Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee 2.0 Radio Station Did Not Import?

May 3, 2011

I just noticed Banshee is the new default player in Natty so I decided to move over my music and radio stations. The media import worked for my few mp3s (only have a couple on here) I have but my radio stations did not import. Since I mostly listen to the radio while on the computer (ipod when I am not), I bit the bullet and recreated all my radio stations by hand.

Most worked but a few of my favorites do not.BBC World Service did not work so I launched Rhythmbox since it is still installed and BBC and the other stations played fine.Searching around the net it looks like Banshee had problems with BBC before since it is an .asx type link but that was supposed to be fixed in one of the 1.x releases.I found Vermont Public Radio hosts BBC World in a different format but my other stations are out of luck unless I stick with RB for now.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Using Rhythmbox For Your Personal Internet Radio Station?

Jan 11, 2011

Using Rhythmbox to stream your music to multiple potential listeners over the Internet. But mostly, writing down how I did it so I don't have to re-do all the research the next time.StepsInstall icecast2: APT linkEdit /etc/icecast2/icecast.xml to configure your password at least. You need to add a user-specific password for the username that will be running Rhythmbox. For example, if your username is john you need to putQuote:<john-password>ChangeThisPassword</john-password>between the <authentication> </authentication> tags.I also suggest you set the port to 8000.Restart icecast2 using the following command:

Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/icecast2 restart

Ubuntu Installation :: Add A Radio Station In Music Player - Mplayer1.0rc3

Aug 24, 2010

I recently tried to add a radio station in Music Player only to get a message from the site (Classic FM - UK) that "You appear to be using Linux, please get MPlayer1.0rc3)." So I went and downloaded the install zip file and extracted it to the desktop. Now, in Windows it's easy - there is always a file called setup.exe/other standard name and suffix. But no matter how long I look into this folder from MPlayer I just simply don't know where the exec file is and neither do I ever seem to find installing ANY third party linux stuff on Ubuntu straightforward.

if one of you could take a look at this zip from here: [URL] This is now the sixth or seventh occasion on which I've found users of Linux assuming that everyone under the sun understands what their instructions mean for noobs. I do like Ubuntu but there is a certain attitude among long-term users which is not particularly helpful and which I am certain prevents new people from taking it up; namely that the prime misconception remains that it's assumed "open a terminal and sudo to nautilus" etc is going to make any sense to someone who has just stopped using Windows after 20 years.

So far, I love the start up speed, the manoeuvrability, the customisation of Linux. But I don't like the chore involved in simple functions like the above. Hell, I don't even know if MPlayer1.0rc3 is the same as Music Player! Why? Because, as you'll see from the above link, the makers can't be bothered to tell you anything other than to speak in Linux-Speak. I'm having the exact same issues with getting a Wacom tablet to work - ten million pages of Linux-speak and not a single straight-forward instruction. It's all devrules and sudos and hidden files.... It is sorely tempting to just give up and go back to the evil monster that is Microsoft.

Networking :: UFW Blocking Synergy - Port 24800 Fully Open?

Feb 22, 2011

I'm having an issue with ufw and Synergy. I'm trying to run my Xubuntu 10.10 desktop as a server, and my Xubuntu 10.10 laptop as a client. I can do this just fine as long as I either: Have ufw enabled on my client but disabled on my server Have ufw disabled on both my client and my server I have no custom rules added to iptables on my client. On my server, however, I have tried the following rules:

$ ufw allow from 192.168.0.0/24 to any port 24800 $ ufw allow from 192.168.0.0/24

Neither of these configurations works. ufw on my server seems to block my client's requests regardless of having port 24800 fully open from any local connection, or just flat-out fully allowing any incoming local connection. I'm not sure why ufw seems to be ignoring the rules I'm creating, but as it stands right now, the only way I can connect the two is if I have ufw on my server disabled. And I have tried to ping the two machines; each machine can ping the other, even if ufw is running on both.

And I can ping the router, as well, from both machines. Any ideas on where to go from here to troubleshoot? I should probably also add that I am using the same configuration file that I do on vanilla Ubuntu (with updated host names, of course), and I have no problems in Ubuntu. This seems to be specific to ufw and my Xubuntu desktop. I can paste the code for my server's configuration file, if desired.

Ubuntu Networking :: Change The Proxy Settings And Put In The IP Address And Enter The Port To 3000?

Nov 8, 2010

My college providers shifted to a different setting.. I'm not sure what needs to be done. On windows, under the connections tab you need to change the proxy settings and put in the IP address and enter the port to 3000. Questions:

1. where lies the linux (ubuntu 10.04) variant to execute the operation.

2. What can be the major obligations of such a change?

I am sure its siimple enough, but I can't get my net to work properly. The connection provided to the internet is through wireless routers.

Ubuntu Servers :: Cox Cable Blocking Port 80?

Jan 30, 2010

So first off, it probably seems this question has been asked thousands of times before. but I did do a search, mostly archived posts that ended up being something other than a true ip blocking of the port. [URL]..

So my port 80 is truly blocked. Ive tried setting up the port forwarding on my router, Ive tried manually allowing all traffic on port 80 through ip tables. Ive even dabbled with setting up something like openDNS to see So far nothing, Im only available on my local network.

There has to be some way to do a redirect though. even something as simple as an htaccess file redirecting [URL].. xxxx (the space is there to avoid my url being interrupted by a smiley

Hardware :: Opensuse 11 Machine Cloned With Dd, With Serial Port Blocking?

Feb 23, 2010

I have cloned an embedded system that runs Opensuse 11 x86 using dd. The embedded system uses a simple serial device, by writing to the relevant device file (/dev/ttyS2, usually). Curiously, when I write to the same serial device on the newly cloned system (which, incidentally, has almost identical hardware), thusly:

echo hello > /dev/ttyS2 the command blocks for up to a minute, before finally returning without making the hardware do anything. I can boot into Opensuse's rescue system on the clone and successfully do exactly the same thing, as I can when I boot the original's "identical" operating system. Why might this problem occur? What can I do about it?

i want to block ip range 123.123.123.* from connecting to my server on the ports 33000 - 43000. But, i want to allow them to connect on any other port range, and i want to be able to allow connections from my server to the blocked ip range on those same ports. so, blocking incoming only on the above port range.

using iptables.
