View 6 RepliesI just installed 10.10 this morning. No major complaints at this point, but I can't seem to find the Grid plugin for Compiz. Is it missing in 10.10? If not what do I need to do to activate it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm running a dual monitor setup in gnome, with the closed nvidia drivers in twinview mode. most of the times i want to be able to maximize windows to a single monitor (this is the default behavior in 10.04 lucid i believe), but sometimes i want to span a window on both screens. compiz doesn't allow windows to resized past screenborders, and gdevilspie wasn't able to get past this.
After a lot of googling and toying around i came up with the following sollution, i'm posting it here so other people can enjoy it as well (and i'll be able to find it again after my next install).
I made a script to switch between the streched mode and the doublescreen mode to use it, you'll have to stop the autodetection of the outputs in compiz. this option is found in compiz config settings manager under general settings > display settings or though the gconf-editor in /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/detect_outputs
This script switches between the two modes, but you need to edit the resolutions of your monitors! (i have a double 1280x1024 setup)
Code:
My way of using this:
1. use the script to switch to the span mode
2. start photo/video edit software
3. work
4. close the software
5. use the script to switch back
It would appear that the search (find) function has been removed from Konqueror in KDE 4.6. Is that the case? By "search" I mean the ability to search your hard drive, not a web page or document.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI havent used Ubuntu in a while, so I get version 10.04.1 and when I get compiz, I am missing lots of compiz effects. Like fire, 3d windows, changing how many side are on dektop cube. The skybox doesnt rotate with the cube, when it should.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSearching for what appears to be "missing" CompizConfig settings in the CompizConfig Settings Manager. How to change the "Cube" into a "Cylinder" and how to enable floating windows (windows that seem to hover just over the cube when it is rotated. Were these eliminated? They were both available in 9.10.

I just updated to Ubuntu 10.04 and am in love with it. However, when I tried to restore everything I had on my compiz, I realized that a integral part for me was missing. The "maximumize" feature is gone. This is the feature that makes a window fill up all the space it can without interfering with other windows, essentially making it like the windows 7 tiling feature, only better since you can do it with multiple windows and in any way you want. This was in the compiz settings manager in 9.10.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI backed everything up and did a complete re-install of the system to 10.10. I had a widget layer with compiz before I did this and now it is not even an option in the preferences. Am I missing something?
I was running 10.10 before as well and it was there.
Im having a bit of trouble with my title bar disappearing after installing compiz manager and activating the cube, i tried unactivating but the bar still wont appear, im using a hp mini netbook so am not running ati or nvidia graphics but it does have a standard intel graphics chip, how I can resolve this as I need a title bar and if cant get it might have to migrate back to windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got F12 and installed it on a new hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Express 200M video card. I installed CompizConfig setting manager, which did nothing. I then installed Compiz Fusion Icon. This makes compiz work but once I start it all of my windows are missing the title bar. I'm noob and not a programmer but pretty good and figuring things out.In Emerald Theme Manager I can view available themes select them, edit them, etc. There seems to be no way to apply them. Am I missing something or is it just not working?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just got my new version of Debian, and under System>Preferences, near the top of the list, there should be a CompizConfig Settings Manager. But it's not there. I've tried apt-getting compiz, but it says I have the latest version out there. So I don't know what to do next.
View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently I have updated my video drivers and at last was able to run mplayer with vo=gl2 on compiz. The problem is: there is no text in mplayer at all! No OSD, no subtitles, nothing. What I've tried so far to solve this:
1. Rolled back to vo=xv. OSD and subs are there, but video flickers awfully when I'm trying to move mplayer window, change desktop, etc.
2. Played with ccsm "Render text to texture" and "Video" options. No effect.
3. Used vdpau for vo. Hmm, text is there, but mplayer does not respect -subfont-osd-scale and -subfont-text-scale options in config file. Text though is HUGE. Also, "subcp=enca:ru:en" entry in the config file is ignored completely. But, when I launch mplayer with vo=vdpau AND -subfont-osd-scale 2 -subfont-text-scale=2 -subcp enca:ru:en from the console, it is magically working.
