Ubuntu :: Moving Buttons To Left - Keep Moving Back

Mar 27, 2011

I like the buttons on the left. I'm running 10.04 & I know how to move them. The problem is that changing themes will move them back right. OK, if the new theme has them on the right that's OK. But going back to the other theme doesn't change them back. They don't seem to be controlled by the theme, or I'm just not doing it right.

Ubuntu :: Moving Buttons Back To The Left?

Jun 3, 2010

Bottom line up front: I'd like to move my window controls from the right corner to the left corner in 10.04.

All of my window controls (minimize, close, etc) are back on the right hand corner of the window, and after my upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 they were on the left. I briefly tried E16 with gnome, didn't like it, and removed all. This caused metacity to become unconfigured, and now all of the themes have window controls on the right.

Where can I fix it so the window controls are back where the 10.04 ubuntu wanted them?

General :: Moving Windows Buttons To Left Side On KDE 4?

Jan 21, 2011

I'm using KDE 4 under Slackware 13.1, and I'd like to move the minimize, maximize, and close buttons to the left side of the windows titlebar. Is there any way to do this on KDE? I've looked under all the windows options, and the 'Buttons' section only contained a list that didn't seem to have what I was looking for.I've only been using KDE for a couple of weeks, so I apologize if the answer is obvious, or if moving the buttons to the left is simply not an option. Any help would be appreciated.

now i have a fresh install of 8.04 (i had to uninstall it because i move partitions ad grub wents down, i tried EVERYTHING and nothing but reinstalling it)i used puppy linux to extract my files (home folder) and save it int a new ext3 partition, then when this ubuntu8.04 was OK, i tried to move my files back. i tried to doit from ubuntu, and i saw a little padlock on the folder, i tryed to move it, and i cant, then i restart to tryit form puppy, i was able to doit from puppy, then i restart again back to ubuntu, now with the folder in ubuntu partition i now have to put each file/folder where it was supposed to be, but again i saw some older with the padlock icon and with the same problem, that i can't move it because i have no permission. i tryed to find some help before opening this thread but all i want was to open a gksudo nautilus on terminal, but that doesnt fix anything, because that open a wibdows and i only can move "locked" files withing that folder, and those are my files i need to move it all the time, i can't open a gksudo nautilus every time i want to move one of my files.

Fedora :: Files Moving Themselves Back Again?

Jun 11, 2011

F15 Gnome edition. I am trying to move files, no big deal, except they keep moving themselves back again about 4-5 seconds later. This happens in nautilus, gnome-commander, or even at the command line. See the following output. The volume is NTFS, but I have ntfs-3g installed, and i've never had this problem before with NTFS volumes.

Code:
[root@kermitfed store]# ls
animalstore Cymande Groundation Mutiny

[code]...

Debian :: Safely Back Up Partitions Before Moving Them?

Jan 28, 2011

On my laptop, squeeze has /, /boot, /usr, /home and I think /tmp /var on separate partitions. I want more space for apps and to not have to be so frugal with /home. Earlier this week I shrank sda1, freeing up 40 GB. I wanted to start moving the squeeze partitions, but GParted logically enough denied it since they were mounted, duh. I'm glad for that, because I was getting overeager and hadn't made even a full system backup.

This is one of those situations where choice, while good, makes it hard to get started. I wouldn't mind using dump, but doesn't it inefficiently copy the whole partition regardless of empty space? I figure tar could do as well, but is it a problem that it doesn't preserve all the meta info? As a starting point, I'd like to have an "quick" and safe way to make sure that if something happens while moving partitions, I can do a restore. I can progress to more optimal solutions later on, like semi- or fully automated incremental backup.

So what is a sure-fire way to do this while preserving all info? Should I stick with something like clonezilla, can I manage it from within Debian (CLI, ready-made script, GUI), is there a still better way?

Ubuntu :: Moving The "close/maximize/minimize" Buttons On 10.04 LTS?

Jun 20, 2010

I like Ubuntu 10.04 LTS pretty much but the one thing that's kinda bothering me is the fact that the maximize, minimize and close buttons have been moved to the left hand corner of the windows. This isn't really too big a deal but like other people, I've gotten used to have those button over at the right hand side. Is there anyway to move the buttons back over there?

I downloaded the new skin but am unable to unzip or move it without /root permissions. I don't know how to acquire this without being in terminal. So I figured there had to be some way to go into the terminal and use it to move the unzipped folder from the desktop to the aMSN skins folder.

Ubuntu :: Moving OS From One HD To Another?

Jan 6, 2011

I want to move a 250GB IDE hard drive from a PC and repalce it with a smaller 40GB IDE HD. Currently the 250 GB drive is dual loaded with WinXP and Ubuntu desktop.

This PC is a kiosk style touch screen that I use as a home stereo and some other entertainment and household tasks. I have some hardware (touch screen, USB headset, wireless LAN card, sound card) that are proving to be problematic under Ubuntu. Currently this box is very usable under windows and I would like to just continue using the current build but with the new smaller HD.

I want to move that 250GB drive (along with several others) to a cluster and make a shared network space for file storage, music streaming, etc. but that's a project for another day.

None of us like that solution, and I wonder if its possible to move the bar on the bottom side of the screen so it will be a bit more Windows 7-ish? I've searched and looked everywhere so I just have to ask.

Ubuntu :: Moving To LTS From Upgraded 10.04

I was too impatient and upgraded to 10.04. The up-gradation was not without its flaws, but I have worked around a number of issues and I am happily working on it now.

I have installed a number of other software on the 10.04 upgraded version like Eclipse, GATE (NLP software), BasKet Notes, Thunderbird etc. If I install the LTS version will I have to re-download and install all of these things? Or is it portable?

I use only Linux on my laptop and so the stability is very important.

All i want off vista is music, pictures, and a few videos. how do i get them onto the ubuntu side, or allocate more space to use a friends external harddrive. I know Wine is used for WoW(problem solved) but how about ventillo and the rarely played EvE online? also if possible i need to bring those over as well. other than than Ubuntu kicks the **** out of any windows or mac OS ive ever used. but thats not sayin a whole lot.
