Aug 21, 2010I want to set a up a network of inter connected pcs, for example on pc A linux is installed.now pcs B, C , D, etc should connect to A and do there work, for example A want to do C/C++, development, whereas B wants to do some PERL development or whatever, this is just an example, 2 different pc users might do same work also, and the connecting pcs may have Windows or linux or bsd.OSes now what h/w or s/w is required and what steps are required to set up this network, main pc would be connected to internet and also connected pcs might want to use internet also..have installed opensuse edulife , and use this as PC A for testing.. and I use bridged dsl Broadband connection to connect to internet , by the username and password provided by the ISP, in windows its easy to setup this connection, however not able to do on linux,

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Is Not Connected?
Mar 23, 2010WiFi on this laptop worked fine for a few months then went out; after a reinstall of ubuntu (since 9.xx had come out since then anyway) the wireless still refused to even see networks, let alone connect to them; under Wireless Networks in the NM, I just see a greyed out 'disconnected'. This got me to thinking that it may have just been a hardware issue, but I find that hard to believe. Anyway, here's the pertinent information:
Started off with an lshw command just to see if a network adapter is even listed as being connected: `lshw`

As an addendum : I found this driver project but they claim to require a 2.6.8+ kernel; a quick `uname -r` shows that mine is 2.6.31, and an `apt-cache search linux-image` reveals that to be the highest available from repos; do Debian/Ubuntu distros not use more recent kernels or is this an Ubuntu-specific kernel naming scheme? If so, to what would it be comparable? I'm hesitant to try to install this and change my firmware if it's likely I'll be borking something.

May 31, 2010I seem to be having on going issues with my printer. I was able to print a garbled test page but I get a result from terminal of printer HP-Deskjet-f2400 now printing HP-Deskjet-f2400-0. enabled since Mon May 31 15:45:04 2010 Connecting to printer... and it just sits there. Nothing is in error with the printer itself though.

And everything seemed alright, but when I actually try accessing something that I need VPN for, it doesn't work (it's the same as if I wasn't in VPN). I also tried using GOpenVPN but the results are exactly the same. I know the confs are ok as I use the exact same files on Windows 7 and everything's fine. I even disabled ufw, restated machine etc, just to be sure.

So I bought a entire new laptop for the task and it landed on a Acer eMachine 350.
Trouble here trouble there I finally came down to a ubuntu netbook edition, the latest one for the moment.
I had to use jockey-gtk to install drivers to my broadcom network card which took a while, but it now says I have a driver!

Feb 8, 2011I'm new to linux. I bought a VPS of 123systems.net. I installed linux Ubuntun 10.10 on it. I followed this guide and installed Gnome and TighttVnc Server on it. The problem is when I connect to my VPS using VNC, the keyboard gets all messy. when I type minecraft it gets like %6gj&9[! , I cant use backspace, I use 5 instead. I tried to reinstall it 4 times. And rebooted my computer twice and tried to connect trough Real Vnc to it, but without any luck! Staff tried to connect to it trough VNC and had the same problem.

Mar 24, 2011I am running a dual-boot with Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 and I can't stay connected to the internet with Ubuntu, but Windows does. My router is a D-Link GamerLounge DGL-4500. I have wireless internet access for about 10 seconds but then it drops. Access to the router doesn't go away though. Other computers can connect to it just fine, and my computer (Toshiba Satellite A505) has connected to every other one I've tried on. I can still log in to it and change settings and all that, but I can't access the internet through it. I also can't ping the router.

1) What types of packages does Kubuntu use for installing programs and what's the package manager's name? (I don't remember from when I played with it last)

Not in the terminal apparently, cos that just says that the directory or file was not found. I understand that there are autogen.sh files for many programs, so how do I run the one that I need? I am not completely inept, but when it comes to compiling, programming etc. I really have no idea. I checked the compiling software from ubuntu community and installed the automake and checkinstall programms/files or whatever they are. But what now?

Feb 13, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 in a dual boot Vista system (DELL INSPIRON 530). Everything was ok except the wireless network configuration. Afrer checking on the Internet I realized There was an issue with my network card (Broadcom BCM431. I first tried to install the drivers using Ndiswrapper with not succes. Finally, I was able to use the b43 driver by installing b43-fwcutter. Now the driver is shown and active in the Hardware Drivers Utilily. I am even connected to my Wireless Network. However, I cant load any website. I have checked the parameters in the network set up. I have even tried different options, like static or dinamic IP. But I cant load any website.
