yesterday I let the update manager install a whole bunch of updates for my 10.04 install on my MSI Notebook ER710. My wireless was just working peachy until then (with the madwifi drivers), but after the update, no more... I checked the madwifi, tried a new make, but nothing worked.
So, after reading somewhere that 10.10 had less issues with wireless I decided to upgrade to 10.10 in the hope that that would solve my problem.
Well, partly it did, as in, according to my system I've got a wireless again and this morning even, it was able to see wireless networks! Unfortunately I couldn't connect to mine, although the key was correct. At some point I lost the ability to see wireless networks again. I tried wicd too, but no luck their either. It recognizes my card but can't see any networks.

I'am using ubuntu lucid, after today's system updates, mysql stop working at all. Log file at /var/log/mysql/error.log does not say anything about today, and whe I try to start it the terminal hang also in verbose mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed the wifidrivers needed to use the wifi on the 1018 in Ubuntu Netbook Edition. It works until I get asked to install 5 (Sorry, don't remember their name) more updates, now I can not see Wireless networks under the networkmanager, It does not help installing the driver again, and I can not remove it either. It says the driver is activated but not in use. Also note that in desktop mode I lost my other workspaces, I can not change what window is on top and the quit, minimize and full window on windows is not there anymore.

The short version of why I didn't notice this immediately is that I have two simultaneous audio outputs from my system to my speakers and I hadn't realized the IEC958 output wasn't in use.After messing around with a few settings to no avail, I remembered that I'd recently run update manager (this had to be within the last two weeks) and thought this might be the cause.I have just booted to a 10.10 install disc and verified the IEC958 output works fine there.
Unfortunately I'm not sure which of the recent updates could have caused this problem. Before I submit a bug report on launchpad I was hoping anyone here might have a suggestion as to where to look to figure this out.I'd recently seen this thread and this thread which lead me to believe it may have been a recent kernel update.What's my best course of action to determine the problematic update?[edit]In case anyone needs the info, I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit on a system with an Intel DH57JG motherboard. None of these got the optical output working again.
There is a realtek rtl8187 on my board, and windows can browse and connect to wireless networks. I installed F11 and it was capable of browse and connect to my wireless network - even if it was really slower than windows. Anyway I did some yum update+reboots and now NetworkManager don't list any wireless network, and the checkbox "Enabled wireless" in the right click menu disappeared (I can see "Enable networking" only now). What can I do?

P.S.: I have another F12 system, on a second HDD, that I haven't updated since two weeks ago and I can connect to the internet with it. So this seems like a package correlation problem. I think it might affect more users than just me, especially those who only have F12 installed on their computers.
If this affects more than just me, I think the guise at Fedora should offer a script or a rpm to be used offline to, whether downgrade the "ppp" package, or to update the "/usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so" plugin.
I am using an NFS to connect my PC running Fedora 10 to a development board running embedded linux. When I installed Fedora 10 everything worked fine. But since I updated the system it gets stuck when the embedded board is looking up the port. I'll explain below...
I set the IP address of my host (my PC) in the embedded board, assigned the locatoin of my root file system to be exported from the host machine, exported by file system on the PC (/usr/exportfs -ra), started (and restarted several times when it didn't work) the NFS service (/sbin/service nfs restart), and boot the embedded board.
The board can successfully ping my PC. It also gets and answer from the DHCP saying it was successfully assigned an IP address (my IP address is...)
However when it gets to the "looking up port" line it gets stuck saying "looking up port of RPC 100003/2 on <my host IP address>"
it times out, and retries on 100005/1 again with no luck.
This all started happening after I ran "yum update".
I checked that rpcbind (which I understand is used now instead of portmap) is running and that my nfs is running using ps. They are both running.
I'm getting to the point where all I can think of is rolling back my installation of Fedora to the non-updated version I have on my ISO. But this means I can't ever run update... I'd rather not do this.
I have verified that all settings in the embedded board remain unchanged and the IP address of my host has not changed as well.
In the latest Fedora 11 updates, kernel 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.x86_64 breaks broadcom-wl functionality on my BCM4312 wifi adapter

Ubuntu 9.10. Everything works fine until yesterday when I cannot connect to network. My lan card is Realtek PCI and is present on system (i can read mac address and all settings). In connection manager I was try to set everything manually (IP, netmask, gateway and DNS) or leave automatic - without success. I am connected to router. I don't want to feed "log-hungry" people because how to resolve ubuntu lan problem can help me (not someone who will want to try). I cannot connect manually because there is no option when I click on network icon (I can just uncheck connection, but that's all). I can't even access to my router (from computer with Ubuntu, because I can access from another computer). All logs shows lan card proper. Windows XP on the same computer booted from another HDD works fine.

Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

View 9 Replies View RelatedUseing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?
My wifi card disassociates from the AP and there's no way to re-associate.I had to manually disable the card and re-enable again via the eeepc tray.This happens many times in a day , it's totally casual, and started to happen about 4 days ago. Before that, I always had a rock-solid connection!I don't understand why this bug appeared to me only 4 days ago.

with variou combination of /dev/**** can anyone mount this pen drive or can tell me what's the default for /dev/ ??? i think sdb1 it works with my external drive but i am not sure for flash drive and i am also not sure if it's ntfs file system, it's 4 GB so it should be ntfs
I was burning a disc with K3b and it was from an ISO; Burn and verify. Everything went successful, but when I put in my 2nd DVD to burn, K3b doesn't recognize it. On top of that when I right click on the icon of a Blank DVD on my desktop, it doesn't have the Eject Volume option there anymore. Does anybody know what could be going on here? why would my Fedora (11) stop burning and ejecting discs all of a sudden?
also, I tried this with multiple DVDs/drives to see if they were bad DVDs/drives and it's all the same result. Also, since I didn't have the eject option on my desktop I had to eject it with K3b from within the program. There's still a problem though.
edit: Some reason K3b is recognising discs again and is burning again. I guess the restart did it and I don't know why it was acting funny.
I buy a new usb network adapter (Through DX), when I try to use it in ubuntu or BackTrack4 Final it is working, and connecting networks even with WPA encryption. But after few minuts it stops working totally. It is showing that I'm connected to the AP but web sites do not respond.
Notes:
- I have another PCI Wireless adapter which works fine.
- The problematic adapter works great on windows.
- A driver CD came with it, including a linux driver which I wasn't succesfully installed.
- A BackTrack3 Disc came with it, claming by the instructions that the adapter will work with it. I didn't try it because i have backtrack 4 final.

I have been looking around the forums searching for similar problems, it seems not only me had this problem. About a month ago I did a regular update via Upd Manager. The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.
I installed F14 and I have been having some issues with the usage of the ram memory. Here is the situation: while working with firefox, amsn, and VLC, suddenly the system stop responding, I just can manage to check system monitor and the ram is at 89% (of 1GB) and the swap at 50% (of 1.4GB). I can do nothing then I just switch off the machine. After that using the same applications everything is fine. I was using F12.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
Seems like the latest Kernel (2.6.40-4.fc15.i686) update screwed with my setup a little bit.
This is what happened:
I had about 100 updates to my F15 pending in my taskbar's update notifier.
I let the system update itself.
Reboot and desktop effects don't work.
Takes a long time to open up Dolphin.
electricsheep (OpenGL screen saver) doesn't work.
I'm assuming it's a problem with OpenGL or my nvidia video drivers which I tried reinstalling from mjmwired's guide.
That didn't fix anything.
I'm looking for a point in the right direction or a way to revert back to my previous state before the system updated everything.
I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
I am new in configuring named.I want to set my firewall (Fedora 11) as a name server. The local domain is a Windows domain. I'd like internal users translate domain name into IP on this server when they go to the internet. After reading some posts on the web, I set up named as below. It seems the named does the job but with some problems.
1) When I start the server, I couldn't find the named process even if the file "named" is in /etc/init.d. I can browse Internet on the server with domain name (DNS works locally). But internal users couldn't get the domain name translated. If I shutdown the server at this stage, it will shutdown within 1 minute.
2) If I run "service named start" after the server boot up, I see process "named" and named work okay. Both internal user and local host can browse Internet with domain name. However, any command starting with "service named" has no response after this, such as "service named status" or "service named stop". I can see it shows "stopping named" and this last forever. I have to kill the process then restart named server so that named may run again.
3) If I shutdown the server now, it will take 4-5 minute instead of 1 minute in 1). The shutdown stuck at "shutdown named" for 4 minutes. Even if I kill process named before the shutdown, it will take 4-5 minutes.
It took me a week on this issue. I appreciate if you could take a look my configure files and guide me through this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI configured my Xubuntu laptop to work with my Netgear Wireless router to connect to the Internet. I was able to connect, and downloaded Hardy updates of 184 MB. After installation of the updates, the system prompted me to restart. The Wireless network is not working since then. Tried reconfiguring, but to no avail. The proprietary drivers for my wireless network card have been downloaded and installed... remember, it worked well enough download the updates!
