View 4 RepliesThis game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDo you know any game engines or game studios that can make adventure games, for instance in the style of Myst (1st person) or in the style of old Sierra games (3rd person), like King's Quest, Space Quest, etc.?I've seen AGI Studio, but it is too old, I'd like to use more modern graphics (although there is no need for 3D).
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhy is it that some software isn't in the Ubuntu Software Center's installed software list and must be searched for. Is the presented list a comprehensive list for applications only, or does it categorize software some other way. I am a bit uncertain about this since both image magick (a command line "application) and xvfb needed to be searched for in order to appear. Is their a way to get a complete listing of different types (and if necessary all) of the software installed on your system.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu 10.04 and PostgreSQL 8.4.7. I need to find out where PostgreSQL is located so I can run commands. I successfully installed PostgreSQL without changing any of the defaults. Matthew & Stones' Beginning Databases with PosgreSQL From Novice to Professional, as well as the PostgreSQL documentation, indicates the standard location is /usr/local/pgsql/bin/ but it's not there; it's somewhere else (ps -el | grep post confirms it IS running and psql is able to do du to display the list of users and l to display the list of databases).
But when I tried to create a new user by running /usr/local/pgsql/bin/createuser the command was not found. I tried to locate the installation by running pg_config --bindir but it said pg_config was not installed. I downloaded pg_config and its dependencies and tried to install them with the package installer, but it wouldn't go because something is wrong with the libkrb5-3 and libkrb5support0 packages - they won't install and the package installer just zips through without reporting missing dependencies or anything. The MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 checksums all match, but they just won't install. I then tried the libk5crypto3 package just to make sure something wasn't wrong on my end - it installed fine. So I searched the PostgreSQL FAQ and found out how to get the version without pg_config by doing a SELECT version(); query. here appears to be no corresponding SELECT bindir(); query. A plain ordinary file search for pgsql, postgresql, etc.
I have installed a package on Centos 5.5, and need to find out the repository it came from, so I can enable the source rpms for that particular repository, and download the source, and rebuild the package. Is there some way using yum or rpm to find out which repo the installed package came from? I know Smart PM shows this info, but it has been hanging on Centos 5.5, for some strange reason, so that's not really an option for now.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow to find the package that was installed recently or at the last? Is there any command to find this? in RHEL 5.0
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed a package using the System -> Administration -> Add/Remove s/w tool.
How can I find information about what files it has installed and where? I was expecting to get some header files from this package but cannot find them in the normal places like /usr/include etc.
I have a disk of all the rpms (just the rpms) of RH Ent. 5.1. I needed to intall some packages from it.
For that I created a local repository.
Following is what I did:
1. mounted DVD in /media
2. Issued createrepo on /media (Now the packages are in /media/mycdrom/RHE5Rpms and the repodata is in /media)
3. I added the following in the /etc/yum.conf
Now when I try to install, for example, qt4-devel, it can resolve the dependencies for one level. For example, it resolves libpng-devel (which is needed by qt4-devel), but it fails to resolve libpng (which is needed by libpng-devel). But libpng package is both available in the DVD and is already installed on the machine.
Following is the tail of error messages I get after issuing the command 'yum install qt4-devel'
All the above packages are available through the DVD and already installed on the machine.
Can anybody tell me if there is a game similar to WOW for ubuntu 9.10? if there is I would like the source code so i can download it from the terminal.

I am sure it's because it's a DVD rom, but how can I give myself "root" permissions, or set up a root password so I can permit myself to install things?

i would like to run install disks via WINE, but there is a problem. the CD's are by default not executable, and the cd is read only, so when I try to change that I cant.
I'v installed Counter-Strike through Wine, now I want to add a .sh that opens it at Applications -> Games.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm going to install Ubuntu 64bit, currently run 10.10 32bit. I'm thinking about going back to 10.04 in combination with a previous version of wine(maybe 1.2?) to get some games working again.
