Ubuntu :: No Panels (top & Bottom) On New Install Of 10.04

Aug 4, 2010

I installed 10.04 twice on a recycled 10 year old Dell, using both a regular and an alternative live CD. With both installs, there were no top or bottom Gnome panels when I started up so I could not access the programs, make changes, etc. A message appeared asking if I wanted to delete the aplets (or panel?) the first time I started it up. I answered yes with the regular CD and no with the alternative, but did not see the massage again.

Maybe a command line, er, command?c

Ubuntu :: How To Move Panels To Different Screens

Dec 20, 2010

I'm setting up a second monitor connected to my laptop via Twinview in the Nvidea settings manager for my system. It is working just fine, except for the fact that when I enable it, it puts the Desktop panels on the secondary screen, as opposed to the primary one. Is there any way to make new panels on the primary screen, or to move them over to the primary screen? I am running Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on an HP Pavillion dv7 laptop.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.2 Display Needs To Move To The Left?

Jan 11, 2010

Need to shift display 3.4cm to 4cm to the left.

I have four computers hooked up via a KVM. On all of them except the computer in question the video is displayed properly. They all are Nvidia cards. I ran SaX2 but it doesn't have any way of tweaking the video over that I can see. I haven't installed the nvidia package yet but it doesn't have it either. Hitting the auto adjustment on the monitor every time I select this machine on the KVM isn't the answer. How do I get to the old video adjustment screen?

Ubuntu :: Get The Pop-up Text Balloons From The Unity Below It When Move The Mouse Over To The Left Side Of The Screen

Oct 28, 2010

I am running 10.10 Netbook Edition. I added Terminal Server Client to the Unity Menu and I typically run it in Full Screen mode to manage serveral windows based servers. The problem is that TSC displays perfect in full screen (unity tool bar hidden) but when i move the mouse over to the left side of the screen i get the pop-up text balloons from the unity below it. I cannot click on any items along the left edge of the remote desktop window including the windows start key. I want to confirm if this is a bug? and how to report it if so.

General :: Top/left Edges Of Screen In Virtualbox Act Like Bottom/right Edges

Apr 28, 2010

I have Virtualbox running on Windows Vista, and Debian running inside Virtualbox. Everything's running great, for the most part. Everything looks correct.

But when I'm in full-screen mode, the top edge seems to act (to the mouse) like it's the bottom edge, and the left edge seems to act like the right edge. For example, if I click in the middle of the desktop and drag left, as if to select some icons, when I hit the very leftmost pixel of the screen, the selection (but not the mouse pointer) jumps to the far right edge of the screen).

For the left edge, it's not such a big deal, but not having the top edge is kind of annoying: it means I can't select things from the menu in my top panel by slamming the mouse against the top of the screen.

Ubuntu :: Sidebar Thing Very Erratic - Move Mouse To The Left Edge Of The Screen - It Doesn't Always Appear

May 3, 2011

I'm not sure what to call the semi-transparent sidebar with a random collection of unconfigurable icons, but I don't think it's working properly.

1. When I move my mouse to the left edge of the screen, it doesn't always appear. Sometimes I have to move my mouse back and forth, back and forth, several times.

2. What it's doing right now is even worse... it appears, but as soon as I move the mouse a *little* bit to the right to actually click an icon, it disappears.

What is causing this? Surely it's a bug? How do I make the sidebar the absolute top priority for the screen edge so that it always catches it and appears? how do I configure it? I can't right-click on the sidebar itself. I can right-click and remove some icons. Other icons, like the grayed-out (but still active) "recent files" thing cannot be removed.

Ubuntu :: Two Panels At Screen Top - Panels Lose Order On Reboot

May 12, 2011

I find that I prefer have both panels located at the screen top. That way I don't have to go to the bottom of the screen for one thing, then back to the top for another. I arranged the panel so the regular top one is on top, then the panel that contains the open applications is underneath. The problem is, when I reboot, the panels lose their order. First, the regular top panel initializes, then the bottom ones starts and pushes the first panel down, which becomes what you see in the picture: I would like to find a way to keep them in the opposite order of what you see in the picture, but every time I reboot they end up in that order.
