I am in the process of installing BT4. At the partitioning stage of the install, I noticed that it could not detect my windows 7 like in the example screenshot they provided with the guide: click here: However, This is how the partition stage looks like on my system:
Why can't I see Windows here? I remember from the partition editor in windows, that my primary C: disk had 3 partitions. A system reserve, some small unallocated space and 157 gb which belongs to windows. My question is, why does it fail to detect the windows. I'm guessing the ubuntu installer only sees the 6gb of unallocated space as the only possible option to install on. So Ubuntu can only be installed on unallocated space ? I'll have to narrow down the partition that C: is on, make the unallocated partition bigger and put Ubuntu on it.
Did I answer my question there? I am being paranoid because in no case can I loose files. Here's a screenshot of my gParted

When I was trying to install debian stable in my laptop the process was freeze, I would like to know what was the problem, this is very important for me because the failed would be in a working server or on a project, so my questions are:
1. What are the places/files to look for errors? log files? dmesg? something else?
2. Are there some special commands or routines that can help in the analysis?

I am trying to install Fedora 11 from a DVD. Not the live DVD, the full DVD and it hangs constantly. I had to wait 10 minutes for it to Find Storage Devices, 10 minutes to input a root password and now I am waiting for the drive shares to be setup. It's already been 10 minutes. I verified the disk and everything was fine. Why is this taking so long?

I'll have a Sony VAIO AR290 with 2 HDD, earlier I'll have a Windows XP and SUSE and RAID was turned off. Now I turn on RAID in STRIPE mode for better productivity, Windows 7 installation was successful, It creates MBR partition (100 M and C: HDD. During SUSE installation(I've chose all parameters- swap and partition) installation process stop at 1% on "operating with HDD" and my VAIO dont answer on any key pressed (alt ctr del, ctr c, esc) and I'll should to turn it power off. During surfing web, I'll find some solutions to solve it by creating root partition but It hasn't any results.

Installing new Intel server S5000VSA (Sapello) motherboard with RAID 1. Downloaded F10 32 bit DVD and run install. Everything works fine and select Samba and all that. Install completes but on reboot get a blank screen.
I know with Windows one has to load the RAID driver off the Intel driver CD, so guess that is the problem. But how do I do this in Fedora? Question: How do I get to select the Intel RAID driver in the install process? There does not seem to be any place to stop and make this selection. I tried selecting the Red Hat and Suze installs on the Intel configuration assistant but it then reboots and that is it. In Windows it would ask to insert the Intel driver CD but that does not happen. So I am stuck. I loaded Fedora some 3 year ago and like it but then it was not on a RAID setup. I created a VMWare install on my desktop and did the same install options and it works. So the DVD seems fine.

The graphical install goes fine all the way up until it finishes the "Performing Installation" process. Then the screen goes blank. Tried each display option for the install, and finally the text option got me through to completion.So now I've gotten to the command line, and when i try to startkde, i get the message "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server."I'm not well versed in linux yet, so a lot of these messages don't yet mean much to me. In the course of messing around with this I'm getting the feeling that it's Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 that's causing the problem here.

I'm trying to install Fedora 11 (64-bit) but after a small message about ISOLINUX the monitor refreshes and displays the following message: "Press the <Enter> key to begin the installation process." At that point the keyboard dies and I can't go any further. I tried 4 different FC11 dvds, also tried different PS2 and USB keyboards but the problem persists.
How to install FC 10 first and then upgrade to FC11. I tried that as well with no luck. I can install FC10 with no problems but why not FC11?

