General :: Disallow Closing Last Emacs Window Via Window-Manager Close Button

Jul 8, 2011

I like to start Emacs as part of a login script and leave it running for the duration of my login session (which is typically weeks).

I have scripts to call emacs-client which will allow me to use a file-manager or Windows Explorer to locate files and right-click to edit them in Emacs.

I often end up with a lot of emacs windows (frames) open and I like to just be able to close them by clicking on the MS-Windows or KDE X button at the top-right.

The trouble is, if the window is the last one, this will shut down emacs which will lose all kinds of interesting history information.

As a work-around I use C-x 5 0 which won't let me close the last frame but this is often not as convenient as using the mouse

Does anyone know how to configure Emacs so that it can intercept the Window-Close button of the last frame to either request confirmation or simply disallow it?

On MS-Windows, disallowing closing of the last window may cause logoff to hang if emacs is still running but I'm not too worried about that.

I know rebooting or log off and back on will clear the ports but this much slower process for me. I am looking for forcibly closing the port in command line.

Just wanted to ask if this is a package for ths or is hard-coded into the system? And is it KDE-specific?

recently installed via synaptic some packages about netbook to try the new appearance. Having decided that I didnt like it, I chose to revert, by uninstalling those packagesMy problem now is that on every application I execute, the icons that are usually found on top right of the screen (minimize, maximize and close) cannot be seen and, if I want to shut an application down I must do it via control q or control w depending of the application. I mean every application, be it firefox, opening folders on the hard drive, open officeIt may be that there is still a package I must uninstall.

Ubuntu :: Toolbar - Some Icons Are Not Clickable With The Left Mouse Button

Oct 7, 2010

In my desktop toolbar on the right side where my running applications are shown etc. I have some problems:

1) After a while and after some messages have been shown and applications started, there is a growing gap which gets larger. When I move the mouse over the gap, I see tooltips belonging to the application to the right which is always a different one so I assume that it is a toolbar problem and no application problem.

2) Some icons are not clickable with the left mouse button, e.g. Rhythmbox. When I left click on it, nothing happens.

3) When I open the volume control with a left click, I cannot close it by clicking somewhere else. I always have to click on the "Mixer" Button to see a whole window and then I can close it.
