I like to set firefox to ask me every time what to do when downloading a file. This works well if I want to save to disk, but if I want to use an application I don't get a dropdown with applications to choose, but a browse button which requires the application to be typed every time. To make it a bit clearer, if I have clicked on a pdf file I get this: [URL]. How do I get okular listed in a dropdown instead of the browse button?
Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0 When I click on some audio stream links in my web browser (Mozilla Firefox), the stream comes in a URL ending in .pls, usually listen.pls. As I want mplayer to play it and not the default player, I intend to make the first the default one. In Firefox (2.0.0.4) I can do Edit>Preferences>Content>File Types>Manage and change the actions associated with each file type. However, if the type is, say, PDF, I can can only change the action if a PDF file has anytime been downloaded. So, the same goes for a PLS file.
You have an example of the kind of link I talk about here: [URL] In the case of a radio broadcast audio stream, I am not downloading it, I think. At least, the Download window does not open. The Download window not having open itsef, the PLS type does not appear in the window Edit>...>File Types>Manage leads to. And so, I cannot change the action. The action would be 'Open them with this application': mplayer.
In Firefox, when I try to download a PDF document from a particular website, I get the message, "Unable to open document. File type unknown (application/octet-stream is not supported.)" Yet the same PDF document loads fine in Konquerer. Am I missing a plug-in or something?
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and Firefox 3.6.11, which has an entry for PDF document under Edit > Preferences on the Applications tab that says, "Use MozPlugger 1.13.3...".
kernel 2.6.21.5, GNU/Linux (slackware 12.0). I had the bad idea of installing Adobe in my linux box and, as a result, even when I click on a .flac file the reader opens. What is bad about this is that Xfce help system is very poor. Menu bar>Help uses internet to open the site page, where there is very little help indeed. Right clicking, for example, an HTML file, I can choose the application to open it with and I'll be asked if I want this to be the default action. But for every file type I should be making this work! Perhaps deleting a hidden file in ~/ where xfce registered the associations. I do not want to uninstall Adobe as it is really fast scanning docs.
In my system around 73gb(pc-desktop) i have,1 primary partition(windows)-25gb, 1-extended partition(remaining gb) 3 logical partitions were there in (under) extended partition in one of the logical partition is d:drive. in my hard disk d: drive is -/dev/sda5
previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal
After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data
By doing that
1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.
2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.
Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)
Installed Slackware 13.37 over the weekend. Good so far. Problem with Firefox though as it does not have a plugins directory where we can move libflashplayer.so into like in previous versions. Where do we put it to file Firefox (and Seamonkey) to play flash.
When I go to type in a response to a forum post (in the box you are reading this in if you reply) I lose keyboard input. Nothing happens when I type. If I go up to the upper right hand corner of the message box and Switch Editor Mode then I get the keyboard back.
I would like to set my FireFox up so that when I type something in the address bar that is not a url, it will automatically do a google search. I have done this before, but that was a while ago and I can't remember what settings to change in about:config.Currently, when I type something that is not a url, it performs a search and then automatically opens the first web page that it finds, like a "I'm feeling lucky" search. I just want to see a google list.
There is a site that I visit so often that it's domain ends with (.org) and when I go there I write the name and press (ctrl+shift+enter) but sometimes I press (ctrl+enter) and it takes me to a site that I hate so is there a way to make firefox when I write [url] take me to [url].
The previous version of one of my websites was static and so the URLs looked like this: [url]
A few months ago I re-did the site to be completely dynamic. There are no individual pages for product reviews, just one which pulls the right data from a database. So now, my URLs look like this: [url]
Some fellow ex-googler who specialize in SEO told me that the previous URL scheme was better for search engines because it had the product name. Of course, I have set up redirects from the old naming scheme to the new one but what I would like to do is have 'review.php' handle the request for 'review_XXXX_YYYY.php' without actually doing a redirect... and do this for past and future products. I don't want to have to actually create all these 'review_XXXX_YYYY.php', there would be hundreds, just make it seem like they exist to visitors.
I'm new to Ubuntu . With windows when you install a app it creates a folder in the drive:c under programs : Where is the install folder on Ubuntu ? AND ' with windows ' there is an exe file ' what type of file is like the exe file''' to run ? or the path to run the app ?
I am writting a script to allow uploading of certain files. I want to limit the files by their filename and mime type, and by making sure the two match up.The first thing I need to do is make sure I've got all the mime types I need added. I have never done this before, but I understand that 'file' (which is what PHP's mime-type finding is based off of) uses magic databases that tell at which point in the file should have signatures of the filetype.
