I'm looking for detailed "newbie" instructions on how to install "radio station fetcher" for Banshee.The latest install of Ubuntu 10.04 has no radio station list in Banshee.
View 5 RepliesI just noticed Banshee is the new default player in Natty so I decided to move over my music and radio stations.The media import worked for my few mp3s (only have a couple on here) I have but my radio stations did not import. Since I mostly listen to the radio while on the computer (ipod when I am not), I bit the bullet and recreated all my radio stations by hand.
Most worked but a few of my favorites do not.BBC World Service did not work so I launched Rhythmbox since it is still installed and BBC and the other stations played fine.Searching around the net it looks like Banshee had problems with BBC before since it is an .asx type link but that was supposed to be fixed in one of the 1.x releases.I found Vermont Public Radio hosts BBC World in a different format but my other stations are out of luck unless I stick with RB for now.

I want to stream a radio station that uses .cfm . I've tried a lot of options but without success. Anyone have experience with cfm?
I can stream other stations using vlc media player and even Adobe flash player. But no success with this cfm stream.
I'm having an issue with rhythmbox in Lucid. I can add and play new radio stations fine. However, upon closing rhythmbox and reopening the radio station disappears from the list. Is there a way to get the stations I add to stay?

I'm having trouble getting audio from this particular radio station and have tried the gstreamer plugins, totem, VLC, win32codecs amongst others.Using Ubuntu 11.04 and Firefox 5.0

In order to connect to the internet when i am at work i have to use a proxy server; the problem is that this proxy also blocks port xxxxx which is used by a internet radio station. Is there any way to be able to listen to that radio station?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to add a radio station in Music Player only to get a message from the site (Classic FM - UK) that "You appear to be using Linux, please get MPlayer1.0rc3)." So I went and downloaded the install zip file and extracted it to the desktop. Now, in Windows it's easy - there is always a file called setup.exe/other standard name and suffix. But no matter how long I look into this folder from MPlayer I just simply don't know where the exec file is and neither do I ever seem to find installing ANY third party linux stuff on Ubuntu straightforward.
if one of you could take a look at this zip from here: [URL] This is now the sixth or seventh occasion on which I've found users of Linux assuming that everyone under the sun understands what their instructions mean for noobs. I do like Ubuntu but there is a certain attitude among long-term users which is not particularly helpful and which I am certain prevents new people from taking it up; namely that the prime misconception remains that it's assumed "open a terminal and sudo to nautilus" etc is going to make any sense to someone who has just stopped using Windows after 20 years.
So far, I love the start up speed, the manoeuvrability, the customisation of Linux. But I don't like the chore involved in simple functions like the above. Hell, I don't even know if MPlayer1.0rc3 is the same as Music Player! Why? Because, as you'll see from the above link, the makers can't be bothered to tell you anything other than to speak in Linux-Speak. I'm having the exact same issues with getting a Wacom tablet to work - ten million pages of Linux-speak and not a single straight-forward instruction. It's all devrules and sudos and hidden files.... It is sorely tempting to just give up and go back to the evil monster that is Microsoft.
I just for the first time tried to play audio files on a CentOS 5.3 machine, but I noticed there is no xmms installed, and xmms doesn't seem to be available via yum either.
So, what is the easiest way of listening to mp3 files in CentOS 5.3 these days? Actually, I just want to be able to play music streams from an internet radio station.
I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 KDE on my Macbook and try as I might, I cannot get used to Amarok. I like Banshee and it's simple interface, plus the way it handles radio stations and the like.
I did install it using YaST and I am able to run it, but I am unable to add internet radio stations and also I am unable to play them (and other MP3 files) if I manually connect to the stream. As far as adding radio stations, I am unable to because the Genre box stays grayed out and the Save button stays grayed out because the Genre box has not been filled in (but I can't because it's grayed out). As far as playing MP3s, Banshee says I need a codec and when i click 'Search' for a suitable codec, it takes me to an OpenSuse download page with the decoder there but it's for OpenSuse 10.3, not 11.2.
These are probably simple problems with simple solutions but I can't seem to figure them out. Also, K3B says the MP3 Decoder is missing as well. I'm sure it is related to the Banshee problem too.
From banshee if I try to play the radio station [URL] it fails. However if I run gnome-mplayer [URL]. It works fine. Close mplayer, and then try banshee again to the same url and it now works?

