Feb 2, 2011I am having problem in shut down.Sometimes my didnot get close on pressing shut down button.A black screen appears and two leds of keyboard continously blinks.

Ubuntu :: Pressing Shut Down Twice?
May 31, 2011ive just upgraded to ubuntu 11 and everything is good so far i love it but for some reason I have to press shut down twice as it does not seem to register the first time. This also happens with restart does anyone else have this problem or am i missing something ?? Just to clarify im clicking on the power icon in the top right then selecting shut down in the menu (not the power button on my computer).

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Responding After 2sec Of Pressing A Button?
Jan 17, 2010Yesterday night everything was normal until I rebooted to Fedora. This morning I switched back to Kubuntu 9.04 and the keyboard had a strange behaviour. Every button needs to be pressed ~2 sec. in order the letter to show up. And that happens in every application (shell, firefox, etc). I tried to upgrade to 9.10 hoping that it will return to defaults but the problem persist. Please help solve this issue, my work is hanging and all the programs I'm using at the moment are installed on my Ubuntu partition.

May 26, 2010I just installed Nautilus Elementary and Gloobus Preview, and am having a problem with Gloobus Preview. At first, when I pressed the gear icon, the menu would come down. Then, I changed toggled the preferences so that Gloobus Preview would quit when it lost focus, and so that it would always be on top. Now, whenever I click the gear, Gloobus Preview shuts down. I ran it from the terminal, and nothing abnormal happens when it quits from a gear press. Could it be something about the close button position being goofed up? I don't think so, because the expand picture button also makes it quit. It's weird, though, because the open in application button on Gloobus Preview doesn't "crash" it. It opens up in the Image Viewer. I tried modifying the preferences in /usr/bin, but that didn't do anything. Purging and reinstalling also does nothing.

Mar 26, 2010I am working as system administrator for the past 5 years, but only on Windows XP systems, I recently moved to Linux, frankly speaking a few days ago, and i got many problems with it. may be as i am a beginner. My Problem started with Ubuntu 9.04 amd 64 and now with 10.04 beta.
The main problem I installed the wine (I am aware that wine is not compatible with all softwares of microsoft) and Installed microsoft office 2007 and it installed successfully but after installation when I launched Microsoft Excel it got hanged (only the Microsoft excel) and loading logo stood on top of all applications, then I decided to restart and pressed the restart button from menu on the right top. but there was no further response, then I pressed the reset button after waiting for 3-4 minutes to get rid of that logo of Microsoft in the center of my screen.
Now, when the Ubuntu was booting, Text arrives and disappears fast saying dev/file system has errors the logo of Ubuntu 10.04 and dots of loading at the bottom arrived and text written in the bottom of that "on of the drives needs to be checked, please wait it may take some time" Press 'C' to cancel disk check up. Now, its checking for a long time maybe for 30 minutes and the bottom text disappears and the loading Ubuntu 10.04 logo still remains and nothing happening after that.
I Pressed alt+crtl+del 2 times, it restarts saying that saving some alsa process, then again the same thing after restart. If I press C, it displays in the bottom of Ubuntu 10.04 logo "/File system has errors" and the loading screen remains like that. Now what is the solution and what are the precautions to be taken while using Ubuntu, as I was interested in introducing Ubuntu to marketing managers of offices, who wonder on the Internet all the time finding stuff and getting attacked by viruses. If this type of problems continue in Ubuntu, it will not be safer to use it, as if it wont boot during sudden power failures, that could result in a big problem.

OpenSUSE :: KDE Tends To Freeze Momentarily After Closing A Window - Pressing A Button
Sep 29, 2010KDE tends to freeze momentarily after performing some tasks, like closing a window, pressing a button that should result in an option pane being popped, or simply trying to drag a window around the desktop. It doesn't happen every single time, but it's very persistently. I first noticed that the mouse would freeze sometimes when I do something like close a window and it takes 3~4 seconds for me to get control back, and for the task that I requested (close a window for instance) to be carried out.
During this time, I notice that all of KDE freezes up because my binary clock widget freezes as well. Is this a known problem with KDE? Can somebody give me some advice as to what might be causing this behaviour? I recall having similar problems back when I first tried 11.0, but back then it was so bad that I ended up going with Gnome. Now KDE has me hooked again, except for this one niggling issue. If I can get this resolved, then I think I will finally have an absolutely stable linux desktop.

