When i have a few windows open, a new window will open on the left side instead of the right after the previous windows. I'd to know how to have them open the standard way. I'd also like to know how prevent grouped windows of similar programs.

This is set up as a split window. Now, whenever I open dolphin, the right hand window is the "active" one. How does one make the left window the active one by default?
I am using nx client and I would like to ask your help. Is it possible when I connect from home to my work's computer (using nx client) to see the exactly same desktop-taskbar and open programs as I left them in my work computer.
Imagine that you are at work using your computer. You lock the keyboard and you go home(you didn't turn it off). You go home and you login to work's computer. What I want to see is the same if I was just unlocking works's computer. IS that possible and how?

When I have more than one or more windows open none of the show up on the taskbar, I'll show you what I mean.:
Although you can't see it from the picture, I actually have two windows open, both of which should show up on the taskbar (1.).
I can open windows by clicking on the button marked 2.
Is there something simple that I have missed?
I'm trying to find a way to make my Windows key the shortcut to opening my start panel in Lubuntu. I've found easy instructions for Ubuntu, but Lubuntu doesn't have the keyboard shortcuts utility that Ubuntu has (at least I can't find it).
I found some instructions for editing a config file but I can't find the command for opening the panel, and I've seen conflicting information about how the Windows key is written (some say W, some say Super_L), so I hesitate to start playing around with that file when I'm only guessing.
I've switched to Xubuntu and the procedure is obviously different How can I make my Windows key open the Applications Menu in Xubuntu?I found the keyboard shortcuts in the Settings menu but I see no option for adding a shortcut. It only shows the existing shortcuts.

The monitor configuration app always want the primary monitor to be on the left hand side, thus it always extend my desktop right. Can I do anything to extend my desktop to the left instead of to the right so I can have background application on the screen to the left?

I really love this wm, but I've one major problem; how do I make certain windows open the same size each time I open that program? For instance, I have a certain size I prefer for Pcmanfm, Vlc, deadbeef, and geequie, but every time I run them, they open anywhere on the desktop at all sorts of sizes. I especially hate resizing a video window when the video is playing.
I can do this in fluxbox, but I have a different set of problems with that window manager, namely, I can't organize my dockapps the way I want, despite editing the slitlist and some won't work at all. While I love Openbox, I can't get the windows sized right each time, either.
I would like to be able to make the Yast package manager stay open after installing or removing packages.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to map the same "Present Windows - All Desktops" action which is invoked by activating the top left corner of active screens via a keyboard shortcut? I basically want to ape OSX and have an expose-like button, the screen edge works fine for now, but I would love a keyboard shortcut also. Is it possible? Also, when I set up a custom keyboard shortcut to run yast, I initially tried using the same command from the KDE menu: /usr/bin/xdg-su -c /sbin/yast2
However, when I use the keyboard shortcut to launch this command, I get problems when trying to use zypper after the initial launch using the keyboard shortcut(from yast GUI or CLI). The error basically states another instance of yast2 already exists. The problem is only with the app/repo management modules though; for instance I can launch yast (using keyboard shortcut or start menu) and access hardware info, sudo users etc, I just can't access software/repo management stuff. Even when I kill the offending PID from the CLI I still get the error and have to restart the box to rectify it proper. So I changed the keyboard shortcut command to : /usr/bin/kdesu /sbin/yast2
and this seems to have resolved the problem. My second question is what is the difference between the two in this particular instance and why does one cause problems (xdg-su) and the other does not (kdesu).

