Fedora :: Can't Get Synergy Setup Between Box And Two Windows Machines To Left And Right?
Nov 18, 2009
I'm trying out Fedora 12 and am so far impressed by the speed (long time Ubuntu user but by no means an expert). I can't get synergy setup between the fedora box and two windows machines to the left and right. Am I missing something (with the difference between Ubuntu & Fedore perhaps)?
we are having new printers. At the moment we over 1000 machines on multiple sites but no print server they are manually added on the machine ( I know don't ask).
Anyway there is no way they would let use a windows server so the only option I have is to use linux however I little unsure if it is capable of doing the job I need it to do. Basically I want to add the printers on the linux server either using samba or ipp (I would assume samba would be best).
The reason i want to do this is when we have to do around the machines I just want to go around the machines and just the map the printer and it brings down the driver and config etc as we want them to duplex. The issue is I been trying to gain information on the internet and getting conflicting information apparently I can add the windows driver onto the server so when I map the printer it brings it down. However some guides state you still have through the whole process of adding the printer and then choosing the driver etc. Which kinda of makes it pointless to do the printer server since I would already have to do this anyway if we don't have one.
I just want to go be able to go around the machines and for example click star run and do something like \192.168.1.1printer01 and then it done kind of thing.
My mother would like to get GNU/Linux installed on her laptop however she has a Windows desktop that she would like to share the keyboard/mouse with laptop and desktop - I found Synergy and it installs on both platforms, but does anyone know if I can share the mouse between a Windows and Linux system or do both have to be the same platform?
I've got a home server running Ubuntu Server 9.04 and several machines running Ubuntu Desktop (9.04 and 8.04) and Windows (XP, Vista and 7). Now what I want to do is to create a domain and directory server similar in function to Windows Server w/ AD and join my other machines to the domain, but am not sure where to start. I already have file shares with Samba but now I want to setup a domain.
What could block access from Fedora to just one Windows XP system without blocking access to or from other Windows systems on the network? I have a working Windows network with six computers and one network-attached-storage. Two of the computers (MARTIN and NANCY) are Windows XP, the rest are older. I set up a Fedora laptop with Samba. The Fedora system can access the Internet (I'm using it to post this message). It can see all the Windows systems, and it can open all of them except MARTIN. The firewall on MARTIN is turned off.
I go to Places, Network, and I see nine icons: the Fedora system, seven Windows systems and one for Windows Network. If I double-click on the MARTIN icon I get a message window that says "Unable to mount location" and "Failed to retrieve share list from server". If I double-click on any of the other Windows icons, including NANCY, a new window opens showing the shares on that system. Similar results with smbclient. It shows the shares for all systems except MARTIN. For MARTIN it says "Connection to MARTIN failed (Error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)."
The other Windows computers on the network can open the shares on MARTIN with no problem. The network is partly wired and partly wireless. The wireless network is secured with WEP. The Fedora laptop is (as you might expect) wireless. The Fedora laptop is an emachines E520 and both Windows XP machines are custom-built tower systems. I don't think that information is relevant but I mention it anyway. What should I look for?
I have a machine running fedora 10 that has a printer in cups that i want to share to the windows machines on the network.I cant find any mention of shareing printers in the cups interface
Does linux have any patch managment software/solution which can distribute the patches to linux and windows clients OR is it possible that we can deploy the patches from linux to windows machines
I have several Windoz machines in a peer-to-peer network and now two SUSE machines, one 11.1 and another 11.2.I have a network printer accessible now to all the machines. My next step is to be able to share files between all the machines and several network drives. I know how to set this up between the Windoz machines, but the only way I can get the SUSE machines to see the network (and be seen) is to shut down their firewalls, and I don't think that's how you are supposed to do it?Can someone point me to what it is that I need to read, or is there a FAQ somewhere to help get me started?
I think that this has something to do with Samba and I installed Samba (client or server? I forget) on the 11.1 and 11.2 seems to have it already built-in, but I don't know how to set it up with the firewalls on the two Linux machines so that it is all seamless (as if anything can be seamless).
I'm trying to ssh to a client machine which as freeipa client setup Login works great but ssh via GSS.Is there a way to see what's being sent where? I already have the highest debug turned on the ssh side.
I want to setup some virtual machines that will use the same architecture and debian-version as my host-machine. I have started to setup VMs with a netinstall-image and now want to add more software using apt-get. As most of the software I will use is already installed on my host-machine I wonder if there is any way to configure apt in such a way that it will not download packages from the internet, but will use the packages from my host-machine to save network-traffic. Is there a good may to populate VMs using the debs from the host-machine.
I have 4 debian boxes networked together through a basic 5 port switch. I am trying to simulate 2 Local Area Networks joined together by a WAN. Right now I can communicate with A <--> B, B<----> C, C<----->D. However, I cannot communicate with Host A to Host D which is the whole point of this experiment. It has to be my static routing is not right. This is a confusing area to me. Right now my routes are
I am trying to build a file server with RAID 5 over a couple of 1TB HDDs, to serve about 10 client machines using Ubuntu Server. I already own a 22-port switch: HP ProCurve v1810G-24 Switch (J9450A), which I am assuming will do the job. And for the actual server I am thinking of buying: HP ProLiant DL120 1U. Will this hardware suffice, or am I missing something important to get the whole thing running?
I am new to networking and trying to setup my own local area network using virtual box machines. I have installed BIND 9.7.3 using yum in Fedora (dns server) and created all necessary .conf and zone fil es. I am successfully able to resolve domain names on this host machine (dns server). for example dig @dns.domain.lan client1.domain.lan correctly resolves domain name.
