Hardware :: Wireless Button Disabled And Not Responding, , On HP 6735s?

Oct 12, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 in an HP 6735s and cant get wireless to work, it seems that the wireless button is not working cause it is in orange color ( disabled ) and when I press it it doesnt change into blue ( enabled ) . There is a version of windows on other partition and wireless works and the button enables/disables

I tried the bios option of "load default values" that should enable the button by default but it does not work...

Bellow copied some info.

dmesg | grep Broadcom

Ubuntu Networking :: HP Pavilion Wireless Enable/Disable Button / "Wireless Disabled By Hardware Switch"?

May 11, 2011

I've had a host of problems since upgrading to 11.04 Natty Narwhal, so let's deal with these 1 at a time.

I've got a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion G60 laptop. Next to the power button is a handy wireless on/off button. This has always worked well with previous editions (9.04,through 10.10). first press toggles the wireless off, second press toggles it on.

Not so in 11.04. The toggle off works great, first time. But, it will not toggle back on. Not after any number of tries, not after restarting, not after booting into other OS's (9.10 and Vista) re-enabling it there and then booting back into Narwhal. to further complicate the issue, this feature bypass the network manager, so toggling the wireless off by the switch leaves me showing no wireless adapter in the network manager. I also restarted, switched from Unity to a Gnome session, but the issue still persists.

As my only network options are wireless, this has become a substantial inconvenience.
----
EDIT: so the network util is actually saying "wireless disabled by hardware switch". Also noticed it I enable it in 9.10, reboot to 11.04 (where I inevitably fail to re-enable it), then reboot into 9.10, it will initially be disabled. The key difference is in 9.10 I have the ability to enable wifi using the hardware button. It seems that 11.04 is remembering that wireless is disabled between boots. Is there a place it might be storing this value? If so, I may be able simply to set the value as enabled, since toggling that silly button isn't working.
-----
EDIT 2:
found this thread:"Wireless disabled by hardware switch" bug? - Natty
seems to be a similar issue. I'll be following how that one develops, too.

Ubuntu Networking :: Lucid - Wireless Button Controls Bluetooth / Shows "wireless Is Disabled"?

Jun 22, 2010

So, after installing Lucid wireless doesn't work for me. When I click on the network icon on the status bar, it shows "wireless is disabled".

With that message, I press the wifi button on my HP laptop and it turns off my blue-tooth, without changing the status of my wifi.

I found this rfkill command in another thread:

Before doing anything, after bootup:

Code:
$ rfkill list

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Responding After 2sec Of Pressing A Button?

Jan 17, 2010

Yesterday night everything was normal until I rebooted to Fedora. This morning I switched back to Kubuntu 9.04 and the keyboard had a strange behaviour. Every button needs to be pressed ~2 sec. in order the letter to show up. And that happens in every application (shell, firefox, etc). I tried to upgrade to 9.10 hoping that it will return to defaults but the problem persist. Please help solve this issue, my work is hanging and all the programs I'm using at the moment are installed on my Ubuntu partition.

I do not have any wireless or wired connection on this mini.I have looked at dozens of posts and different forums, sites, ect and most methods are the same and have not worked for me.The mini comes with a wireless switch to turn on the wireless on the front, I have tried to turn it on at almost every point in my troubleshooting with no change.I have copied and installed the following software pacs via a removable usb hd to my home file in a folder named linux and these are the results I have gotten. I have worked on this for about 10hrs today and several more hours across the week, if anyone can help me I would appreciate a line by line step by step instruction to get through this because it seems I am making an error in the steps in the forum for installing without internet connection.

Ubuntu :: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard Stops Responding?

Dec 2, 2010

I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2 and Microsoft Explorer Mouse Model 1362. The biggest issue I have right now is with the keyboard. The keyboard will start cutting out and not responding to keys. As soon as the cpu load drops then all is well. I have a PS2 keyboard that I keep plugged in just in case the load stays high and I need to type something. The mouse and the keyboard have seperate usb dongles, and when the keyboard is having issues the mouse is still working great. This tells me that either the USB radio for the keyboard gets turned off, or that something on my machine is weird. I have seen the EXACT same behaviour on 32bit and 64bit linux distros.

CPU: AMD X3 720 oc'ed to 3.22GHZ
MOBO: Biostar
RAM: 8GB
Video: HIS ATI 4890 (using FGLRX)
HD: Samsung 1TB 7200RPM drive
OS: Ubuntu 10.10 (tested also with Fedora 14, OpenSUSE 11.3)

Note: it happens with very little load and high load. Of course high load it happens all the time.

OpenSUSE Network :: Wireless Disabled After Update?

Even compiled kernel 2.6.37-rc6, but didnt go.Then I took drivers and firmware from git repositories, compiled, did what it was necessary and I made it work. This morning, (since system was new), I just did zypper upgrade (nothing new installed from default installation, I just added packman to repos). And, now wireless is not working. In network manager, option "enable wireless" is disabled.I went to YaST, put network on ifup, it did scan networks, but cant make it work either. Turned it back to network manager, but same thing.Module brcm80211 is loaded, but I cannot make wireless work.

Now the system boots only in Safe Mode with enabled WLAN card (when the WLAN card is disabled it also boots in normal mode though). But even if I try to configure the WLAN card in Safe Mode, the system doesn't boot next time (in Safe Mode) until I add "brokenmodules=ssb" parameter. As I understand after reading this forum I should install a firmware/driver, but there is no install_bcm43xx_firmware script in /usr/sbin directory.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Disabled On Boot - Cannot Re-enable

May 21, 2010

I have recently installed 10.4 (wubi installation), and am having strange problems with my networking.

It was working fine, wireless enabled, connecting to my network fine. Then for what seems like no reason, it decided to disable the wirless on boot, and I cannot re-enable it, the option to enable it (by right clicking the nm applet) is greyed out.

I have had this problem twice now, the first time it happened, my ubuntu installation was really new, so I just reinstalled, no harm done. The second time I did something that seemed to fix it (for a while at least), but now that is not working.