Do any of you know if games are still working well with this combination? I'm looking to play WoW at some point, Oblivion + Expansion/Mods, any FPS available.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI really just need to know what stupid thing I'm doing to cause this. I've extracted the files, and when I try to run the setup program, if I click on it from a file browser window in GNOME it just doesn't do anything. If I attempt to run the file (it's a .sh file, if that makes any difference) in the terminal, it says "command not found", even though I'm in the directory, and can clearly see the file when running ls.
If I try to run it in the file browser, and click on "Run in Terminal" then the terminal pops up, and goes away instantly.
When I upgraded to 11.04 games like Postal 2 and Lugaru do not play right anymore. I find them very choppy and the game sometimes just stops working. Now when I was using 10.10 the games were working fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently set-up a MUSH (Multi-User Shared Hallucination), which is kind of like a MUD (Multi-User Domain/Dungeon/etc.). Basically, it is a text-based RPG for roleplaying games the old fashioned way from back before the dawn of GUI/graphic user interface. I would like to embed an application into my website to allow players (who don't want to download and run a separate mud/mush client program) to connect directly from the website. I came across this: [URL]
Though, I have not been able to set it up to work with my site. Perhaps because that is a MUD app and not a MUSH app? I don't know if that is relevant. It is basically a telnet type of connection, and that uses Java, though I'm not sure what else there is to it. Does anybody have any input on how I can get the text-based RPG accessible from a website?
i've installed 'ghost recon' which i downloaded via torrent. i open the executables with right-click and clicking executable, i guess this just used WINE automatically. it seems to download fine. i downloaded into a folder i called 'c:desktop' which i thought would make the files end up on my regular desktop, but i can't find them anywhere. when i run autorun.exe from the cd it opens, but when i click 'play ghost recon' is gives a dialog box saying it can locate the cd.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling to find a way to play a game under Wine without using the CD, so looked if it was possible in Wine. I came across this commmand: Code: sudo mount /home/joseph/BIONICLE.iso -o loop /media/cdrom0/ which I tried. It didn't work, and gave me an error about how there was no "cdrom0". I assumed that it was created whenever something is mounted. Out of desperation, I removed cdrom0 from the command, and then things got funky. Doing so replaced all the contents of /media (there were no files, only useless floppy folders, since I have no floppy drive) with the contents of the ISO file. I tried using sudo to delete the files, but it said that it was a read-only filesystem. I tried changing the permissions using sudo chmod +w /media, but it didn't work, and complained about being read-only. I am unable to mount anything now! Can someone help, both with deleting /media, and possibly with running Wine games without the CD?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI know exactly what the problem is here, I just need either ATI or Ubuntu to fix it! Default Drivers per Ubuntu="2:8.780-0ubuntu2"(Maverick) Problem with these drivers: Every game in wine does not look correctly..... After installing 10.9 catalyst(maverick) The games work fine, however when I restart my computer with these drivers installed BAM!! Dead X.....
So the problem here is indeed the drivers, the ones suggested by Ubuntu install and work, but the games screw up.....the 10.9 works with the games but not Ubuntu as you can see no matter which way I go I'm screwed.....basically I'm just keeping 10.9 installed without Rebooting so I can do everything with Wine....
And yes i've tried everything you can think of with aticonfig(tls=1,tls=0,--initial,ForceXAA,blah blah blah) you think it, i've tried it. The problem simply is that Ubuntu 10.10 does not have any working ATI drivers for Wine at this time. So I have to wait and HOPE that ATI's 10.10 drivers that are comming out will fix this issue. I have tried the RC1 beta 10.10 drivers and the issue still persists, not a good sign. The beta drivers did not fix the issue i really hope ATI plans on fixing this problem in 10.10!
EDIT: Fixed some typo's! EDIT2: Ok problem is fixed with the newest drivers, however I am forced to disable GLSL in order for games to work why was this able to be enabled with ATI 10.9 but not now? Hopefully this is fixed so it can be re-enabled....
I want to make... Or at least try to make a game for ubuntu.. Is there any software that will suit me?