I moved my recording studio's site to it's own domain. [it used to be a series of pages on my A&R site.]
I now need to create a '301 Redirect' in my old site's directory to redirect surfers (who have my old url) to the new site...but more importantly...to retain my ranking w/ the major search engines...!
It cannot be done on a Windows server (which I'm on, w/ GoDaddy)...not an .htm redirect anyway, which I need. I've tried all the php, asp, etc. scripts...they don't work. [&...I don't think I really need windows features like php or asp...I code my site(s) in Dreamweaver as html pages.]
so...If I migrate my site(s) to a Linux server...
1) Will standard .wma streaming continue to work...? (i.e., a .wax file in the directory that points to the .wma).
2) Which type of server is FASTER for this task...(if any)...Linux or Windows...?
On my dual-boot system, 11.4 and win7, Iped out the Doc and DL folders in my home directory and replaced 'em with links to the ones on the windows side. It works great except for one thing: When I open Dolphin in superuser mode and change the permissions to make myself the owner of those folders, the change doesn't take. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a webserver WWW1 and a front-facing proxy PRX. I use SSH ProxyCommand to connect to WWW1's internal IP (private IP) via PRX (private+public IP). For some connections (not all) I see a network connection left open after I'm finished. These add up!

On PRX, lsof | grep WWW1:ssh shows 124 open connections at the moment. On WWW1, the same command shows 243 open connections. There are similar open connections for WWW2, WWW3 etc.
WWW1 and PRX are Debian. Client connections are coming from a mix of Debian, Ubuntu and OSX10.6. I use Emacs Tramp but this has no special configuration (AFAIK) outside of my ~/.ssh/config. I'm concerned about running out of internal ports, and ideally I want these connections to clean themselves up without intervention. Ideally by configuring them to kill themselves off; failing that a command I can kill old processes with is fine!
I am using Fedora 13 64bit. My eclipse program starts a server on port 9050 but I shutdown the program, eclipse fails to properly shutdown the server. Restarting eclipse has no effect.
How can I close or unbind a port forcibly from command line?
I know rebooting or log off and back on will clear the ports but this much slower process for me. I am looking for forcibly closing the port in command line.
I set up an exim4 server successfully and was able to send/receive mail! I fired off a couple emails to my friend and never got a response. Oh well, I thought, must be because my domain name might be considered spam.Flash forward to today and I get an email from the people who host my server, telling me that I have left my exim4 relay open. I was burning a DVD+R DL when a read error happened and the burner program stopped execution. Now, when I ask for the disk status it says: 'disk status: open, not finalized' (Nero 7 under ms win xp). Besides this, I have at my disposal Cdrecord-ProDVD-Clone 2.01 and K3b 1.0.2 under KDE 3.5.7.
I got opensuse11.3 with KDE desktop. After installation everything was ok, but all of a sudden the right hand side of the taskbar (system tray) went in towards the left and I can't see the open windows in the task bar. I have gone through the panel settings and everything but the problem remains.

Having a strange video problem after recently up-ing to 11.4. When new windows open maximized, they are opening at the wrong size (slightly too small) resulting in a distorted view including 'broken' fonts (missing pixels). If I unmaximize the new window, and then re-maximize it, it now maximizes to the correct size and everything is fine.
Not sure if this is the right sub-forum, but it seems close enough. As stated in the title, how does one go about this? I know Fedora supports this, and was wondering if there was a way to configure it in OpenSuse. I haven't found anything in the Control Center about this, or on the internet for that matter.

I've tried to change in /etc/gnome/defaults.list :
But the problem is still here.
NB: I only need to click once on the icons of the files to open them (I changed the preference of Nautilus).
NB2: I have no problem with "Open with" in the context menu when right clicking.
NB3: I have no problem when I insert an Audio CD: Rhythmbox opens automatically because I selected that option.
I am running a week old 11.3 install with KDE (no desktop effects), compiz, nvidia. Last night I was working away. I had Thundertbird, Firefox, and VMWare Workstation open. Maybe something else, but I don't remember.
I was typing away. Maybe I hit something on the keyboard, but maybe not. All apps just disappeared, meaning that they're windows were not open and were not minimized to the panel. I could open *new* windows, and I fire up a terminal and ran top, which showed that they were all running, just not visible. Obviously, this is a Bad Thing.
I have installed virtualbox on opensuse 11.2 64bit.
