Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome.When running compiz sphere the bottom half of my desktop wall paper is missing.In cube and cylinder its fine.I also cant work out how to have different wallpaper on my desktops.In Ubuntu can i run a a switcher between KDE and Gnome, back some years ago Mandrake offered this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some software yesterday from the ubuntu rep. This morning my screen has the bottom part of in black there are the KDE docky ,firefox ,terminal & rhythmbox icons ,so is the taskbar..but the wallpaper is cut up ,4cm off. I have noticed that the splash screens res has changed too. It's sharper (smaller). The browser as a consequence is also half lit & having noscript in the bottom without it being visible is a problem. Why has this happened & how can I fix it. The last working config, well that's somewhere else.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am just wondering if anyone else is running into this weird behavior on KDE 4.6. It's on an openSUSE 11.4 installation, 64 bit, on a laptop with 2 monitors. Normally, I have the following desktop/wallpaper/icon combo:Then, when I accidentally click my mouse on the bottom of my panel, I get this very ugly desktop for some reason:Also, when I then right-click in the desktop area to change back the wallpaper, the "Change Desktop Background" option does not work. This only affects the current desktop I am working on, so I end up just moving all my work to a new desktop, but it's awfully annoying. I don't even know where the wallpaper comes from - it's not one of the options in my wallpaper settings

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, I've noticed (as have others) that the Compiz plugin for multiple wallpapers on different desktops is broken. If I wish to move to a new screen with the Expo feature, the graphics behave oddly (i.e. things become blurry or windows look terrible). I found a work-around on Launchpad, but this is only a temporary fix to a long-term solution. Has anyone else here had this problem or figured out a way to solve it?

Also, at Grub there are several old Ubuntu selections from a previous install I did a long time ago; not the next oldest 1 or 2 Kubuntu versions, older Ubuntu versions.
My desktop has been shifted about half way to the right and a "black hole" has been left. I'm not sure how else to describe this, so I will include a picture to try to make things clearer:
I have no idea how I have done this. The Android SDK Emulator is the only thing I have downloaded and played with recently. I've checked monitor settings, changed the background image, adjusted the number of desktops (all desktops are affected), logged out & back in and rebooted. I'm not sure where else to look. Googling hasn't given me any more clues so far.
Everything else is working fine. Windows will open up normally and cover up the "black hole". Although they do leave an after-image, particularly when you move them around - like a 70s video clip!
I saw my computer's desktop did not show the wallpaper correctly and I could actually see INTO my other virtual desktops....its as is compiz decided it did not want to work correctly: You can see into my other virtual desktops, as you can see I have an application open in the desktop to the left of the current one.
I can still maximize windows and it takes up the whole screen as it should, but animations and anything on the left side (dead space side) seem to get stuck...I have to rotate my cube and rotate back before everything works correctly. I know I did get a few new updates around the time this started happening, so hopefully someone out there has experienced something similar.
How can you delete the bottom and the top faces of the Compiz cube?

I cannot get video to appear on my laptop monitor. Moreover, when I unplug my external monitor, I cannot boot into ubuntu. It brings me to low graphics mode and I can't do anything from there because half of the screen is missing.

Like half of my wireless just the mail icon from the indicator applet half the trash can or show desktop or just the power button from the indicator applet session. After I log out and log back in either once or twice that usually fixes it. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with gnome 2.30.2.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIm having a bit of a problem with my wallpaper and flash. The wallpaper was fine up until yesterday, when i changed my window transparency, using the murrine engine. It has dissapeared but everything else is there (see Screenshot[/URL]), and if i attempt to choose any picture, the background goes black, and all icons etc dissapear. The tool bar remains though, and a workaround i have discovered is to run nautilus and log out, and back in. This brings back the grey screen.
As i said, i made my windows transparent using murrine, i had a lttle play around with a new emerald theme while i was there. Im running emerald, compiz, the apearance thing, and gnome colour chooser, so maybe there is a clash? Since the wallpaper dissapeared, im unable to view som flash, i can hear it, but not see it. For instance, ..... will load upnormal but where the video is, its just grey. I can right click etc as you would if it was a video, but just no picture.Any help would be greatly appreciated, my specs are on the screenshot, and if you need any more info ill be glad to post. I also have yuuguu installed if someone would like to help remotly?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use 4 virtual desktops and under Fedora 8 and KDE was able for each to have a unique wallpaper. Since installing Fedora 12 and KDE I can't seem to find a way to get that feature. I can name each virtual desktop but not set individual wallpaper. I've searched the documents for both KDE and Fedora, they say how to set the wallpaper but not for individual desktops.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and so far I have those problems:
1. Before, everything in my system was in English. Now, half is in English, half in another language (PCManFM, some menus etc). I tried setting up Language Support but it changes nothing.
2. Cursor themes work only when hovering the mouse over "X" buttons in the right top corner of the window. As soon as I move the mouse somewhere else, it goes back to default cursor theme, even though I tried selecting 5 different themes - same result.
4. Hibernation don't work anymore. s2disk saves image to disk and then it resumes it but computer stops on text message along the lines of "Resume completed successfully".
5. Changing volume with keyboard shotcuts no longer works.
6. Smplayer does not display picture anymore when playing movies. The view is just empty. I can only hear the soundtrack. It is using XV filter.
7. PCmanFM that used to worked flawlessly, now after going into 1 or 2 subdirectories stops reacting to clicks on file/folder list. Need to open new instance to be able to do anything and this again would become unusable after visiting 1-2 folders.
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. I'm not sure which veraion of linux I have but it was the latest veraon bfor the recent update. I accidentally hit alt ctrl f11 and my comp went inyo the grub menu. I've tried startx and it does nothing. About half the commands I enter do nothing and the other half r not found or are incorrect. The only vommand thw actualley work is reboot. I searched for this and read a grub guide but it did no good.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Lucid Lynx 10.04.3. Sometimes when I boot the computer, my desktop icons are not there. I ended up looking for a solution, and found one:
1. Hit Alt-F2 and run gconf-editor
2. Go to apps/nautilus/preferences and check 'show_desktop'
However, show desktop was already checked. If I unchecked it, and then checked it again, the desktop icons appeared. Weird, but problem solved right? Wrong.
Sometimes when I boot, the desktop icons are gone again. This doesn't happen at every single boot though. When they are gone again though, I just have to go through the process again. Here's where it gets worse.
Also, sometimes at boot, both the top and bottom taskbars/system trays are completely gone, leaving just the desktop. Once again, this doesn't happen at every single boot. I can't really do anything, so I just reboot again and more often then not, things are back to normal. Or the trays are back, but the desktop icons are gone again.
The weird thing about this is it doesn't happen every time I boot the computer. So if there is a problem I just restart and things are usually fine again. However this is very frustrating, and NOT normal.
Also, because the default drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce MX4000 were not sufficient, I had to remove the Nouveau drivers and install nvidia-glx-96, which corresponds to the official NVIDIA Linux driver version 96.43.17. This is the latest driver version listed for my card on the NVIDIA website. I also had to downgrade from 11.04 because apparently the old drivers are not compatible with the new X Server version in 11.04. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not. I'm wondering if maybe i should just get a newer card so I don't have to deal with the older drivers.
