OpenSUSE :: Get Function Set_magic_quotes_runtime() To Function On The Newer Versions?

Mar 30, 2011

I'm currently using OpenSuse 11.1 web server. This is bad since 11.1 is no longer supported. the reason why I am using it is because Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() was no longer being used. (so I was told)

That being said, is there a way to get Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() to function on the newer versions of OpenSuSE?

Programming :: Passing Data From Interrupt Handler Function To Tasklet Function?

May 18, 2010

I am doing some Linux kernel programming for my research project. I need to record the timestamp (by using cpuid and rdtsc) when an interrupt handler (top half) is first invoked. Due to the time critical nature of the problem itself, I have to do the timestamping inside the interrupt handler itself (the first operation when the handler is called). However, I understand that tasks that are not so time critical should be deferred to a tasklet function (bottom half) for processing because other interrupts are disabled in a (top-half) interrupt handler. I am currently out of idea on how I can pass the timestamp information that I have obtained in the interrupt handler to the corresponding tasklet function.

General :: Write Script To Use Function And Still Keep Function Active?

Feb 21, 2010

the function terminates if no key is pressed for 10 consecutive seconds. I tried using the -t option as suggested in some forums, but my version of showkey doesn't have the option of changing the timeout. The options I get are:

-h --helpdisplay this help text
-a --asciidisplay the decimal/octal/hex values of the keys
-s --scancodesdisplay only the raw scan-codes
-k --keycodesdisplay only the interpreted keycodes (default).

Is it possible to write a script to use this function and still keep the function active until an interrupt is recieved?

OpenSUSE Install :: Yast Does Not Show Newer Versions

Jan 22, 2010

I just installed openSuse 11.2. I added extra repo's like packman and Mozilla. I gave them priority level 80. The normal openSuse repo's have priority level 99.Still, Yast does not show newer versions from Packman or Mozilla.Yast completely ignores the prioritylevels of the repo's.The only time Yast shows packages from other repo's, is when they are not in the default repo's, like XMMS,w32codec-all, etc.So the repo's are added in the right way,but something strange happens in software management.

When I search for firefox, it shows the old version 3.5.6-1.1.1.When I click on the tab versions, I see that version 3.6.0-1.2 is there from openSuse buildservice. Why is Yast not showing the higher version (available) in the mainscreen? When I select it manually, Yast complains about dependancies because it is not aware of newer versions of mozilla xulrunner.

OpenSUSE :: Where Is SCPM Function In 11.3

Jul 19, 2010

I briefly installed OpenSuSe 11.3 64 bit on my Lenovo laptop last night only to find an app critical to me would not run with Crossover Linux Pro on 11.3, so I reverted back to 11.2

That isn't a problem for me. What I could not find in 11.3 was SCPM. I use my laptop quite a bit and used scpm to set the nfs network up for each different site I logged into. I did not see how to do this with 11.3, but assume I looked in the wrong places. how to do this with 11.3?

OpenSUSE :: Kmail And Address Book Search Function

Jul 28, 2010

When I try to write email, and enter the first few letters of the recipient in the "to:" box, it sometimes but not always autocompletes. i.e., let's say my contact's name is Frederick, his address is e.g. robertsharry@snotmail.com. I enter Fred or fred or fre, a couple of addresses come in to the autocomplete drop-down, but not his. After searching all over over to find his address by other means, I start to write it in manually only to find that he IS in my address book (and also in recent addresses), listed under Freddie. I know that the word Freddie is not in his actual address, but what is the point of having a search function if you have to remember the address yourself? In other words surely the drop down search should show display names (as well as any other fields)?

Ubuntu :: LTS 10.4 Versus Upgrading To Newer Versions

Nov 2, 2010

currently my laptops is running 10.10 I haven't been having any problems so far nor I felt any improvement (functionality wise) over 10.4 . But today I came across a small problem: I went to Cilenerra's website - a Powerful video editing software. I saw that they have a version for 10.4 but not for 10.10 yet. Now I'm unable to get that software.

1. My question is, will I be encountering this type incompatibility issues in the future if I keep getting the latest Ubuntu distros?

2. What if I choose to install 10.4 LTS and stick with it long term? Will I start getting incompatibility issues after a year or so?

3. Will the 10.4 get more and more stable and responsive with newer updates until the new LTS?

EDIT: and if you're wondering, I tried installing the repository of Cinelerra, but the Ubuntu Software Centre kept telling me that there's no version available for my OS.

I have tried uninstalling some applications and have managed to remove some features that I infact needed to keep.just a minor thing like the Gnome interface (gee!). Is there a list available of core applications required to function etc. that would help me to streamline my build?

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 On Eee PC 1005HA - Configure Function Keys Support For Volume Controls And Wireless?

Oct 26, 2009

I put together a step-by-step guide of how I installed openSUSE 11.1 on my ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005HA Netbook. I planned on going back and re-installing using my own guide to check for mistakes, etc. but I never seem to get around to it, so I'll just post what I have and let you guys comment if you run into issues. Side notes: This guide assumes you want to wipe out Windows XP and run only openSUSE. Sorry, I'm a Gates hater.

I still haven't figured out how to configure the function keys support for volume controls and wireless. I'm hoping the "eeepc kernel module" mentioned by malcolmlewis here: Suse on my Asus 1005HA - openSUSE Forums will do the trick.

Fedora :: F13 - Some GTK Function Seems Very Slow

Aug 13, 2010

Yesterday I installed F13 onto a somewhat older machine of mine, to test out some software that I've been developing, and while it works quite well in general, there's a couple of situations where gtk+ seems to be incredibly slow. Most notably, that app lets the user click-and-drag a large map inside a scrolled window; the app updates the scrollbars appropriately. On F13, the click-and-drag starts to lag behind the mouse almost immediately. I had been developing this app on another distro (Gentoo) prior to installing F13 on the machine, and never had this issue then - I've even doublechecked by booting that box onto a Gentoo LiveCD and trying from there, and the speed of click-and-drag is totally fine.

Additionally, and possibly-related: the highlighting which follows the mouse around as you mouseover the map seems to lag behind as well. Otherwise, the system responds quite quickly. Now, the box is an Athlon XP 2100+ (1.73GHz) with an nVidia 7600GS (AGP) - I've tried using all three of nv, nouveau, and the binary nVidia drivers (both from rpmfusion, and compiled from nvidia.com), and I get the same lag using any of those X drivers. I've tried changing the desktop theme (in Preferences->Appearance) to some more "basic" themes, but that hasn't affected anything. I've also tried hopping into a very basic WM outside of Gnome (icewm) but the problem persists there.

Is there some kind of global "smooth scrolling" gtk+ option I could turn off somewhere, perhaps? Run into this kind of weird, selective gtk+ slowness before? I hadn't thought to try before, but I've just verified that I get the same behavior with the "vesa" driver. The system is otherwise snappy, but that click-and-drag is still horribly slow. I just tried it out on an Ubuntu LiveCD, and the speed is also totally fine on there. Just, you know, as one more datapoint. So I went ahead and put together a simple test-case which is removed from the actual application, and it still exhibits the same behavior for me. On Fedora 13 it's quite laggy, on other distros on the same hardware it's totally fine. [URL]
