General :: Moving Windows Buttons To Left Side On KDE 4?
Jan 21, 2011I'm using KDE 4 under Slackware 13.1, and I'd like to move the minimize, maximize, and close buttons to the left side of the windows titlebar. Is there any way to do this on KDE? I've looked under all the windows options, and the 'Buttons' section only contained a list that didn't seem to have what I was looking for.I've only been using KDE for a couple of weeks, so I apologize if the answer is obvious, or if moving the buttons to the left is simply not an option. Any help would be appreciated.

Mar 27, 2011I like the buttons on the left. I'm running 10.04 & I know how to move them. The problem is that changing themes will move them back right. OK, if the new theme has them on the right that's OK. But going back to the other theme doesn't change them back. They don't seem to be controlled by the theme, or I'm just not doing it right.

Jun 3, 2010Bottom line up front: I'd like to move my window controls from the right corner to the left corner in 10.04.
All of my window controls (minimize, close, etc) are back on the right hand corner of the window, and after my upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 they were on the left. I briefly tried E16 with gnome, didn't like it, and removed all. This caused metacity to become unconfigured, and now all of the themes have window controls on the right.
Where can I fix it so the window controls are back where the 10.04 ubuntu wanted them?
General :: Mouse Cursor Keeps Moving Left By Itself?
Apr 3, 2011I've got a problem with my Arch flashdisk. When I start xorg, my mouse cursor keeps moving left until it reaches the edge of the screen, where it stops. I checked the connector, etc., but it didn't help, so I guess it's software-related.What can be causing the problem?

Nov 8, 2010I have two icons on the far right of my top panel that have no "Move menu item". I would like to move them so that they are more to the left and the search is first on right followed by the time/date and everything else after that. One icon is Dropbox and the other is my wireless signal icon. How do I move these icons? There is no lock to panel or move menu item.

Oct 7, 2010In my desktop toolbar on the right side where my running applications are shown etc. I have some problems:
1) After a while and after some messages have been shown and applications started, there is a growing gap which gets larger. When I move the mouse over the gap, I see tooltips belonging to the application to the right which is always a different one so I assume that it is a toolbar problem and no application problem.
2) Some icons are not clickable with the left mouse button, e.g. Rhythmbox. When I left click on it, nothing happens.
3) When I open the volume control with a left click, I cannot close it by clicking somewhere else. I always have to click on the "Mixer" Button to see a whole window and then I can close it.

Jul 6, 2011I uninstalled Google Earth and the "grey" icon remains no matter what I do. Also I had wine to run an MS application I uninstalled wine, before uninstalling the application. The icons remain, do I need to re-install wine again, uninstall the application then uninstall wine? The file that held the application I deleted, first because I had a brain fade.

Dec 18, 2010If a file gets created in the user's Desktop folder, or if a drive is added to the machine and a Desktop icon is correspondingly created, they will by default appear on the left side of the desktop (unless, in the case of the latter, the specific drive has been created before and dragged to the right side, in which case GNOME will remember to put it in the same place).
Because I have a terminal window embedded onto my Desktop in the top left corner and occupying most of the screen), I keep my icons on the right side of the Desktop instead of the left (Mac style) - Any time I add a new drive or a file is sent to the Desktop, however, I have to kill the terminal window to be able to click on the icon, then drag it back to the right side, then restart the terminal.
Is there any way to tweak GNOME so that these icons are added from the top right corner and down instead of from the top left, automatically?

May 13, 2010i installed ubuntu 10.4 on my samsung n110 netbook, the regular one, not the netbookremix
so far it looks good, some little inconveniences though, my main one right now is: i used to be able to grab a window with the mouse on one desktop and move it to another desktop just by dragging it (i.e. drag it to the right side of the screen and then it would switch desktops automatically)
now that doesnt seem to work anymore, i can only move the window but then i have to switch desktops manually and move the window some more
this really sucks, i know for now i can use ctrl+alt+shift+left/rightarrow but im used to doing it with the mouse and i quite like it
so my question is, is this a common issue? is it specific to my environment, if that's the case i'd be happy to give you more info on it...

[Windows+Left] - Dock window to the left side
[Windows+Right] - Dock window to the right side
When you press Windows + left arrow the active window occupies 50% of the screen (on the left), and when you press Windows + right arrow the active window occupies 50% of the screen on the right. I have tried to set this up with gnome on Ubuntu but have't managed it so far. I am sure this can be setup in gnome. How can it be done? In summary this splits two windows on the screen so one window occupies 50% of screen on left and the other on the right, how can this be setup and executed pronto on ubuntu?
Ubuntu / Apple :: Glitches When Moving Windows On 10.04?
Apr 17, 2010I've just installed 10.04 64bit on my iMac 27" i7 and before fighting with keyboard, mouse, audio. I'd like to share with you a strange behavior of the screen refresh speed, color depth and/or maybe a performance issue with the ATI. It's happening with all the resolutions. The windows borders are "cut" when moving or scaling them, the login screen seems to have a low color depth (as banding issues) and it appears slowly from top to bottom of the screen... for example, when I open the synaptic and the system ask for the password, I can see a very slow fading effect to dark screen.
I've made a full update then install the ATI proprietary drivers (from the ubuntu repositories). Basically I'd love to hear that my problem is a driver issue but it seems that 10.04 comes with the very last drivers from ATI. Does someone experience such a behavior? Does somebody know how to enhance it?

In Windows I am not just a GUI guy and have been using script and command line since the DOS days.
I want to learn Linux Server internals just as I do in Windows Server. Most of the books/guides I find are geared toward moving windows desktop user to Linux. Most linux books that I have come across are not for porting your knowledge from Windows servers to linux but instead they start to teach you linux from abc and then I lose interest because I know the basics.
what I should start so that I can pick the right distro for a server, configure it to be a solid server and deploy/manage it appropriately? I plan to use this knowledge at customer sites instead of just at home.

Jun 15, 2011I'm not sure if I should post this question in "hardware & laptops", or "Desktop Environments", because this is a hardware problem on a desktop computer.
Description of Problem:There is another thread that discussed this same problem that I'm having: However that thread is so old that the suggestions in it no longer work in Ubuntu 10.04 and for whatever reason I can not make a reply to that thread.As in the above thread, I've tried other input devices and rebooting the computer and using other USB ports, and my mouse still intermittently double left clicks randomly at times when I've only clicked the left mouse button once and at times and places when it should only produce a single click such as when selecting a drop down menu.
Has any one else had this problem, and does any one have any idea how to fix it or to trouble shoot this a bit more? Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to further clarify or troubleshoot this issue.

I also need to work with files over 4gb in size (which can't be done with Fat32, which happens to work with all 3 OS's) I tried MacOS journaled, that didnt work.
