Ubuntu :: Podcast Fetcher/copy Script?

Mar 1, 2011

I know this is probably not the best place to ask, but I don't really know where else to go.I'm looking for a lightweight program that can run in the background all the time, and automatically download new podcasts from rss links I give it. Then when a certain device is plugged in USB, the program will automatically copy all the new files to a specific directory on that device. What I really don't want is to eithera) have to screw with this once setup the first timeb) mess with anything like a media player program: I want something lightweight and out of sight.

Ubuntu :: Script To Copy New Podcast To MP3 Player?

Nov 22, 2010

I would like to copy any new podcasts to my MP3 player from my Gpodder downloads. I would also like to delete any ones that are 3 days or older on both player and pc.

My player auto mounts as /media/COWON
and
the podcasts are in the directory AAPodcasts
so it is -
/media/COWON/AAPodcasts

On my pc they are in -
/home/lone/gpodder-downloads/LinuxOutlaws
/home/lone/gpodder-downloads/Twit
and so on and so on
Is there some script I could use?

Is there a Ubuntu program that can not only download podcasts but sync with an android phone? then arrange the playlist from ubunutu side.

Not looking forward to manually transferring them over and arranging them on the mounted drive the phone creates.

Also not an option to download podcasts straight to the phone what with the plan I'm on

Ubuntu Installation :: No Sound On Dloaded Podcast Or Stream

Apr 21, 2010

I grabbed Amarok off Synaptic since it's the only full featured media player I could find with OPML import, audio and video podcasting, etc. (Sorry, audio-only Rhythmbox - any other suggestions? I want to sync podcasts to my iPod classic as well, and cut the ties to Win 7)Anyways on Amarok I was able to successfully import my 20+ podcast feeds in a couple of clicks with the OPML import, and I then downloaded a test audio podcast.

On trying to play this podcast, however, the progress bar just shot across the screen, no audio was produced, and the podcast ended right away.I tried playing a radio stream as well from the Internet/Radio feature and no audio there either. It definitely was not muted.

Is this an Ubuntu problem? Something with this 'GStreamer' thingy? - I don't know what that is, but I need to pretend I know something about this here fancy Ubuntu jargon. Amarok played a test .ogg I recorded using Sound Recorder but that's all I've gotten to work so far.And if this is worth reporting as a bug, could someone please let me know what additional logs or info I should submit to launchpad. (Since there's no crash, there's no automatic submit popup.)

Software :: Podcast Grabber And Meta Tags ?

Mar 22, 2011

I have looked at several Podcast retrieving applications. However, none I have found so far do anything good with the Podcast information.

Almost every podcast contains tags that could be populated into metadata tags, it would seem, fairly easily. Having a podcast grabber that did so would certainly simplify using them on my iPod.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Set Genre Of A MP3 File To "Podcast"?

Jun 27, 2010

I've downloaded some podcast files and I wonder how to set the genre field of their ID3 to "Podcast"? so that my phone can detect them as podcasts and play them in its media player.
I used ID3v2, ID3, ID3tool and blah, blah, blah! but all of them have a big hug list of know genres except the Podcast genre. And you can not choose a genre which is not in their list.
All I want is an ID3 tool to set the genre field of a MP3 file to exact word I want.

General :: Copy A Read-Only File And Make The Copy Writable With A Single Cp Command?

Mar 1, 2011

How to copy a Read-Only file in Linux and make the copy writable with a single cp command in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)? The --no-preserve and --preserve seemed to be good candidates, except that they should "and" the mode flags, while what I am looking for is something that will "or" them (add +w mode).

More details: I have to import a repository from GIT to Perforce. I want that all Perforce depot files are Read-Only (that is how Perforce was designed), while all other files that were derived/copied from depot files are writable. Currently if a Makefile tries to copy a Read-Only file then the derived file will also be Read-only. This leads to build-errors when cp tries to overwrite Read-Only file second time. Of course the --force is a workaround here but then the derived file is also Read-Only. Also I do not want to mess with "chmod" after each "cp" command - I will do that only as the last resort.

Ubuntu :: Can't Copy DVD To ISO After Upgrade To 10.04

May 4, 2010

I've been backing up some of my older DVDs to my hard drive, as they were starting to get a bit scratched. Using 9.10, I had no problems. After updating to 10.04 yesterday, however, every method I try to use fails after copying about 80 to 120 MB.I'm running the amd64 version of 10.04, my optical drive is a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H, and I have installed libdvdcss2 from the Medibuntu repository. I can play the DVDs just fine, but I can't copy them.

Brasero craps out with "Error while burning. Data could not be written (Input/output error)", which based on some things I've read also pops up if data can't be read. I've tried the "Save Log" button, but the log is always empty. dd exits with "dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error".dd_rescue starts showing nothing but bad blocks roughly at the same point where dd throws the I/O error, and if I run it in reverse, it starts showing bad blocks immediately.k3b seems to work... but it took nearly half an hour (which is a bit longer than it should have taken), it threw a "Problem while reading. Retrying from sector n" error three times, and VLC won't play the resulting ISO, either directly or mounted.

I would say that it seems like a problem with copy protection, except that I have libdvdcss2 installed and I can play the DVDs just fine. I just can't copy them to an ISO. And it's not a matter of the discs being too scratched or a problem with the drive, since as I said I can play them just fine, and I can copy them in Windows using MagicISO.Some of the DVDs I'm trying to copy aren't available anymore, but I'd hate to have to boot into Windows just to copy some discs since I do pretty much everything else in Linux.

Ubuntu :: Cannot See Some Files Nor Copy Them

May 5, 2010

I am upgrading a QNAP NAS - the unit only had 1 drive to begin with. I have taken this original drive out and hooked it to my ubuntu system and when I boot my machine ubuntu sees the volume that was the volume the qnap shared. and it sees MOST of the files. but when I go to copy stuff it gives errors stating things like 'can't copy data2.cab' - when I go the directory where it claims it can't copy data2.cab there is no data2.cab.

Thing is I am pretty sure there *IS* a data2.cab ... just that the rights or something are such that I cannot see / copy it. is there a simple command I can run on the *entire* drive that will set the ownership of ALL files so that I can see and move them? I just need to copy all these files over to the upgraded nas and then I can reformat this drive.
