I want to stream a radio station that uses .cfm . I've tried a lot of options but without success. Anyone have experience with cfm?
I can stream other stations using vlc media player and even Adobe flash player. But no success with this cfm stream.
Anyone know how I can play a .wax radio station on ubuntu. The link I have is:URL...I don't think this is possible based on some research but find it hard to believe and do not understand why.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just noticed Banshee is the new default player in Natty so I decided to move over my music and radio stations.The media import worked for my few mp3s (only have a couple on here) I have but my radio stations did not import. Since I mostly listen to the radio while on the computer (ipod when I am not), I bit the bullet and recreated all my radio stations by hand.
Most worked but a few of my favorites do not.BBC World Service did not work so I launched Rhythmbox since it is still installed and BBC and the other stations played fine.Searching around the net it looks like Banshee had problems with BBC before since it is an .asx type link but that was supposed to be fixed in one of the 1.x releases.I found Vermont Public Radio hosts BBC World in a different format but my other stations are out of luck unless I stick with RB for now.

Here's a plugin that lets VLC from wheezy-backports play h.265 content. I packaged it for the MEPIS 12 repo, but it should work on wheezy. [URL] ....
Or create your own packages against Debian's stock VLC 2.0.3, that might work.
You need to install the libde265 package first, then the plugin package.
You can use the static ffmpeg binaries from ffmpeg.org to encode to that h.265 (hevc) codec, but it will take quite a while.

The good news is that it will create video of the same quality that is half the size of a comparable h.264 file. This is handy for putting movies on space-limited storage, such as on a phone or tablet. I do know that MX Player on Android can play h.265 video.

I'm having an issue with rhythmbox in Lucid. I can add and play new radio stations fine. However, upon closing rhythmbox and reopening the radio station disappears from the list. Is there a way to get the stations I add to stay?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to add a radio station in Music Player only to get a message from the site (Classic FM - UK) that "You appear to be using Linux, please get MPlayer1.0rc3)." So I went and downloaded the install zip file and extracted it to the desktop. Now, in Windows it's easy - there is always a file called setup.exe/other standard name and suffix. But no matter how long I look into this folder from MPlayer I just simply don't know where the exec file is and neither do I ever seem to find installing ANY third party linux stuff on Ubuntu straightforward.

I do like Ubuntu but there is a certain attitude among long-term users which is not particularly helpful and which I am certain prevents new people from taking it up; namely that the prime misconception remains that it's assumed "open a terminal and sudo to nautilus" etc is going to make any sense to someone who has just stopped using Windows after 20 years.

Hell, I don't even know if MPlayer1.0rc3 is the same as Music Player! Why? I'm having the exact same issues with getting a Wacom tablet to work - ten million pages of Linux-speak and not a single straight-forward instruction. It's all devrules and sudos and hidden files.... It is sorely tempting to just give up and go back to the evil monster that is Microsoft.
I just for the first time tried to play audio files on a CentOS 5.3 machine, but I noticed there is no xmms installed, and xmms doesn't seem to be available via yum either.

The Carmen Player does work well with Banshee, it is the internet radio that is not working.
I have a new install of Karmic on my system with a flyvideo 3000 tv card installed. My problem is that it doesn't find any radio channels and the input channel is completely wrong. I don't have any sound on gnomeradio and can't find the config files to change the input channel. The only input option available to me is dig1 - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have already read the Howto for this tv card and changed the device to radio0 in the setup. I have setup tvtime perfectly with sound channel as well as with a 5.1 surround configuration. I am missing my favourite radio channel. and I want to get rid of my windows installations once and for all! Update: I did a system update and some things have changed: the radio tower graphic on gnomeradio is now green (I assume it is getting a signal) but no sound yet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been using Linux and Ubuntu only since the last two months on my (2006) Sony Vaio VGN A617S laptop which is going pretty well on Ubuntu 10.10. When installing Ubuntu audio did get installed alright, and the speakers on the laptop itself are working well even now with the right drivers (snd-hda-intel) for the Realtek ALC260 soundcard.
My problem is when laptop is docked to the A/V docking station (I have seen it referred as a port replicator as well - the model number is VGP-PRAV2), with its two external speakers. And these were not on when Ubuntu was being installed. What is interesting is the headphones jack on the laptop does work when the docking station does not. I have been trying hard and have already tried quite a few things I saw to be related issues, like:
a) adjustments to some IEC958 in alsamixer
b) using a custom mod for the ALC260 card
I just updated my distribution to 11.3 from 11.2. But now this problem occurs when I try to play an mp3. There was no problem before with 11.2.