I have currently have a PC with 16GB of RAM. I will be running multiple virtual machines using VirtualBox. Would I get the best performance from running the VMs on a Linux host, or a Windows host?
I'm trying to get Synergy up and running between my Windows 7 (server) host and my Arch Linux (client) host. In rare exception, synergy works perfect on my windows host, however every time I try and run Synergy on my linux machine I get the following error in messages.log:
[code]...
I'm running Arch with a barebones Xorg install and SLiM with LXDE. I'm not sure what in the world is causing the problem and haven't been able to find anything of substance in a search.
I am in verse to test "Multicast Packet filtering".I want to setup Virtual Machines to be servers with bind option set to a multicast group address of 225.0.62.87.Then I want to configure the client VM, connecting to the multicast group address and setting the TTL as needed.
I have searched google for a couple of days, and I keep hearing about an INode limit on filesystems, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Now whenever I try to download something, watch a ..... video, or listen to Pandora radio, it just stops playing after 2 seconds. Downloading says "No space left on device".I also get the error as root.I do have 5% and more free of HDD space. After reading the similar posts I checked all of this, so if I am overlooking something on the forum, I apologize for an extra post about.
I have a WD My Book Essential Edition hard drive that has 500GBs of storage that I want to use with ubuntu and my windows machines in my house. The drives are preformatted with NTFS. Does ubuntu natively support read/write of NTFS hard drives?
i set up samba and im trying to acces from windows xp. i can see the drive if i go to run and type the ip adress but when i click on the share i get an error that says "sharename" in this case "sam is not accessible" you might not have permission under this network resource. so how do i give myself permissions. I have followed several tutorials tried different types of set up , restart of samba and what not. but still nothing. I should mentioned that i have been at this for 3 days now and still cant get it to work. i have red hat linux 5.1 and window xp proffesional.
I have 15 or so debian lenny machines, and a xen server that I would like to join to the windows 2003 AD domain controller. The main goal is I would like the windows / linux user names and passwords to be the same on each system. Only 10 or so users need access to the machines but the passwords sometimes are different. How should I go about accomplishing this ?
I was told that openldap may be a solution. But from what I've read about it sounds like its just a mimic or window AD and doesnt sync with it, at least natively ?
I may be missing something very easy here, but I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit (I have also tried 10.04 32 bit) and I cannot connect to my windows machines. I can't connect by going to the network window, or by connect to server via ip. Basically, I can see the windows machines but then I double click it, and it asks for the credentials. I'm the admin of all of the machines, and I only have one login to my windows machine, which is my name First Last. I am entering this, and my password (which I'm sure is correct) and click "Connect". It thinks for maybe a half second, then presents me a blank credentials box, wanting me to start over.
I can connect to my Macbook without any troubles.
I'm using an Acer AspireRevo 1600, wired connection.
I have Ubuntu Server 10.04 running as a samba server and a VPN server using PPTPD. I am trying to connect two users to the VPN, which I am running Windows Ultimate on one, and Windows Home Premium.
Connecting to the VPN server from any location, I get an error 619 on the windows machines, and I have googled for what feels like days about the error and can't find a working solution. I look in the /var/log/messages file and see:
Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded. pppd 2.4.5 started by root, uid 0 Using interface ppp0 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/1 Modem hang up Connection terminated Exit.
Is there any way to resolve the hostnames of windows machines from linux systems. My environment is 80% windows and 20% linux.Domain controller,DNS,DHCP servers are on windows 2003. In linux systems,we just create local user account based on the user account created in domain controller, and give the dns servers ip address in the network settings.Authentication of users will be done locally. how to join these linux systems to windows domain so that authentication should be done by domain controller as well as host name resolution of windows systems and linux systems..
I am a Linux newbie. I am trying to see if it is possible to access a windows pc through some form of vpn/rdp setup. My machine is dual boot with Windows XP. On Windows XP, I am able to connect to my office via VPN client to connect to my office, then Remote Desktop to my local machine on the network.. Is there some way for me to do this with Linux? I find it really annoying to have to boot to Windows just to access my work pc.
I have installed Fedora 15 on a Acer Aspire one computer laptop. I have some missing windows for Network settings windows.First issue:When setting wep or wpa or wapa2 there is no windows to type in the passphase and key so the laptop can connect to the wireless netgear wireless router.Second issue:Once a password is typed in the one line access there is no way one can reset what has been typed in. Gassp! Check this out....one can highlite wireless and options does not light up. When one highlite wired options lightup and you can click on the tab 801.11something like that for wireless but this is for the wired not for wireless.....I know because I have tried it and had to reinstall fedora software because I could not remove the password and user name
I've been learning linux for a while now with half an eye on making a career out of it in future. One sizeable gap in my knowledge at the moment is networking. Is it feasible/desirable to set up a network of virtual machines to use as an environment to learn networking? My budget is non-existent so I was hoping to be able to get a basic understanding of the principles from installing a few desktops, a virtual gateway etc on VMware workstation on my laptop, and doing a lot of reading online.
Is this feasible, or will I just end up learning about virtual networks instead of real ones? Also how much power would be required, because my 3GB RAM lappy has just gone bang and all I have now is a (new) 1GB RAM lappy.
I used to have my print server with cups in openSUSE 11.1 and it used to work perfect. I was able to print from both linux machines and windows. But since I Installed openSUSE 11.2, I'm only able to print from linux machines. In windows XP I'am able to find the printer and install the drivers, and everything seems to work, but when I send the print command, it creates an error. I have three XP pcs that were running perfectly, and now neither one of them print, so I know is a problem with the server itself. I have all the samba and cups services activated, and the firewall is set correctly, but can't figure out why it is working with linux machines and not with windows.
