After playing one of the kde games in squeeze- breakout - which I had a hard time exiting - and even after I restarted the computer the cursor will not go to the lower left corner of the desktop, where the kde menu button is.
View 1 RepliesI have a minimal debian install, with not much more than enough to run scrotwm, I want to change the basic arrow cursor to a png I have. Is there a simpler lower level way of achieving this without having to install and modify an existing cursor theme. I installed x11-apps just to get xcursorgen... though idk if this has been an essential step or not. Anyway, I have run it on my arrow.png/arrow.cursor to create a "default" cursor file... though am lost as to where to go from there. I have no idea where the existing default cursor is located, though i suspect it's a font cursor not a icon cursor...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI should note that I tried the Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 Live CDs and have experienced this in version 10.10's Live CD. I guess that narrows the problem to GNOME? Basically, moving the cursor horizontally takes less effort than moving it vertically. It feels as though there are separate axes for sensitivity and I don't know how to configure them. how to make it be normal again? (In Lenny, it was perfectly fine.)

I have filed a bug report and found one other bug report on this but haven't found a fix or any other info.
Have any of you used Debian 6 Squeeze yet? Have you encountered a problem of the OS not entirely filling in the left side of the video monitor leaving approximately (19 inch monitor) a half inch vertically black non-filled part?
This happens in several Debian 6 Squeeze itterations: Net-intall, commercial intalls, etc.
It could be a hardware problem but it happens on other machines as well, so I do not lean that way. There are other machinations of video pasting during bootup such as the left hand of the screen being on the right and vice-versa, scrunched up lines of garbage taking hold of certain sections of the screen.
recently downloaded banshee and found it pretty useful. however in the notes for the latest release it says that there is an option to have the cover artin the lower left hand corner. i can't figure out how to get to work at all. i have ubuntu 9.10 and Banshe1.6 Beta 2.would anyone have ideas please? i've spent a couple of hours on this and theres nothing on the net.

The monitor configuration app always want the primary monitor to be on the left hand side, thus it always extend my desktop right. View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem with debian lately. It seems that sometimes a rectangular corner on the top left of my screen freezes and shows what was previously there. It goes away when I close all open windows but shows up again if I open multiple applications, especially if I open the terminal and another application. It can become very distracting and makes it impossible to see what is on the top left corner of my screen.

I've got a problem with my Arch flashdisk. When I start xorg, my mouse cursor keeps moving left until it reaches the edge of the screen, where it stops. I checked the connector, etc., but it didn't help, so I guess it's software-related.What can be causing the problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason the mouse curser starts out in the middle of the screen after booting as normal but as soon as i move it, it gets stuck in the top left corner of the screen.It still responds to clicks and i can sometimes see it "wants" to move but itets repositioned into that corner.he problem exists in the live-cd session as well as in the installed session.I looked into the Xorg.0.log file and it said something along the lines of:Code:HID XXXX:XXXX: failed to initialize for relative axesI suspect this to be the culprit, yet i've never had any problems with the mouse in any other operating system (writing from kubuntu 9.10 right now) and i've used most of the popular ones.Is there anything i can do about it? View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally got around to installing Fedora 15 on my HTPC. I noticed that the mouse cursor starts in the upper left corner of the screen as soon as the login screen appears. This means that after login, if I only used the keyboard so far, the Gnome Shell overlay starts immediately.This is at most an interesting quirk until I try to set XMBC to automatically launch. Now I have to press <Esc> or move the mouse to de-activate the overlay before I can use the program.Is this mouse cursor thing intended behaviour, is there some software fix, or is it a hardware quirk? So i do a drive to drive clone (witn both hd's deing connected to another machine). And it says its done and okay. But the second (cloned) machine doesnt boot. And have the black screen with the blinking white cursor in top left corner. I have already tried to do fdisk /mbr and also copying partition table from original to destination disk. Because i think it is logical that with a drive to drive clone it sould be copied. But i have a doubt in that somehow. Because why would it not boot if it was copied then
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis issue was solved On June 9th. Root cause was Kore 2 controller device being misinterpreted as a pointing device. I hope to eventually use the Kore as a straight-up MIDI controller in Ubuntu Studio, but that's a long way off. For now I will unplug it whenever I boot Ubuntu Studio. XINPUT LIST gave me the hint I needed to figure this out. Original post and problem resolution thread follows:
I'm a total Linux newbie, but well versed in Windows. Just installed Ubuntu Studio 10.10. This was a clean install, not an upgrade.. Installation went fine, but when I boot into it, I get the cursor stuck at the upper left corner of the screen. When I move the mouse, the cursor will move, but it immediately jumps back to the upper left corner. I can't select anything except to open the main menu. Then I must use keyboard cursor control to navigate.