I have an X-Station 25 synth, which has worked fine in the past on Ubuntu. Recently made a fresh install on Xubuntu, and for whatever reason, I'm getting no sound coming out when I just select USB audio.If I go into Sound Preferences, I can see the device. I can even select it for sound input. Hell, if I press some keys on the keyboard, I can see some of the squares on the input level go green.Evidently, there IS sound coming in via the USB connection, and Audacity is capable of recording it.
However, the only way of hearing it is by putting headphones directly into the unit and listening to the monitor output signal. The audio coming in, as detected, is not being played from my laptop speakers/headphones.Am I just missing something here, and that's MEANT to be the only way to hear the audio out?In alsamixer, there are no controls for the Xstation, and nothing seems to be muted. I've upgraded the firmware to the most recent version as well.
I have HP Compaq 6530b laptop running Debian Wheezy AMD64. I have a docking station with a monitor supporting 1680x1050 resolution and the laptop monitor with 1440x900. The video is integrated Intel mobile series 4.Both monitors are identified and working OK. When I use the laptop monitor standalone it runs at the native resolution. When connected to the docking station I can choose dual monitors with both using their native resolutions and the desktop spread on both of them (with the laptop monitor being primary and containing the taskbar and icons). If I choose to mirror the display it sets itself to a lower resolution of 1280x1024 that is supported by both monitors.
The problem is that I want to use one monitor at a time. If I close the lid of the laptop it turns off both monitors instead of using the docking station. When the lid is closed I want the bigger docking station monitor to be primary and working at native resolution and if I open the laptop or remove the laptop from the docking station to use the laptop monitor at it's native resolution.I had Debian Lenny I386 before and it was operating as expected but I made a clean install of Wheezy amd64 and I don't know how to configure it.I don't have xorg.conf file so I don't know where it takes the settings from.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying, reeeeally trying to use Ekiga. But the video quality is horrible. So I started messing with the settings, lo-and-behold I find info about h.264 and how fantastic it is. Well, I say to myself, let's try that on for size.
What? No h.264 option in Ekiga. That's weird, especially considering they have supported it since 3.0 and I'm using the version in the Karmic repos, 3.2.5. Not free, ok, I'll just install it then, right?
x264 package didn't do it. A little ffmpeg install as well. libavcodec52, which uninstalled a buttload of other stuff also. Even dl'd and installed libopal3.6.4-plugins-non-free. All to no option for the h.264 codec option in Ekiga.
Oddly enough, the libopal non free plugins DID add the iLBC audio codec into Ekiga as on option. Why not h.264? What am I missing? Also, why is this SO difficult? There is not any decent documentation that I can find out there that goes over this. Google has failed me.
All I have in the video codecs is theora and h261.
So I know that Mac OSX post-production and Linux post-production are very different things. I'm hoping to give editing on Linux with Cinelerra a try and I'm wondering, what in FFMpeg's array of codec and container support is widely understood to be the best combination for editing video. I'm looking for the most lossless option so H.264 won't do. Is there a good Apple Intermediate Codec or Apple Pro Res equivalent? Is AVCHD the answer?

Any commercial or freeware compressors that use it, or maybe even a standalone codec installer (like Radium for Windows, though IIRC that one's not exactly legal)?If not, is there perhaps a better codec for compressing MP3s? I've used Fraunhofer at 256Kbps CBR for years and never had a problem.

VLC has a command "Open Capture Device" that gives the user options for ripping (I think) the audio tracks. I made the relevant choices and got this message:

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis may be a minor irritation, but I'm puzzled by it nonetheless. I'm ripping my CDs to MP3 using Sound Juicer with the lamemp3enc plugin and following gstreamer pipeline.
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=0 ! xingmux ! id3v2mux
All was great a couple days ago, but suddenly the files' audio properties show 48 kbps bitrate when it should be well over 200. I even changed the pipeline to use "target=1 bitrate=256" with the same result. The files are being encoded as expected and that is reflected in the file size and the Statistics view in VLC.
I have two computers running Ubuntu 10.10. One has all the latest updates, but the other has not been updated in several days. This problem is happening on the former, but not the latter. gst-inspect lamemp3enc shows both computers have the same version of the encoder.
I thought I'd put it out to the forum here before submitting a bug in launchpad.
