Feb 3, 2011i tried resetting my linux based PC and it did not come up thereafter. i power off and on the PC, yet it did not come on. i assistance in resolving this problem.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Boot After Pressing Reset Button Due To Wine App Hangup
Mar 26, 2010I am working as system administrator for the past 5 years, but only on Windows XP systems, I recently moved to Linux, frankly speaking a few days ago, and i got many problems with it. may be as i am a beginner. My Problem started with Ubuntu 9.04 amd 64 and now with 10.04 beta.
The main problem I installed the wine (I am aware that wine is not compatible with all softwares of microsoft) and Installed microsoft office 2007 and it installed successfully but after installation when I launched Microsoft Excel it got hanged (only the Microsoft excel) and loading logo stood on top of all applications, then I decided to restart and pressed the restart button from menu on the right top. but there was no further response, then I pressed the reset button after waiting for 3-4 minutes to get rid of that logo of Microsoft in the center of my screen.
Now, when the Ubuntu was booting, Text arrives and disappears fast saying dev/file system has errors the logo of Ubuntu 10.04 and dots of loading at the bottom arrived and text written in the bottom of that "on of the drives needs to be checked, please wait it may take some time" Press 'C' to cancel disk check up. Now, its checking for a long time maybe for 30 minutes and the bottom text disappears and the loading Ubuntu 10.04 logo still remains and nothing happening after that.
I Pressed alt+crtl+del 2 times, it restarts saying that saving some alsa process, then again the same thing after restart. If I press C, it displays in the bottom of Ubuntu 10.04 logo "/File system has errors" and the loading screen remains like that. Now what is the solution and what are the precautions to be taken while using Ubuntu, as I was interested in introducing Ubuntu to marketing managers of offices, who wonder on the Internet all the time finding stuff and getting attacked by viruses. If this type of problems continue in Ubuntu, it will not be safer to use it, as if it wont boot during sudden power failures, that could result in a big problem.
Ubuntu :: Keyboard Responding After 2sec Of Pressing A Button?
Jan 17, 2010Yesterday night everything was normal until I rebooted to Fedora. This morning I switched back to Kubuntu 9.04 and the keyboard had a strange behaviour. Every button needs to be pressed ~2 sec. in order the letter to show up. And that happens in every application (shell, firefox, etc). I tried to upgrade to 9.10 hoping that it will return to defaults but the problem persist. Please help solve this issue, my work is hanging and all the programs I'm using at the moment are installed on my Ubuntu partition.

Sep 29, 2010KDE tends to freeze momentarily after performing some tasks, like closing a window, pressing a button that should result in an option pane being popped, or simply trying to drag a window around the desktop. It doesn't happen every single time, but it's very persistently. I first noticed that the mouse would freeze sometimes when I do something like close a window and it takes 3~4 seconds for me to get control back, and for the task that I requested (close a window for instance) to be carried out.
During this time, I notice that all of KDE freezes up because my binary clock widget freezes as well. Is this a known problem with KDE? Can somebody give me some advice as to what might be causing this behaviour? I recall having similar problems back when I first tried 11.0, but back then it was so bad that I ended up going with Gnome. Now KDE has me hooked again, except for this one niggling issue. If I can get this resolved, then I think I will finally have an absolutely stable linux desktop.

Ubuntu :: Gloobus Preview Closes On Pressing Preferences Button?
May 26, 2010I just installed Nautilus Elementary and Gloobus Preview, and am having a problem with Gloobus Preview. At first, when I pressed the gear icon, the menu would come down. Then, I changed toggled the preferences so that Gloobus Preview would quit when it lost focus, and so that it would always be on top. Now, whenever I click the gear, Gloobus Preview shuts down. I ran it from the terminal, and nothing abnormal happens when it quits from a gear press. Could it be something about the close button position being goofed up? I don't think so, because the expand picture button also makes it quit. It's weird, though, because the open in application button on Gloobus Preview doesn't "crash" it. It opens up in the Image Viewer. I tried modifying the preferences in /usr/bin, but that didn't do anything. Purging and reinstalling also does nothing.