Two days ago, the down arrow cursor key quit working on my usb keyboard. I could go up, or left and right, but not down. I figured the key was broke and pulled out a PS/2 keyboard and plugged it in. Problem seemed to be solved.This morning, the down arrow cursor key again was not working. I thought that was a weird coincidence, so I plugged in the old usb keyboard, and the down arrow cursor key was again working!
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my desktop with Squeeze the resolution is all different when I booted up this morning. It used to be something like 1680 x 1050 and now the highest available under system > preferences > monitors is 1360 x 768. I don't believe I have had any xorg.conf file on here since installation. There were a fair number of updates yesterday but I can't figure out what the source of this might be. My system is multiboot, though nothing but Squeeze has been booted for months.
I checked a different old linux distribution and it had the same problem but with even lower resolution. It shares the same home partition which has Gnome settings on it. Then I checked the w vista boot and even it had a similar problem of low resolution, though I was able to fix it by hand, selecting the higher resolution. So I can't figure out if the source of this problem is hardware, software, or what. I've checked all the connections and they seem tight.
I've been using Linux for about 8 years now, including Red Hat, Debian, Fedora, Mandrake (now Mandriva), Libranet (R.I.P.), and an aborted foray into Gentoo (not my cup of tea). A few years ago, I switched to Ubuntu, and now I use it everywhere. It runs my Mythtv dvr at home, powers my laptop, and my desktop at work. I'm now considering with some reluctance to return to Debian. I like the basic principles of Debian, and now don't feel I need the latest and greatest packages. However, Ubuntu has generally "just worked" in a desktop setting. Anyone with Ubuntu experience tried Squeeze as a desktop OS yet? How does it compare to Ubuntu?

I have rebuild my system, with an Asus motherboard M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 with radeon 4250 integrated 8 Gb memory
Athlon II 4x 640 2 x 1 TB sata3 WD Harddisks I installed 10.10 64bit, and ran through the whole install with the alternate CD without problems, Installed grub in the MBR on the 120 Gb partition for 10.10, it even recognised my 2 3ware pci raidcontroler on which 8.04 is installed.
When I start I get grub, when I choose for 10.10 I get a black screen with a cursor blinking in the left uppercorner. Luckily I can start into 8.04. I have no idea how to continu. for now I will burn a knoppix cd so I can read the ext4 partition with 10.10 and hope to find something to solve this.
Installed linux mint in a virtual box (ose).Only problem,can't get the cursor out of the window,thus unabling me to unmount the iso so keeps reinstalling.Does anyone know how to set it so I can get the cursor to move outside the virtual box.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Debian Squeeze 6.0.1a i386 via download DVD image from [URL]. Eventhough I specifically selected "Desktop" from installation menu, only basic system is installed.
I have only 1st DVD, which I understand is sufficient for desktop setup. if I have missed any of the steps or any saperate installation is required.
After unsuccessfully trying to install some updates on my debian squeeze system, I can no longer login to gnome when I restart the system. I've tried logging in both as root and as user and have typed in 'startx' or 'gnome-session' at the prompt but I get an error message "**(gnome-session:12020): WARNING **: Cannot open display:". I've searched the web for solutions but nothing works. I've had my debian squeeze for over three years now with no issues.
