Ubuntu :: Keyboard Responding After 2sec Of Pressing A Button?

Jan 17, 2010

Yesterday night everything was normal until I rebooted to Fedora. This morning I switched back to Kubuntu 9.04 and the keyboard had a strange behaviour. Every button needs to be pressed ~2 sec. in order the letter to show up. And that happens in every application (shell, firefox, etc). I tried to upgrade to 9.10 hoping that it will return to defaults but the problem persist. Please help solve this issue, my work is hanging and all the programs I'm using at the moment are installed on my Ubuntu partition.

Ubuntu :: Gloobus Preview Closes On Pressing Preferences Button?

May 26, 2010

I just installed Nautilus Elementary and Gloobus Preview, and am having a problem with Gloobus Preview. At first, when I pressed the gear icon, the menu would come down. Then, I changed toggled the preferences so that Gloobus Preview would quit when it lost focus, and so that it would always be on top. Now, whenever I click the gear, Gloobus Preview shuts down. I ran it from the terminal, and nothing abnormal happens when it quits from a gear press. Could it be something about the close button position being goofed up? I don't think so, because the expand picture button also makes it quit. It's weird, though, because the open in application button on Gloobus Preview doesn't "crash" it. It opens up in the Image Viewer. I tried modifying the preferences in /usr/bin, but that didn't do anything. Purging and reinstalling also does nothing.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Boot After Pressing Reset Button Due To Wine App Hangup

Mar 26, 2010

I am working as system administrator for the past 5 years, but only on Windows XP systems, I recently moved to Linux, frankly speaking a few days ago, and i got many problems with it. may be as i am a beginner. My Problem started with Ubuntu 9.04 amd 64 and now with 10.04 beta.

The main problem I installed the wine (I am aware that wine is not compatible with all softwares of microsoft) and Installed microsoft office 2007 and it installed successfully but after installation when I launched Microsoft Excel it got hanged (only the Microsoft excel) and loading logo stood on top of all applications, then I decided to restart and pressed the restart button from menu on the right top. but there was no further response, then I pressed the reset button after waiting for 3-4 minutes to get rid of that logo of Microsoft in the center of my screen.

Now, when the Ubuntu was booting, Text arrives and disappears fast saying dev/file system has errors the logo of Ubuntu 10.04 and dots of loading at the bottom arrived and text written in the bottom of that "on of the drives needs to be checked, please wait it may take some time" Press 'C' to cancel disk check up. Now, its checking for a long time maybe for 30 minutes and the bottom text disappears and the loading Ubuntu 10.04 logo still remains and nothing happening after that.

I Pressed alt+crtl+del 2 times, it restarts saying that saving some alsa process, then again the same thing after restart. If I press C, it displays in the bottom of Ubuntu 10.04 logo "/File system has errors" and the loading screen remains like that. Now what is the solution and what are the precautions to be taken while using Ubuntu, as I was interested in introducing Ubuntu to marketing managers of offices, who wonder on the Internet all the time finding stuff and getting attacked by viruses. If this type of problems continue in Ubuntu, it will not be safer to use it, as if it wont boot during sudden power failures, that could result in a big problem.

OpenSUSE :: KDE Tends To Freeze Momentarily After Closing A Window - Pressing A Button

Sep 29, 2010

KDE tends to freeze momentarily after performing some tasks, like closing a window, pressing a button that should result in an option pane being popped, or simply trying to drag a window around the desktop. It doesn't happen every single time, but it's very persistently. I first noticed that the mouse would freeze sometimes when I do something like close a window and it takes 3~4 seconds for me to get control back, and for the task that I requested (close a window for instance) to be carried out.

During this time, I notice that all of KDE freezes up because my binary clock widget freezes as well. Is this a known problem with KDE? Can somebody give me some advice as to what might be causing this behaviour? I recall having similar problems back when I first tried 11.0, but back then it was so bad that I ended up going with Gnome. Now KDE has me hooked again, except for this one niggling issue. If I can get this resolved, then I think I will finally have an absolutely stable linux desktop.