General :: Server Will Not Boot Without Pressing F1
Jun 28, 2010I have a file server running Ubuntu 9.04, with 2 1Tb Drives. I did a normal shutdown, and when I attempted to start the server again, it returns an error of Drive error. Then I must press F1 to resume. If I disconnect the 2nd Hard disk it will boot normally after pressing F1. If I leave the Disk connected it just hangs up after pressing F1. I can run it with 1 disk, but I cannot run it headless if I have to press F1 to start it every time.

After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

Dec 7, 2010So I run a dual-boot win7/ubuntu system and out of nowhere I am now unable to boot into ubuntu. I get up to the screen where I select which OS to boot into, then I select ubuntu, get the wubldr messages and then my computer instantly resets back to the original load screen.
This comes paired with a bad boot into my windows partition so I feel like they may be related. I did a system repair and now windows works though. I'm defraging my harddrive now just to see if it works.

Fedora Servers :: Xorg.conf Reset, Now Want Boot To Desktop?
May 13, 2009Edited 5/14/2009, No-Replies have read everything I can find trying to resolve problem. Continued at * so order may be followed.Fairly new to Fedora, I had reset my Monitor setting from the Graphical Interface on the Desktop, (got an out of range error) Was able to SSH in and reset Xorg to correct values, however now the server does not boot to the Graphical Desktop, just has a spinning blue circle on black background. The server has booted and I can get in with SSH, all functions of the server appear to be working correctly, i.e.web, mail, ftp, etc. However it never goes to the Graphical login page as before.*Fedora 8..the perfect server + ISPconfig. On boot when Fedora states press any key I can edit the following line:

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 - Boot System Forces Hard Reset
May 6, 2009I'm new to Linux, tried Ubuntu, had slow boot problems, tried openSUSE 11.1, still have slow boot problems. The issue seems to be that the ata.0 device is slow to respond (ERROR= -16), the boot system forces a hard reset, then a soft reset, configures for UDMA 133, says the drive is ready, then does it again, three times, and then configures the drive for UDMA 100. It's a brand new Western Digital Caviar drive, and windowsXP likes it just fine. Once SUSE boots, everything seems to work just fine. I thought the problem might be with the drive jumpers, so I reset them from cable detect to master/single. No change in the problem.

Apr 6, 2010First of all, i'll just say this myself. I'm a dumbass and tried to fix somethings that wasn't even a problem from the start and now my 9.10 installation is totally fubar. There, done, now let's move on.
Ok, so I tried to delete a folder after compiling two binaries to the wrong folder and used the

command on what I thought was the folder /home/lars/bin. And to add to the dumbass-ering, I was root while doing this. The computer hangs and leaves me with no other options than doing a hard-reset via power-button.
After rebooting I can't even see the login screen, it just hangs at the Ubuntu symbol.
So I give the recovery mode option in my grub menu a try and it gives me a bunch of lines, all looking good until I get this and the boot just stops with a blinking underscore. code...
Should I just beat myself for a while and then reinstall the OS or what...?
The hardware involved is a Asus EEEpc 1000h.
ps. I'm new to Linux and have so-far managed to get around by following guides and tips, just a heads-up.

I used to have an old fashioned 1280x1024 flatscreen.Now the problem is, every single time when I log on Ubuntu resets my screen res. to 1280x1024. So every time I have to use the Nvidia Settings to set my screen res to 1920x1080 and every time I have to place my panel widgets back in the right place and order, because of that, which is quite annoying.GDM has no problems though, it always displays in the right resolution.I use a Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card and the nvidia-current driver on Ubuntu 10.04 i386. I cannot use the Gnome monitors manager to set my resolution. Every time it sends me to Nvidia Settings.This is my Xorg.conf;
