Ubuntu :: Installing 10.4 On Pc (input Not Supported)
Aug 17, 2010
I built a new pc with an intel atom processor and 1Gb Ddr2 ram with on board sound and graphics. When i try to intal or boot live (from flash drive) The screen pops up asking boot or instal. Whether i choose either/or i recieve an error on my monitor saying input not supported. I got a similar error when i tried an older monitor. My current monitor is an aoc lcd screen (not sure of model no.)
I recently tried to upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04. At first, the installation seemed to go smoothly, but when I tried to boot up, my screen displayed the following error message:
Input Not Supported
I am unsure how this is happening, since I was able to install 10.10 successfully. To better assist, I am attaching detailed information about my computer system.
Brand new to Linux. Just installed Debian 5.0.6 (64-bit). Upon booting up, the screen is all black with a gray floating screen that says "Input Not Supported". My guess is that the video card is not supported by Debian, but maybe somebody knows a way around this problem... (I know for a fact that both video card and LCD work fine in Windows XP.)
My hardware: * Video card: ATI Radeo HD 4850 * LCD: Acer V193W
I've been getting a message on my monitor where "Input not supported" is floating around. This only happens when I manually turn the monitor off and then later turn it back on. Leaving the monitor on and allowing it to go to the screen saver doesn't seem to cause the issue (but I prefer to turn the monitor off if I'm going to be away from the computer for any length of time).
Specs: Acer X203w monitor Radeon 9600 Pro Video card Linux Mint 8 (Helena) Resolution 1680 x 1050 (16:10 - Preferred native resolution for the monitor) Refresh Rate 60hz

I just had it happen again. I tried unplugging the DVI cable from the back of the computer and then plugging it back in. The monitor then displayed the desktop properly. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not in what I may need to change settings-wise.
I downloaded and installed "Startup manager" from the symantic package manager, allowing me to change my boot order in a dual setup. Works great, but I HAD to mess with it, and I changed some settings in the program. Now When I boot, I can't see grub! its says "input not supported!" The settings I changed were, Quote:1) Changed the startup managers rez to 1600x9002) Changed the theme of the startup managerNow I can't get to my Ubuntu desktop. What do I do ?
I downloaded the binaries, and changed file permission to execute. When I double click on it, it asks me if I want to run it in a terminal, it starts out by giving me a message about looking for a component, and then the terminal closes, and nothing else happens. Is Netbeans not supported under CentOS 5.3?
I'm using Debian 503 Lenny, Gnome. My machine, She-Beast, is a 2001 Compaq Presorry-o, 1100GHz Celery. With every, that is, E V E R Y, attempt to install any .deb, it fails. When I 2x click on the .deb icon, or when I r-click -->Open with archive manager, I get a dialog window: "Could not open "(filename).deb". Archive type not supported." If I use root terminal, dpkg -i, similar responses come up.
Laptop: Compact Presario C706NR Notebook Pc. Ive just tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 and unluckily failed... Ive checked the hard disk and it has responded error: 1files. [Errno 5] Input/output error
I'm running it on a USB. at the moment im using it as my comp. my windows vista is gone. Id like to fully install any recommendations?
I'm trying to install Wine on Fedora 13, I tried installing it from the "Add/Remove Software Repository" but the installation fails, I tried installing it from the Terminal using the following command as root: "yum install wine"
I recently got a real fancy unidirectional microphone, but when I go and use it, something strange happens. The mic is a mono mic, but when I record something, it appears to think it's stereo. Instead of having the same thing on both channels, it puts it all in the left channel, and silence on the right channel.
I tried fiddling with alsamixer. In capture (F4), adjusting the "Capture" device has an effect. However, it doesn't do anything useful. Lowering the right channel to zero does nothing, lowering the left channel to zero creates silence, and disabling the right channel creates silence.
In my System>Preferences>Sound (or pavucontrol, or what-have-you), there are "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Duplex" options there, but no "Analog Mono Input" or "Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" options (the latter being ideal).
Something interesting, though, if I do this: Code: arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 1 -vv -V mono /dev/null it works correctly and outputs on both channels. But if I do Code: arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 2 -vv -V stereo /dev/null then it's back to the same behavior. The VU meter on the second command shows the left channel going up and down as I make noise, but the right one always at zero.