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Pressing The Key To Fast

Jan 11, 2010

I have a Asus EEE 1000h with ubuntu 9.10 remix. A problem on first asus eee's is the keyboard: also just typed a letter once, the laptop writes it double (every 200 letters more or less). For example it looks like this while writing: "thiss is a ttest" For Windows XP I found a way to fix it: i increased the time, that limits writing letters twice by fast typing. Its not the time "Repeat Keys" Delay (Keyboard Settings "Key presses repeat when key is held down")! In fakt its the opposite: It limits pressing the key to fast. (I hope you understand the problem *g)

Ubuntu :: Touchpad Stops Working After Pressing The Touchpad Toggle Button

May 7, 2010

I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

With the exception that it was working fine for quite some time, it used to periodically, and randomly do this out of the blue. Meaning I can come up with nothing logical to tell me why it stops working. The only hint is that the problem first occurred after my upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10.

Ubuntu :: Keyboard And Mouse Not Responding?

Jan 17, 2011

Kubuntu 10.04 all updates until today.

All of the sudden my keyboard and mouse are not working any more. At login window keyboard is working OK so I can login (mouse is not working), but after login, keyboard is not responding unless I press the key for few moments (perhaps a second) until a keyrepeat begins. Only then key is accepted and echoed on screen.

Funny thing is, if I login as some other user, everything works as expected.

I have already ran Xorg -configure as su, but it didn't resolve the problem.

Ubuntu :: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard Stops Responding?

Dec 2, 2010

I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2 and Microsoft Explorer Mouse Model 1362. The biggest issue I have right now is with the keyboard. The keyboard will start cutting out and not responding to keys. As soon as the cpu load drops then all is well. I have a PS2 keyboard that I keep plugged in just in case the load stays high and I need to type something. The mouse and the keyboard have seperate usb dongles, and when the keyboard is having issues the mouse is still working great. This tells me that either the USB radio for the keyboard gets turned off, or that something on my machine is weird. I have seen the EXACT same behaviour on 32bit and 64bit linux distros.

CPU: AMD X3 720 oc'ed to 3.22GHZ
MOBO: Biostar
RAM: 8GB
Video: HIS ATI 4890 (using FGLRX)
HD: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM drive
OS: Ubuntu 10.10 (tested also with Fedora 14, OpenSUSE 11.3)

Note: it happens with very little load and high load. Of course high load it happens all the time.

OpenSUSE Install :: Keyboard And Mouse No More Responding?

Feb 5, 2010

On our SuSe 11.1 PC keyboard and mouse are no more responding although it did work properly until yesterday. We shut down the computer yesterday evening and today they do not work anymore. But it is not a hardware problem, we can use keyboard and mouse until Grub bootloader, but as soon as we start a Linux session (doesn't matter if normal or failsave mode) the keyboard and mouse are disabled, we can see that because the NumLock and CapsLock LEDs are switched off immediately.

We have no idea what happened. We booted from CD into rescue mode and mounted the hard disk manually and checked some logfiles, but the boot.log tells us that USB keyboard and mouse are detected, as well as the Xorg.0.log file. And we found no indication that keyboard or mouse are disabled or something like that.

Hardware :: Keyboard Quits Responding, Alt-F3 And Alt-F7 Restores It?

Feb 23, 2011

I have not reliably been able to reproduce this. It seems somewhat random. Additionally, clicking on any of the Ubuntu menu items such as Places, or Applications does not pull down the menu. Mouse seems to work other than that. If I press Alt-F3 and then Alt-F7, everything returns to normal. Any ideas what is causing this or if there is a known fix?

Slackware :: Windows Stop Responding To Keyboard (13.1)?

Jun 1, 2010

I upgraded to 13.1 from 13.0 a few days ago. I have a Toshiba Satellite L3655D that I leave on constantly. Twice now, I have woken up to windows (urxvt and firefox) that don't accept keyboard input. I can paste into them and they respond, clicking is fine, but the keyboard either barely sends or is completely ignored - if I tap a bunch of keys, one or two might go through, eventually. New windows work fine, so I have to replace everything I have open.

edit:I switched to XFCE for 2 days and the issue didn't appear, but my other laptop with the same fluxbox settings also did not have any problems. I switched the original laptop back to fluxbox (and happened to upgrade the ATI drivers around the same time) and haven't had it happen since. If this happens to you, try restarting X.
