View 4 Replies1) How do I align my desktop icons to a grid?
2) Is it possible to move the close, maximize, and minimize buttons to the left side of the window? I prefer that to the since I'm used to GNOME Unity.
How do I get the close minimize maximize buttons back on the right? I looked in appearance, and all of the little previews of the themes have them on the right, but they are on the left when I apply them. Is there any way to change them back? this is very frustrating.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04, at first everything worked fine. Then i changed the compiz configuration to cube, confirmed some questions, and now i have no window decorations. No icons for close, minimize, maximize. No resizing by mouse. No title bar.
In the launcher, i lost applications and files&?, and in the top menu bar, i lost the leftmost part, where some menus and the Ubuntu icon were found.
after i udated to ubuntu 10.04LTS, i applied updates one night and after reboot the minimize, maximize and close buttons had moved from the upper right corner of ALL windows to the upper left corner. i would like to move them back to the original location but don't know where or which config file to look in.

View 4 Replies View RelatedToday my minimising, maximising, and closing buttons on the window border moved from the right to the left without any apparent reason. (At least i dind't ask them to). The other computer I work on didn't change though.
I use Gnome, Dust Sand theme on 10.04.
I really dislike having them there, how can i move them back where they belong?
I hooked up my computer to a TV via VGA and after I was done my icons moved around on the taskbar. Usually the 'kevin' was on the far right. Is there a way to change it back?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI like to start Emacs as part of a login script and leave it running for the duration of my login session (which is typically weeks).
I have scripts to call emacs-client which will allow me to use a file-manager or Windows Explorer to locate files and right-click to edit them in Emacs.
I often end up with a lot of emacs windows (frames) open and I like to just be able to close them by clicking on the MS-Windows or KDE X button at the top-right.
The trouble is, if the window is the last one, this will shut down emacs which will lose all kinds of interesting history information.
As a work-around I use C-x 5 0 which won't let me close the last frame but this is often not as convenient as using the mouse
Does anyone know how to configure Emacs so that it can intercept the Window-Close button of the last frame to either request confirmation or simply disallow it?
On MS-Windows, disallowing closing of the last window may cause logoff to hang if emacs is still running but I'm not too worried about that.
I have a script I only want to run when a window is being dragged around. Is there an environmental variable or something that will tell me whether one is moving and which one it is? I'm using Ubuntu Lucid if it matters.

How can I close or unbind a port forcibly from command line?
I know rebooting or log off and back on will clear the ports but this much slower process for me. I am looking for forcibly closing the port in command line.
I used linux for a long time now, mostly ubuntu-based distros but these days I decided to try openSUSE. Must say, It is a really nice distro, with lots of new features. There is one that I never seen before but I admit it is very useful: the auto resize window feature. I use the 11.3 (KDE) (milestone 4) version. Just wanted to ask if this is a package for ths or is hard-coded into the system? And is it KDE-specific?

View 9 Replies View Relatedrecently installed via synaptic some packages about netbook to try the new appearance. Having decided that I didnt like it, I chose to revert, by uninstalling those packagesMy problem now is that on every application I execute, the icons that are usually found on top right of the screen (minimize, maximize and close) cannot be seen and, if I want to shut an application down I must do it via control q or control w depending of the application. I mean every application, be it firefox, opening folders on the hard drive, open officeIt may be that there is still a package I must uninstall.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was using Compiz, and was going to check out the 3DBox add on. I clicked it, enabled it, and then my windows vanished. I rebooted. Then, when I came back, all my windows open now in the top left of the screen, and the close, minimize and maximize icons are gone. I cannot even see the top bar of a window to move it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedLast night everything was fine and running normally. When I booted up today all my windows have no borders and the maximize/minimize/close buttons are all gone! WTF? View 9 Replies View RelatedI have installed recently a bunch of distros and settled with xubuntu 11.04 for my old laptop. Everything worked fine out of the box except some times wireless stopped working and the pc needed a restart. One of those times i restarted and because restart seemed unresponsive I clicked again but a problem tab poped up. Every time that i clicked restart, the pop up appeard I was forced to force shutdown.
1. Maximize/Minimize/Close buttons are completly missing. Even windows settings (where you can unjust those buttons) does not work. It is blank.
2. Cursor is invisible but when i click something appears , stays visible but the cursor is a different icon than before.
3. other problems as well. I cannot move terminal etc.
In my desktop toolbar on the right side where my running applications are shown etc. I have some problems:
1) After a while and after some messages have been shown and applications started, there is a growing gap which gets larger. When I move the mouse over the gap, I see tooltips belonging to the application to the right which is always a different one so I assume that it is a toolbar problem and no application problem.
2) Some icons are not clickable with the left mouse button, e.g. Rhythmbox. When I left click on it, nothing happens.
3) When I open the volume control with a left click, I cannot close it by clicking somewhere else. I always have to click on the "Mixer" Button to see a whole window and then I can close it.
I'd like to set my ESC key to close any active window. Is it possible ?

Also I had wine to run an MS application I uninstalled wine, before uninstalling the application. The icons remain, do I need to re-install wine again, uninstall the application then uninstall wine? View 7 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed ubuntu, and right away from a fresh install programs would crash whenever I closed the last window. It doesn't give me any error messages, so I don't know what the problem is , just poof the programs is gone and I have to launch it again. This happens in almost every program, I've used except rtythmbox. it's not a big deal for the small programs that load instantly, but for firefox or openoffice it's big pain in the neck.