Then when a certain device is plugged in USB, the program will automatically copy all the new files to a specific directory on that device.What I really don't want is to eithera) have to screw with this once setup the first timeb) mess with anything like a media player program: I want something lightweight and out of sight.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if any in the Ubuntu community owns a Carmen Car Radio player by Livio Radio. The program to save internet radio to the device is written in Java, however I am not able to run it either using WINE or using Open JDK.
The Carmen Player does work well with Banshee, it is the internet radio that is not working.
I have a new install of Karmic on my system with a flyvideo 3000 tv card installed. My problem is that it doesn't find any radio channels and the input channel is completely wrong. I don't have any sound on gnomeradio and can't find the config files to change the input channel. The only input option available to me is dig1 - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have already read the Howto for this tv card and changed the device to radio0 in the setup. I have setup tvtime perfectly with sound channel as well as with a 5.1 surround configuration. I am missing my favourite radio channel. and I want to get rid of my windows installations once and for all! Update: I did a system update and some things have changed: the radio tower graphic on gnomeradio is now green (I assume it is getting a signal) but no sound yet.

record my radio show from a radio I have plugged into my iMac. That's right. For now, I am dual booting on my iMac until I can afford to buy a dedicated PC desktop just for Ubuntu.
I can't believe that there seems to be no way for me to record my shows from my radio. Works fine when I boot into the Mac side and even when I use Ubuntu using VMware Fusion. When I boot into Ubuntu directly, Audio In in the Sound preferences doesn't seem to work. No audio coming through when I try to record from the radio.
I have an old, 8 gig hard drive that still works. I think it has a distro of some linux on it. The only working computer I have is my old 1.2 gig(IWILL) with one GIG of P-133 ram. I have WIN 2k Pro installed on the 37 gig hard drive. When I hook the 8 gig up as a "slave", input the data into the BIOS, the computer doesn't recognize the "D" (8 gig) drive.Now, I'd like to get the computer to "see" the "D" drive and to figure out a way to download the latest Ubuntu version on to the drive. It's not necessary to dual-boot the drive, as I would only hook up the WIN drive and take the Linux drive out.
Now, I'm not the brightest crayola in the box. I'd like to be able to figure out a way to access my M$ Excel spreadsheets, I use for frequency databases (for Part 90 frequencies) during severe weather outbreaks. Can some, kind, understanding person help me with this? It seems with the mental gaps, my understander (comprehension) is not working.I can read something and not understand what is written. I'm not asking for pity, just understanding in my challenge.
Banshee 1.7.5 supports the ipod touch and iphone but i can not figure out how to get it on Ubuntu. Its not in synaptic yet and i can not compile from source because it always says

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GST_CFLAGSand GST_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
I placed the file found here: [URL].. and put it in ~/.gnome2/banshee/plugins and it dint work. The directories banshee/plugins did not exist adn I had to create them

But I wanted the newest version (1.8.0) for its new features and so I've tried both adding their (openSUSE 11.3) repository and doing it through yast and also installing it (for openSUSE 11.3) straight from their website with the "1-click install". Both of these methods did the exact same thing, just the latter added the repository for me (much simpler/lazier). Now, after installing banshee 1.8.0, it does not show up in the application launcher menu. So, I'm not sure how to open it and/or add it to the kickoff menu.

That brings up the Yast2 installer, which tries to do the install, but barfs with message something like "banshee-1-backend-engine-gtkstreamer-1-1.5.1-1.1.i586 required, uninstallable providers bansheexxxx [OpenSUSE_11.0],Conflict resolution: following actions will be done" with a long list of actions.So I click on "OK-Try Again", but it doesn't DO anything, just endlessly repeats the same message.Is there some way to bypass this, and get it to actually install?

I have added dependency after dependency... and now I am finally stuck. I have searched the web for gconf-sharp-2.0. i might be blind, but i have not found anywhere that i can download it from and install.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been using linux for several years now, and given that I get banshee running I can completely do away with Micro$ux . But here is where I've run into a bit of a problem. Obviously since I'm running slackware I know that the package manager will not have every program I want. I also know that when I build a package from source there will be some dependencies I do not have, and I need to adapt and overcome. I've been working away at the dependencies for a couple hours, and one is killing me "taglib-sharp 2.0.3.7".
I downloaded that exact package (as it is the newest version) and installed from source (simple "./configure && make && make install"). Worked just fine, seemed to have installed with no errors during make and no missing dependencies during config. That would lead me to believe it installed, however the configure script for banshee is still complaining that it can't find any taglib-sharp at all. So I redownloaded the source and tried again to no avail. Below is the exact output of the banshee config (though it's just as you'd expect).

I have been using Linux and Ubuntu only since the last two months on my (2006) Sony Vaio VGN A617S laptop which is going pretty well on Ubuntu 10.10. When installing Ubuntu audio did get installed alright, and the speakers on the laptop itself are working well even now with the right drivers (snd-hda-intel) for the Realtek ALC260 soundcard.
My problem is when laptop is docked to the A/V docking station (I have seen it referred as a port replicator as well - the model number is VGP-PRAV2), with its two external speakers. And these were not on when Ubuntu was being installed. What is interesting is the headphones jack on the laptop does work when the docking station does not. I have been trying hard and have already tried quite a few things I saw to be related issues, like:
a) adjustments to some IEC958 in alsamixer
b) using a custom mod for the ALC260 card
I recently upgraded to Natty (11.04). Looks great but: I can't use it when my laptop (dell latitude E6410) is plugged in my dell docking station. It seems like the attached monitor (DVI) does not get signal input and hence turn to sleep mode.I can say that Ubuntu is still running fine when I unplug it from the docking station.I am using the NVidia driver 270.41.06 (installed as a third party driver by the install process).I can successfully connect and configure an external monitor thru the VGA port.
