I'am using ubuntu lucid, after today's system updates, mysql stop working at all. Log file at /var/log/mysql/error.log does not say anything about today, and whe I try to start it the terminal hang also in verbose mode.

If I switch to the ifup method in Yast then I can get online but when I switch back to user controlled knetworkmanager tells me that networking is disabled.I've actually had this happen twice.The first time I somehow managed to get it working again (I thought it was by right clicking on the icon in the system tray). This time I don't see the same option.Has anybody got any suggestions on how to get knetworkmanager working again.

I just updated my software, through a "setenforce 0" and root shell access since the last update before this left me with a bugged GUI updater, restarted and then logged back in to . . . no users visible in GDM at all. There was nothing but a huge "Other" box staring me in the face. I got the idea to check /var/log/messages and then the GDM greeter logs from there, and here is what I came up with.

Since 11.2, I am using Knetworkmanager for getting connected to the internet.But is getting disconnected on its own every now and then. I used Kinternet when I was on 11.1 and it worked fine, Infact I would prefer kinternet over knetworkmanager anyday. But in suse 11.2, having both KDE3 and KDE4 libraries does make system work unexpectdly. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up sound notifications for my wireless internet because my router is old and glitchy (plus it would be pretty cool to hear Homer Simpson get exited about me connecting to the internet). The only notification that does not work is the sound option. I can point the network manager to the .wav file but it will not play, even when I press the little play/test button.

It works just fine.However, Knetworkmanager won't startup at boot/login. Therefore, the network doesn't startup automatically. I switched back to KDE and even though I have re-enabled "user controlled with network manager" KNetworkManager still doesn't run at KDE login. The kNetworkManager works well on the laptop both on user account and root account. It connects to my mobile broadband fine.
The problem appeared on my PC. When I log into root account - everything seems to be fine, It connects through knetworkmanager - The cellular connection gets activated, I see X and a heart near "Activated". root account reads my DNS'es from resolv.conf
When I only log into the user account (not as root), the knetworkmanager connects - but as I've checked - it seems that it doesn't use the DNS adresses I've entered in resolv.conf (netconfig_dns_policy is set to "") so I can manually add openDNS to the resolv.conf). It just connects -
I did CHMOD the files resolv.conf and config in sysconfig/network - no luck.
The only way to bypass this is logging to root first - connect there, then switch to user while staying connected... but I think it's an annoying solution.

For one of the users on my system, knetworkmanager abruptly ceases to autostart once on a while. This happens once in roughly 10-15 days. When that happens, i have to go into .kde4/share/config/networkmanagementrc and manually toggle Autostart=true (from false). This trick works for another 2 weeks or so, before the value of "Autostart" automagically changes to 'false' and i have change it again.I dont mind doing it manually, but the user in question is my mom, and she does not have the know-how to do it herself when i'm not around.

Every other wlan works, ethernet works, settings are definitely correct because it works with windows, other computers.And on the same computer even with gnome networkmanager! Also it used to work fine earlier. Behavior the same with different users including root, regardless of using kwallet or not. Networkamanager tries to connect and after one or two minutes throws the setting window back at me. I uninstalled and re-installed and deleted all related files I could think of. I even tried a complete fresh installation of opensuse only keeping the /home partition, so the problem must be lying there I guess. But then why all users?

I accidentally powered down in the middle of a session by removing the wrong battery from my laptop (a Motion Computing tablet), and ever since that happened knetworkmanager crashes with a segmentation fault on startup. I have uninstalled it and then reinstalled it from an openSuse 11.4 DVD I made a few months ago, but it still crashes on startup. Ifup says it connects to the wifi (Wayport Access @ McDonalds) I have available, but browsers don't reach the internet while Ifup is connected, so I can't sign on and get access to anything more recent. Is there some file I ought to delete,or some other software I ought to delete and reinstall?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter upgraded to 11.3. Do a operation that active a network node, the Knetworkmananger will active a display on "Task Bar" (see figure 1). And it can't be minimized to "System Tray Panel", just can't be minimized to "Task Bar".
And the network list display pops up without all display some time (see figure 2), it's very boring.
If I kill the Kneworkmananger and restart it again, it will just have a Icon on "System Tray Panel" normally. But if it change to another network node automatically or I change it by clicking the icon, the display on "Task Tar" will appear and can't be resume to "System Tray", just like mentioned above.
I don't know why have this problem, I tried to reinstall the Knetworkmanager, but the problem also exist.
Still a flawed KnetworkManager in the released 11.3.No user control for cabled 10/100 lan ports. Yast config for the eth0 says it can have usercontrol by networkmanager. Oh no it doesn't.It seems to cater for wi-fi users only who get a "enable wireless" tickbox and "manage connections". At least you can stop and start it.Meanwhile cable users who might have a taskbar display for lan traffic can see stuff pouring in, or out and if it's something they don't want they can't do anything about it unless they pull the plug.