My trouble started when I was unable to determine the filetype of any of my video files. Currently, I have some .MOV and .MP4 files that I am using to test.
I want to be able to play a video file on my pda(Tungsten T5) but from memory the only video file i have seen playable on it was the asf file that is used when it starts up/reboots. I tried other file types in the past that were suggested in maybe a manual or forum or something but they never worked/played. I think it is because of the player installed and i tried installing another player but from memory that didn't install properly or just did not play anything. So if anyone knows of a way to convert files maybe using winff or mencoder i would love that info. I have been googling and have found nothing specific to what i am asking. I do not see anything in winff to convert to asf and cannot remember ever using mencoder.
I have placed the restart-ssh script in /usr/local/nagios/libexec/eventhandler but its not working on seeing the event log the following information is obtained
Though i have checked the script manually by the following command
It works fine with both of the above mentioned commands
I don't know why it is not able to restart ssh when nagios is calling it as event handler
The service definition for ssh in localhost.cfg is as follow:
I had serveral custom url-handlers setup using gconftool-2 in my old Ubuntu 10.10 setup, but now after reinstalling and updating to Ubuntu 11.04 I can't get a single one to work with Chrome (11.0.696.57) nor other browsers like Midori.
The only solution was to switch to Firefox and setup them manually using network.protocol-handler*
It seems (on the surface) that Chrome insists on opening the links with xdg-open (and if I remember correctly in Ubuntu 10.10 Chrome said it opened the links using the apps set in gconf), but xdg-open only supports the most common http* and ftp* does it not? - Just learned that xdg-open is the default handler for all urls.
I've tried everything, including searching through Chrome's config files, reinstalling Chrome, and tested changing the paths to my apps - but without any luck.
Note that I'm talking about links in Google Chrome, Firefox on the other hand doesn't even check the url-handlers so I had to set them up manually using about:config > network.protocol-handler*
So they work in Firefox when added, but in no other browsers.
Google Chrome opens the links with xdg-open [url] as depicted in the attacheds screenshot, but this throws in error, found in .xsession-errors:
Code: gvfs-open: svtrip://example.com/: error opening location: The specified location is not supported
I am currently working on "Creation of Postmortem data logger in Linux on Intel architecture. Its nothing but core utility creation. how the signal handlers for various signals(SIGSEGV,SIGABRT,SIGFPE etc) which produce core dump upon crashing an application internally implemented in Linux kernel. I need to re-write these signal handlers with my own user specific needs and rebuild the kernel. It makes my kernel producing the core file (upon crashing an application) with user specific needs like showing registers, stackdump and backtrace etc.
I would need a lead on how to shutdown several virtual machine on our ESX server. We put in place a UPS and now we want to implement a automatic shutdown of the VMs (in a certain order) when our UPS battery goes under the threshold. I do monitor already the battery state. So I just need to put in place the eventhandler. How to proceed?
I just installed Slackware 13.1 x86 on a new laptop (you probably remember me from my audio post). I am having one other issue. My root file system is formatted as EXT4. When my computer boots, it tries to mount it as EXT3 then EXT2, fails both types and then tries EXT4. Here are the messages.
Code: EXT3-fs (sda2): error: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (240) EXT2-fs (sda2): error: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (240) EXT4-fs (sda2): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode So, eventually / is mounted correctly, but I think this is slowing down my boot time. Does anyone know how to fix this.
I installed MS office 2003 via wine on Slackware 13. I need to know how to associate files with the right Office (msword, msexcel, msppt) program. I made launcher scripts that can launches office files from the CL, but the user on this computer will want to be able to just double click a file in dolphin and have the right office program come up.For some reason all office files show up as x-ole-storage instead of application/msword or something similar. So, even if I tell Excel to associate with that file, it will do it for Word and PowerPoint files as well.
.ppt, .doc, and .xls extensions were configured via the KDE file associations panel, but this did not help. I played around with the raw files under ~/.local/share, but I did not find the solution. The version of WINE is 1.1.24 (built from SBo SlackBuild).
I've just synchronized my slackware64-current mirror, iso burned, booting, starting cfdisk, creating a partition, and I'm not able to set the partition type to `Linux Raid Autodetect` (FD) or any other, that needs 2 characters to be entered in cfdisk -> Type.Cfdisk alows only one character to be entered ("F" or any other).