I'd just like to express my disappointment in the new installation manager you have, it is a massive downgrade from the previous ones. When I tried installing via your new manager it presented me with a few problems, first of all it would not correctly detect my partitions, I have 2 separate partitions, my windows and what acts as my play around, I install Linux distros, play around and install another when I get bored or run into bugs, so this is not my first time installing anything. When I tried installing I assumed the option to "Install alongside other OS'" would work perfectly, but instead of asking to remove what was openSUSE (which is what it would do in previous versions and other installation managers)and just install Ubuntu on top, instead it wanted to resize my windows partition and install next to that, this is obviously not a good idea because it would cause a lot of problems for windows, and windows wouldn't boot without me running a repair. So I tried using GParted to delete my openSUSE installation. I then tried to install the same way, but with no luck, it; didn't see the free space. So I manually set a swap of 2GB and the rest of the partition as ext4 starting in "/" (This is the only way it would work and have no idea what it means). Ubuntu installed and works... however.
I am also disappointed in the lack of control over the installation when it finally happens. First off, it starts to install even before you have selected where you are, with no option to stop, or pause. Second, it does not ask whether you actually want GRUB, which OS is going to be booted by default and how long it should display options before booting. Third, it assumes you want the root password to be the same as the user password and has no option to add more than one user or set a separate root password.
This installer is an insult of peoples intelligence. I'm a windows guy, but not that stupid. There is making it easy, and making it so damn easy no one ever learns anything, because it's all point-and-click.

I have googled this and I refuse to believe the answer is "older video card" or "ubuntu". Does anyone know what boot parameters to use or how to get Fedora to start the install process in a resolution other than the "Optimum resolution"? resolution=640x40 vga=ask. These do not work. They set the debug display but when the graphical portion starts it defaults to the "optimum resolution" and the message displays "Cannot Display This Video Mode". As you consider the answer, think this is a new computer, blank hard disk, etc. I am installing Fedora 10. Tried 11 and Vista seems less buggy, prefer 10 or 9.

I have OpenSuse 11.3 KDE installed in dual boot with Win 7. Have used Ubuntu in the past and remember that whenever I started my computer with Ubuntu, i had a black colored screen which showed various kernel options. So in short I was sure that the Ubuntu installation had updated itself. On the contrary, whenever I start Suse 11.3 KDE, it shows me just one option of Suse 2.6.34.7-0.7
I have doubts, is Suse up-to-date, and also there is mention of KDE 4.6 on kde.org website.
But my operating system information is as follows:
KDE: 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 3"
OS: Linux 2.6.34.7 -0.7 -default i686
System: openSUSE 11.3 (i586)
I have also seen that on 10th Mar 2011, Suse 11.4 will be realeased. Will update/ upgrade of this installation work in this direction?

Earlier today, I tried to install FreeBSD. If anyone here has done this, I think I went wrong at the part where it asked if I wanted to edit the Master Boot Record. In any case, now when I turn the computer on, it boots into FreeBSD instead of into GRUB. Now I have no access to Ubuntu or Windows, and I have no internet on FreeBSD. How can I fix the MBR so that it boots into GRUB instead of FreeBSD? I want my Ubuntu back...

I'm looking all over for the commands but I can't find them. If i just type "sudo apt-get install build-essential ubuntu-restricted-extras" it returns the message that they are both up to date. I know one of them was interrupted and needs to be finished.

Code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <signal.h>
[code]....
Description of what the code does or what i intended to do:
1. Created a child process from parent process using 'fork()'
2. Sent a signal 'SIGALRM' from child process to parent process using 'sigqueue' function.
(The Third parameter of 'siqueue' function contains the message (message msg) which the child process wants to send to the parent process.'msg' is a stucture instance containing a) pid of child and b) string) 5. Print the 'msg' sent by child process inside the signal handler function 'sig_action_function' of the parent process I am getting some junk value when this line is executed
Code:
printf("%d
",msg->cpid);
I expected to get the pid of child process, which the child process sent to parent process through the signal.

as we all know Process Scheduler does Process scheduling and its a process as well. I was just wondering that if this happens then the Process "Process Scheduler" should be a part of Process queue as well.
So if there are 5 process are there in Process queue & process scheduler is administrating them then since its also a process, once it puts a process under RUN state it should itself go inside queue because at one instant only one process can get executed on a processor. This is quite confusing for me. Please help me out. I tried to search on this but could not find any relevant topics.