The machine does have a crap internal mic built in to the screen bezel. If I do either of the above commands, they both work correctly. The stereo VU shows the same activity for both channels.
The machine is a Eee 1015PED, which has Intel integrated sound. Something probably insignificant is that the mic has a 1/4 inch mono plug, and to get it to plug into the Eee, I needed to get a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adapter. The mic's 1/4 plug is mono (duh) and therefore two-conductor, but the adapter I got is stereo, or three conductor (L, R, GND). I don't know if this is tripping something in hardware to tell it it's stereo or something.
I tried the mic on my desktop, which has a SB Audigy 4 (the non-pro flavor) and that has the "Analog Mono Input" function, so that works fine. Is there some way to turn this stereo input into mono input?
I installed Lucid. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 and to connect my iPod to my laptop's speakers. There was an option in 9.10 in the Sound Options to change the Mic Input into a Line Input. But now unfortunately I can't find it in Lucid have only 2 audio ports in the laptop: Headphone port, Mic port.
I would like to use Japanese kana (hiragana, katakana, kanji) on Ubuntu but everything that I've tried to get it set up and running isn't working. The Spanish that I have set up is working perfectly so far.
I've read, the SCIM input program should start up automatically when loading a program, it doesn't. When I have it loaded I cannot seem to get the input working.
I've played with a couple of different versions on both Intel & AMD processors in the past (never totally successful) & all the versions I've played with in the past had separate downloads for i386 & AMD. I thought I'd try again with 9.10. When I started to download this morning, I only saw a version for x86 32bit & 64bit. What should I use for an AMD Athlon x2? Have Intel & AMD been rolled into x86?
I have been working on this copiz fusion thing and I was following the deal at medibuntu and got to where you run "compiz --replace" and I get this warning...
WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXCreatePixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not supported! This is an application bug! WARNING: Application calling GLX 1.3 function "glXDestroyPixmap" when GLX 1.3 is not
Is it possible to boot from my external hard drive when not supported? I have no room on my internal hard drive and I would like to install ubuntu on a section of my external hard drive. I have an old Dell Dimension 2350 and the BIOS does not support usb booting.
I have windows 7 64 bits and i'm trying to install ubuntu 10.04 amd64. The installation was good but when i'm trying to boot on ubuntu i have a black screen with a message "mode not supported".
I've looked for the problem on google. The solution is to change the frequency of the monitor. Mine supports only 75htz max and on the error message I have 77htz, what's why it's not supported.
The problem that to change the frequency for lunux i have to be logged in linux in order to type commands in the terminal.
But I can't see a thing, only the message about the mode not supported, so I can't type anything.
I found some solutions here but i can't do what they ask, because I can't boot and the message doesn't disappear. [url]
I remember a few months ago I attempted to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell laptop however the Dell 1397 internal card wasn't recognized which was a huge problem. I posted here & nobody responded. Now before I try and install 10.10 on my laptop, is there a way I can verify that my WLAN card will be recognized by the kernel or is it the same thing as 10.04?
i have tried to install via usb ubuntu 10 - but after the boot menu my pc monitor says vga not support - i know some ati 2100 cards have a problem with ubuntu (onboard), is there anything i can do?

So hibernate used to work fine on my computer, but then after some updates one day - the option just disappeared from all log-out consoles from all desktop managers (xfce4, gnome .etc).xfce4-power-manager now says "Hibernate operation not supported" when I attempt to select it.
Is there a list of supported hardware anywhere?Ubuntu directed me to Gentoo-Wiki, but there was no page with the name...Anyway, I have Intel extreme graphics, whih I know isn't the best, based on the new ones out there,Does anyone know if it's supported for desktop effects?Or will I Have to buy a new one..I'm Okay if it's a bit slow, but I just want to know if it will run..
I'm dualbooting XP and Kubuntu on my laptop, and want to move some files from my ext3 part to the NTFS part. Mounting it goes fine, but can't write, create folders, etc. to the NTFS part. Started looking for people with similar problems online and found the guide on this site, so I installed ntfs-config and went through the steps, checking "Enable write to internal device", etc. Still no good. I tried manually putting in the write option on the mount command, no flags comes up but konsole still says "Operation not supported." Dual-booting Vista and Kubuntu Jaunty
I have tried some older Terratec dual tuner receiver which worked well in ubuntu. It would be nice to know,if this current model works in ubuntu, if you consider buying..