4. Activated -ass switch (my subtitles are in srt format). Oh, now I can see subtitles (which are ugly yellow), but NOT the OSD. So, my only solution so far is to create alias for mplayer in bash, which is just temporary, because not all video codecs in mplayer are supporting vdpau.
I have just downloaded this theme: [URL] I tried using emerald to install the theme - I can see the theme there, but I cannot install it. I opened CCSM, and see no option for a theme. I am rather new with linux, so I am more than likely missing something
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed the latest compiz as per leigh's instructions - nice, easy install!I notice that the snow application is missing. That was my favorite, but where has it gone??
How about floating windows above desktop cube? Dodge? In which upon selecting a window, the non-selected windows move around it to move it to the front.I also notice that many window updates are very poor. For example, in the compiz settings manager when I switch tabs, the window does not actually update unless I move it. I click on a tab and it looks just like the previous tab. If I move the mouse around, it will update the wind in blocks under the mouse, but not the whole window.And, it would appear that the standard compiz is still available from my desktop settings in KDE. Could I have failed to remove the original compiz?
Just bought a new computer and installed Lucid 64 bit. On my old PC, I had Lucid 32 bit. There I installed Grid using the instructions on this page: [URL]... But now, on the new computer, i cannot do it. I get the error:
Code:
rumtscho@bradbury:~/tmp/grid$ git-checkout 1281082ba678033e515a19419ca8ffe8641d744b.git-checkout: command not found. I did install everything mentioned in the instruction, including git-core. The git-clone row worked without errors. So why cannot I finish the installation?
I don't care if I get Grid from the git repository or from some other source (I don't understand why it is missing from ccsm in the first place, it got installed automatically under 9.10),
I've read and seen cases were Ubuntu 11.04 users can snap their windows to the left or right by default (such that said window fills half the screen). I, however, cannot do this. Is there something I need to enable.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a newb on linux and I really need some help on how to get my job submitted through sun grid engine. This is the script I need to submit
#!/bin/sh -f
FILE=$1
LGFL=`echo $FILE | sed 's/.$//' | sed 's/.$//'`
echo "Running -> " $FILE
echo "Octave Output -> " $LGFL".log"
nohup /home/guol2/octave-3.2.4/run-octave -q < $FILE >& $LGFL".log" &
echo "Command Started"
It basically stats Octave and run a file I typed after. So if I need to submit it through sun grid engine how would I type it in command line or how should I do it in the sun grid engine control panel. I tried qsub -o <my path> -e <my path> run_octave Myfile.m (Myfile.m is the file I need to run)
i am trying to install sun grid engine on Linux.And i googled a lot but unable to understand from where i should start.

I am doing some Linux kernel programming for my research project. I need to record the timestamp (by using cpuid and rdtsc) when an interrupt handler (top half) is first invoked. Due to the time critical nature of the problem itself, I have to do the timestamping inside the interrupt handler itself (the first operation when the handler is called). However, I understand that tasks that are not so time critical should be deferred to a tasklet function (bottom half) for processing because other interrupts are disabled in a (top-half) interrupt handler. I am currently out of idea on how I can pass the timestamp information that I have obtained in the interrupt handler to the corresponding tasklet function.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a linux application to convert video over a network/grid of computers. I currently have 4 new desktops that are just sitting around, all with the latest build of mint linux installed. My network consists of a 10/100/1000 switch, all desktops have matching NIC's. The videos i have are rather large in size and i would like to be able to have a "server" that will send out bits of the video, with a job to each desktop and have it converted and recompiled back to the server, and if it could convert these videos to a dvd that would be great. the videos i have now range from 8GB-11GB a piece, 33 videos all together, and it would take a single desktop ages to do anything with it. (also this is a nerdy way to do it )
I've done grid computing like this with Vegas Studio and After Effects on Windows but me and M$FT dont get along anymore .
In OpenOffice Writer, dragging on a Ruler item does not snap to a grid.E.g. I want to drag the "Indentation handle" by 1.00cm exactly. But it does not snap to a grid. So when I drag it, I got maybe 1.03cm or 0.98cm.How do I set it so the Ruler conform to a coarse grid of say 0.5cm? Then, I am assured when dragging, it will only land on 0.5cm, 1.0cm, 1.5cm, and so on. And it would not be land on 0.79cm, 1.07cm, 1.43cm, etc.
