View 2 Replies View RelatedI have official Compiz Fusion running on my Fedora 13 64-bit. I also installed some custom cursor themes and I'm seeing some strange behaviour. When mouse is on my Desktop the custom cursor theme is replaced by the default one. When I launch Firefox, for example, and move cursor inside Firefox window, then my custom cursor is being shown. Also, if I go to resize some window the custom "resize cursor" is being shown, or if system is processing something then custom hourglass cursor is shown again.
Basically while on Desktop or Gnome panels the custom cursor is being replaced by the default Fedora cursor.
This only happens when I choose Compiz as my window manager. With metacity my custom cursor theme is behaving properly. Is it possible to make Compiz Fusion not to mess with my cursor theme? Or maybe it is a Compiz bug?
Ok, this indeed is a bug, but I'm not sure if it's a Gnome or Compiz bug. Here is a fix (a bad one for now) which might save someone time. The credit for this does not belong to me, I got it form this link. So, here it goes:
1. Install gconf-editor by running "yum -y install gconf-editor"
2. Change your windows manager to metacity temporarily
3. Change your cursor theme to the desired custom one
4. Run gconf-editor and go to "desktop->gnome->peripherals->mouse" and remember the value of "cursor theme" option this gconf-editor branch.
5. Create directory with name "default" in "/home/yourUserName/.icons/" directory.
6. Inside newly created "default" directory create file with name "index.theme" with the following content:

Name = <anything you want>
Comment = <anything you want>
Example = <anything you want>
Inherits = <THEME NAME YOU FOUND IN STEP 4>
7. After saving the file re-enable Compiz as your window manager and logout/login to your account. The problem with this fix is that you will have to modify "index.theme" file every time you will want to change your icon theme, but it works nevertheless.
I just got F12 and installed it on a new hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Express 200M video card. I installed CompizConfig setting manager, which did nothing. I then installed Compiz Fusion Icon. This makes compiz work but once I start it all of my windows are missing the title bar. I'm noob and not a programmer but pretty good and figuring things out.In Emerald Theme Manager I can view available themes select them, edit them, etc. There seems to be no way to apply them. Am I missing something or is it just not working?

How about floating windows above desktop cube? Dodge? In which upon selecting a window, the non-selected windows move around it to move it to the front.I also notice that many window updates are very poor. For example, in the compiz settings manager when I switch tabs, the window does not actually update unless I move it. I click on a tab and it looks just like the previous tab. If I move the mouse around, it will update the wind in blocks under the mouse, but not the whole window.And, it would appear that the standard compiz is still available from my desktop settings in KDE. Could I have failed to remove the original compiz?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to change my mouse cursor theme through gnome-appearance-properties, my cursor only changes to the selected themes in only certain situations, but is the default most of the time. Due to some vision problems, it is hard for me to see the default cursor, and would prefer a size 24 DMZ-Black theme for the pointer.
I've been searching for some solutions, and it looks like Compiz has taken over some duties regarding the mouse cursor and how it looks. That's fine, I love Compiz, I use the screen magnifier and zoom all the time - so turning Compiz off is not an option.
Most solutions I've found call for changing the mouse theme in compiz. However, most of those posts are at least 2 years old, and my current version of ccsm doesn't have an option to change the mouse theme. I found 'cursor_size' and 'cursor_theme' in gconf-editor (apps > compiz > general > allscreens > options), but making those keys match those found in (desktop > gnome > peripherals > mouse) has brought me no success.

I have an asus pc, and its network hardware is not recognized by debian, the drivers are not even in the list provided during the installation process. I managed to download them from another pc, but if i try to make them and install them, i'm stucked because Make is not installed on debian (nor is sudo).So i need a connection to install the drivers that provide me a co0nnections..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 10 on a Dell M6400. It has 2 disks in a mirror raid. It came with Windows Vista, but I am not doing a dual boot setup. I have formattet the disk with this installation.I downloaded http://ftp.crc.dk/fedora/linux/relea...0-i386-DVD.iso, burned the DVD and did the install check. It passed the check.The installation went fine, but after the first reboot I am getting "Missing operating system".
I have no idea where to begin... Could the installation media be faulty after all? I there anyway to get passed this, without reinstalling? I know this may have something to do with the boot loader, but I don't know anything about it.I have installed Fedora 4,5,6,8,9 and this never happened to me before, but then again, I did all these installations on my old Dell Latitude.... Could this have something to do with the new hardware?
First off, I have spent several hours searching this and other forums looking for an answer to this, and have tried several things, none of which have fixed this issue. Here is what I'm seeing:I performed a new install of FC12 on a Thinkpad R40, 512Mb RAM, with a 40Gb HDD, 38Gb useable, from a live CD. That leaves a little over 9Gb free for expansion. All went well with the install, but the post-boot upgrade would not complete due to an error with the abrt files. I found a thread discussing this and used the suggested method of performing the updates from a shell, which worked fine. There were LOTS of installations, updates, and replacements, and finally the shell returned "Complete!". After a reboot I was going through the Fedora_12_ User_ Guide.pdf and noticed many items missing from the System Menu as described in section 3.1.1.3 "The System menu". Another thread seemed to address a similar issue with su - then yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment", which I did. It updated over 870 items, then completed with no errors. At this point I logged out and back in, no change, and then tried a reboot, which also did not change anything. Finally, I'm appealing to the community.

So i did some searching and the only thing i could find was to run "emerald --replace" in the terminal, and it worked, but if I exit out of the terminal, it reverts back to the old theme.How do I keep emerald's theme, even after I exit the terminal?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI updated my laptop from F12 to F14 via preupgrade. After doing so, the standard mouse theme was active. So I installed the one I like again and set it as mouse theme. For some reason it is now a mixture of the one I installed and the standard theme. If I open a place in nautilus the displayed symbol is the right one while waiting, if I open something in control center I get the standard icon. Same problem with drag and drop, I always get the hand from the standard theme. I also tried the former standard theme Bluecurve and it was the same problem.Can anyone tell me what goes wrong with the theme? What has changed in F14, that the older themes won't work?

Then i go to System--->Preferences-->Appearance--->Theme and click on Install & find the theme i downloaded. Then it says install theme correct. However two seconds after that it says"theme will not look as intended because the required icon theme "Human" isn't installed." View 5 Replies View Relatedyesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum).
But nothing happend so far?!
I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help!Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using 10.04 for a few months here and installed the truglass 0.5 theme for quite some time. I've been putting up with one downfall of it, which is on certain windows the min/max/close buttons do not show. I can hover over where they should be to actually use them, but they are not visible on all windows. They always come up with firefox, unless I hit a pop-up and a new window comes up. Any nautilus window doesn't have them unless focus on that window is lost. Any ideas on how I can solve this? See attached screenshot.

Any time I try to install a theme I get an error that it's "appears to not be a valid theme" When I first click the install button and navigate to my theme packages, I don't see the [dot] theme file, which is a red-flag.