Feb 3, 2011i was so happy using the window buttons applet in gnome panel. it was working fine in maximize window , now suddenly i find the close button has vanished i tried to remove and re install, changed theme and all the jugglery within my limits... have absolutely no idea what went wrong, any clue ? to get back the "CLOSE" button ? its funny with just the minimize and restore button visible in maximised mode... its the close button i use most in maximise mode

Feb 7, 2010If I log out or shut down Ubuntu with Transmission still open, the next time I start Transmission it will verify the local data, which take a very long time because I have lots of torrents. Does anyone knows how I can prevent this without having to explicitly close Transmission every time?
If I explicitly close Transmission before shutting down Ubuntu, it works fine.
I'm using Ubuntu and 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and Transmission 1.75

Dec 18, 2009I'm having some trouble getting all my wines programs to work together. When I change workspace or minimize dvd decrypter it disappears but is still running in the background, this is fixed by running it in an emulated desktop but I would like to have it working without the emulated desktop. When I have dvd decrypter in an emulated desktop and autogk running if I close dvd decrypter it closes all wine apps. I think wine shuts down everything when its emulated desktop is closed.

Jun 25, 2010We are planning the migration fro Karmic to Lucid for our systems, these systems are custom Ubuntu installations, we create them using debootstrap and then running a script that installs desired packages, mainly X server and (optionally) fluxbox.
I've set up a hard drive with our current scripts (the only modifications were the change of lucid instead of karmic for update servers and removing usplash from our scripts), but I've found that pushing the power button would not shut down the system (we have no GDM or similar), the system does not respond to this event as used to do under Karmic.
Do you know where I can check/enable the system to shutdown when pushing the power button?

May 7, 2010I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

The problem I have is (since I've installed Xubuntu) every time I start up my laptop it just hangs with a little flashing white stripe in the top of the left corner (like every start up). Then when I shut down the laptop using the power button and start it up again it works. How can this be possible? On start up, it hangs, while on the restart it always works. Which means I have to restart my laptop every single time.

When I came back to the computer, there was a prompt to restart, but also an error message. I didn't catch the error message until I had clicked the restart button. Now, when I try to access Ubuntu from the dual-boot menu (I run Vista as well), I keep getting the following error message.

Double-click the menu button on the top-left of the window to close it.It doesn't work for me right now in KDE, and I can't find any option to enable it. Googling gave a few hits of people requesting this feature in gnome, but no clear instructions on how to enable it in KDE or whether it's possible. (Though perhaps my Google-fu is just weak...)

May 24, 2010Why don't JACK windows behave in the standard way windows have, on every piece of software. for all OS's for many years? I haven't had the opportunity to test Jack audio in/out yet because of these problems. However, Jack does appear to start and indicates it is connected. After the Jack control panel loads normaly and appears to be connected, if I open the patchbay or messages panels, they cant be closed as individual windows. To close them I must QUIT Jack, and reopen, and reconnect. There is no exit button on the upper right corner of these windows.
If I right-click on these windows, the close option is shaded, preventing it's use. The Jack control panel does not appear to have drop-down menus to close them, either. If I accidentally do click the button in the upper right corner, which is habitual, the window will maximize to a scale that is somewhat larger than the size of the desktop on my screen, making resizing by dragging edges (top, bottom, corner) impossible. If I right click on the Jack Window's title bar (top) I can resize the window to my preference by clicking this option on the drop-down menu. It took me three or four weeks to find this option.
Also, I've seen some posts regarding Jack problems related to Firefox. Does Jack actually start Firefox when it opens or is connected? My system can't afford to have background processes or applications. System resources are too limited. I don't understand the difficulties involved with making Jack windows function as others do. It seems to my uneducated self, for example, that if the development of Jack had been done on some "visual" high level language, (Like C/C++ or Java, for example) making the windows function like others packages would simply be a matter of dragging GUI elements and defining their functions.
Here's a list of my system:
Old Single processor Intel box, P4, 3.0 GHz, with one Gig DDR memory
A old Sound Blaster 16 sound card. (works okay with linux)
(all hardware seems to be fully functional in all other Linux programs)
Linux Mint, (version 8) derived from Debian.
Ubuntu Studio, (version 10.4) also Debian.
Jack (version 0.3.4) on both distros. (Mint updated through repository< I believe, but I culd be wrong)
Firefox (version 3.5.9)
I prefer GUI solutions, but can generally get along okay with a terminal or file editor window. When it's absolutely necessary. The windows behave the same if I have another audio program running or not. The system works fine with ALSA drivers (MIDI.)
Ubuntu :: Logout / Shut Down Button "Greyed" Out?
Jul 25, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 10.2 running Gnome. I have notice the last couple of times I have started my desktop that the Shut Down button is greyed out, the button does not respond when the mouse goes over it nor to being clicked. When this happens I remove the non-functioning button and add it again fresh and the following restart it happens all over again. I added this button manually to a panel by right-clicking on it and selecting "Shut Down" in the first menu that appears.
