disabled iptables on the server and windows firewall on the the windows xp machines. Still no luck. What am I doing wrong? Like I said, so far as I know there have been no changes to the server whatsoever. One day it was working and the next it just stops.
I've started to set up a server at my house, where I eventually want to run it headless, and I can just VNC in from my other Desktop. I installed Ubuntu 10.10, setup remote desktop on the server, and from there was able to do any work remotely. That was nice. I turn the computer off at night, and the next day when I was going to work on it, I cannot VNC in anymore. One day passed, and now every time I try to use VNC it comes up with "Failed to connect to server" I also set a static IP address on the server too, so I know the address isn't changing every so often.

This is really weird, and I would like just this question answered: I've spent like 2 hours by plugging, unplugging, rebooting, and doing everything I could, but the modem wasn't working. When I did ls /dev/ttyU* it was showing up a list of 6 usb devices.

And when I sent the command wvdialconf after looking into all the devices, it didn't recognize any modem.
The thing is, that by the time I was writing here for a solution, I disconnected the modem, and when I reconnected it I did a ls /dev/ttyU* just to copypaste the info, and Voil! there were just 2 devices, and wvdialconf worked out just fine! I would like to know what I was doing wrong, so I make sure it won't happen again.

I have a ZTE USM Modem from 3 Tre Italy, on the tre.it network. The modem worked fine for a month or so. Yesterday I recharged the SIM and the modem has stopped working after midnight. Earlier, the modem would indicate a red light, and then turn to green, blink a few times, and connect on its own.
Now, it shows red, goes off, and then stays red constantly. I've tried putting the priginal PIN that came with the SIM into my Mobile Broadband settings in Network Manager to no avail.

I recently received my Ubuntu 9.10 CD, Kubuntu 9.10CD and Server Edition. I was recommended to do so by a friend because my computer Running on Windows Vista Home Basic with 512MB RAM has been extremely, unbearably slow for the last month or so I got the CD's yesterday and I ran the Ubuntu CD and everything was fine, I rebooted the Computer and it started up! It was great!! Really quick and responsive and easy to use and i LOVE it's features...
My only problem is my Broadband. I live in Ireland and I have my broadband with o2, it's quick and sufficient for my needs. I have a Huawei E270 usb modem (It's wireless broadband). And it wouldn't Work. I plugged it into my pc with Ubuntu up and running and it opened the File for o2 rather than the Interface for it. When I plugged the modem in there was a green lock symbol on the top right of the screen. Is Ubuntu even compatible with the E270 modem?

I switched my FC11 system off yesterday. Turning it on this morning, NO domain names can be resolved anymore.I can ping IP adresses directly, and even get to them in FireFox if I type the IP address. However, typing any domain name at all fails. I cannot ping or SSH to any domain name, but as soon as I enter an IP, it works. I can ping the DNS server by IP that is set in my /etc/resolv.confI checked on an XP system using the same DNS server set in /etc/resolv.conf (which can also be pinged on IP from my FC11 system), on the same connection from the same ISP, and it works.E. g. without touching anything at all (and all updates are turned off) my FC11 system has stopped resolving domain names.I'm running 32bit FC11. The system has been working fine for more than 2 years.So it has spontaneously stopped doing DNS when I enter a domain name. Where can I start looking?
